hi Terra,

apologies if you’ve answered this before, i tried to do a search on your blog but didn’t find anything. what are some of your favorite books by feminists or ones that were integral to your understanding of feminism? i’m really interested in getting into real feminist theory & analysis but i don’t want to waste too much time reading things that aren’t of quality. could you please point me in the direction of where to look?

thank you so much!

It's so scary when I'm eating lunch on the quad and the alabaster girlies are just laying out in a bikini for at least a whole hour. like I have a shawl and I'm wearing 4 layers of sunscreens and I have SPF 3 melanin built in. but I'm STILL limiting direct sun to skin contact.......

the fact that people know I lived in LA for 24 years and think "clearly she's never eaten ethnic food before" is mind boggling. now I just want to know what the hell do you think black angelenos eat, white people food or something lmao???

Avatar

also I simply don't care about what people think about my food lol! kids bullied me for eating wakame soup and curry and soft cold tofu with soy sauce and tofurky on spelt and fried plantains and bean tacos every day and laughed and made loud gagging noise, even my best friends but I literally did not care bc those were/are slammin meals to me. And their peanut butter on white bread and lukewarm sliced baloney lunchables were disgusting to me

the foods I am talking about that expanded my palette (and decreased it) are largely foods from Asia because they are things my immigrant chef gf who grew up in poverty in a third world country in Asia has cooked for me or has taken me to eat or her mother/aunt made for us over the past year and a half of my life. in LA I ate mostly mexican and asian foods made by poor immigrants at family restaurants, bc that is what my palette is adjusted to. I only just got into fine dining because it is an important part of my life now. I have not been vegan for years, I regularly eat meat dishes, I have been working class since 2008, I haven't even been to LA in 5 years but there's more various cultural density there than anywhere in the world 😭 whyyy are you assuming you know so much about me and my life from like, the last 5 posts on this blog???

there are Chinese dishes I actually eat every week of my life, like szechuan tofu eggplant is my #2 fave food, one of the best places I've ever eaten was a Chinese hole in the wall restaurant that I kept supporting during the pandemic until it closed. But China also purposefully makes a section of cuisines to challenge base human disgust, and my gf needs to always try new foods to work with as a food artist. These 3 ingredients aren't restricted to china but they did make me and my gf squeamish (we politely took a few bites and packed it up and went home lol) so I'm sorry if these are your favorite cultural meals but it's also simply gross to some.

Like as a rule sometimes people reject your favorite things and you just have to be ok with that lol

I didn't think OTHER people find this disgusting, it's just a hard eat for me

β€œChicken nugget diet” anon here. Yeah. no, I live in China. That’s not what the food is like. We joke about β€œdark cuisine” and β€œwhite people meals” here. It’s not gross except for one or two dishes that I can’t bring myself to eat lol. The american-centric xenophobic-ness is showing.

Anon this is hilarious you are literally agreeing with me but trying to play up my ignorance based on a jokey post to get mad instead when you literally know exactly what I mean because you're repeating my point in this very ask but adding the denigration

my advice as a 30 woman to every 20 woman is always just don't drink, men are a waste, be obsessed with sunscreen, and eat 1 baguette per day

This is so funny. why do evil rappers just default to insulting feet sizes now

If you try 100 dishes from each culture you're going to have some hits and new faves and learn some recipes but you're also going to discover the grossest things you've ever eaten πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ tis the nature of food

before I met my gf I used to have a really narrow view that all food is good but she's gotten me to eat snails, slugs, testicle, head cheese, fish eggs, intestines, tongues, differing animal feets, haggis, bugs/worms, so many varieties of goops and gunks. so I've actually discovered how to politely eat things I hate in fine dining instead of blanketing all food as great lol. you can't exclusively eat the best things from a culture and judge it for that that's literally MORE xenophobic

sure but you called it β€˜universally gross food’ when Dark Cuisine is like, a very small subsection of chinese cuisine. you just seem xenophobic!

Ok well I'm literally a giant xenophile so idk why you read it that way lol? china purposefully makes a lot of gross out internet culture dishes even though it's mostly good obviously
