what's the dream aspect about?

The discussion of whether creativity is real can take untold amount of time, but we have to acknowledge that there's nothing 100% new - with no plausibly extant precedents - under the sun. The live-action Lion King rips off the animated Lion King rips off Hamlet rips off other tales of royal revenge spurred by filial piety. Each seemingly novel idea is woven from strands that already exist.

That doesn't mean these rip-offs are conscious. A lot of inspiration is recondite, unconscious, subliminal, extracted from deep within memory, like dreams are. Human dreams are a synthesis of memories, forgotten faces, other minute implications which are only preserved as components or references for the phantasmal replicas.

A lot of things about the dreamselves projected into the lunar kingdoms echoes that imagery. They replicate the ideal body you'd rather have (your dream body, if you'd allow me), they can spontaneously manifest minor powers to assist you in doing whatever you've been planning to because it just makes sense. I'm not sure why they can fly - utility?

The currents of Dream govern some of these subconscious channels - specifically, those of "disparate" nature. What differentiates an object from others? Nature? Applicability? History? What about a person? What makes someone themselves and not someone else? What makes an act itself and not just a copy of some other act? Even if it was refracted, distorted, remixed, altered a thousand times, what remains of the original? What about the lunar kingdoms - replicas of societies, meant to eventually seed the host planet? What about their citizens, each meant to serve a specific role, endlessly remixed and revowen to add a touch of customization, living in procedurally generated cities?

Dreambound, to misquote KR, tend to walk a fine line between fixation and distraction. It's common knowledge that to be effective, Dreambound need to innovate, constantly - to steer clear from fixation on a singular idea, which leads to the work devolving into simple repetition, and from the inability to focus on things, which leads to nothing getting done at all. But one shouldn't fixate on the idea of uniqueness itself, either, because fixations restrict unnecessarily. You need to learn to find the snares and avoid them, especially if you are the one putting them around the place to restrict yourself. Question everything, but remember that blind skepticism is also able to become a snare.

Happy Valentine's Day!

To celebrate, it's time for the Familiar Café event!

A smaller experience, this event is focused on sharing sweet treats between your whyzzards and familiars.

There are only two parts for this event, the first being the café attendant design contest! To enter, you will design a basic whyzzard to work in the café. If your design is selected, it becomes an official whyzzard for you to own! There will be four Café attendants.

The second part of this event is a raffle! To enter, depict your whyzzard having a good time in the Familiar Café. You can draw, write, or even create music depicting their time. Make sure your entries are either posted on tumblr in the #Familiar Cafe tag, or on Toyhouse in the Familiar Cafe forum. The winners of this raffle will be voted for by other participants!

The prizes are:

  1. A Whyzzard license, allowing them to make as many whyzzards as they would like for a month!
  2. One Basic whyzzard license, allowing them to make as many basic whyzzards for the same allotted time!
  3. One MYO Whyzzard ticket + Potion of their choice, allowing them to create their own whyzzard!

Have fun everyone!
