Just a young girl trying to find her way in the world.

“I’m sorry...I know...I know you would probably rather eat in the sea...” she sighed. “But my father would be very angry if I let you go...” she bit her lip. “Besides...I can take good care of your here! I mean...you get free food, a place to stay, and you can always talk to me or sing for me if you’d like...but you...you don’t have to” she said, wondering if maybe appearing less hopeful for it would increase her chances of finally getting a song.

“Yes...we...we proved that your parents intended to hurt you” she whispered. “You never have to go back to them again”

“I’m also happy to call Tom, ‘a hero’. I look at this young man and think, 'Yes, if he doesn’t fit the bill, I don’t know who does’.
In this country (England), we generally don’t do heroes, unlike in America, where every cheeseburger commercial has one in it. But I’ve seen Tom up close for long days in stressful situations and he carries himself with such grace and generosity. He’s a marvel to watch.”

Lexi pulled his hand to her heart “You were...why do you think the bullet missed my heart?” she whispered softly.

Lexi’s eyes filled with tears and she shook her head “No! No Loki...please...please don’t leave me!” she whimpered, trying to run to him and hoping he could hold her once more.

Percy wasn’t sure how long he had been there, trapped in a dark room in a small little pool filled with just enough water to keep his tail. He knew better than to try to get out, since last time he had laid on the floor weakened and unsure of how to walk on legs.

Usually he just laid back and closed his eyes trying to imagine he was home. Likely the entire ocean was searching for him but they never would look for him on land… much less actually find him if they tried.

It wasn’t too bad, at least the girl fed him but he missed being able to properly swim and sometimes the water got way too cold.

He was laying back when the door opened. Percy’s heart skipped and he looked over at the girl, not saying a word.

Lexi smiled when she saw Percy laying in the water. She loved Percy, he was like a pet to her. She had thought at first that maybe he would be more like her but her father told her over and over that he was too stupid to speak to her and that she must treat him as a pet. Lexi didn’t question her father, she knew better, instead she did as he said and fed Percy twice a day while trying to teach him tricks. Her father said that some mermen could sing and that Lexi should try often to coax Percy into singing but never into talking.

Today Lexi held a tray full of seaweed and some fresh fish. That was what her father told her to feed Percy. “Hello!” She said happily. She didn’t know his name but she often asked him if she could call him Alex. She liked the name because it sounded so much like hers and since Percy didn’t talk Lexi just assumed he was okay with the name.

Lexi shook her head but she couldn’t deny that she had been pretty hurt. “I…I’ll be alright…” she whispered. “I am…I am just tired…and…recovering…”

Lexi felt instantly guilty. “I was testifying...in your trial...a man...in the crowd...he...he shot me...” she whispered looking away from him.
