I’m posting this a day early cause I’m gonna be on a flight soon and I’ll probably be too tired to post this anyway, Enjoy! Leave some feedback in the comments and maybe reblog??
Huge thanks to @forever-stuck-in–neverland for helping me out with this whole thing! I owe u so much ❤️

You roll out of bed it was probably afternoon already. You check if there was anything to eat but remember that you hadn’t gone grocery shopping for a while now. Bills were stacked high on your counter.

You haven’t been doing well. You were struggling with your career and have been trying to find jobs that could help you at least pay a few of your bills. You sigh and rub your hands on your face

You take a shower and got dressed and grabbed your portfolio and your resume for another day of job hunting.

You go to different places but to no avail. It just wasn’t hiring season, no opportunities were coming your way and your bank account was suffering the consequences, soon you will be too.

Life was fine a few months ago. You had a well paying job, good enough keep you in your apartment and get yourself food. Then the company shut down and took you down with it.

You were having the worst luck known to man as of late and you were barely making ends meet and you were too prideful to accept your rich parents’ help. You wanted to prove something to yourself but right now you pride was wearing thin.

You hear your phone ring and you see Harrison calling

“Hey, Haz” You greet him

“y/n! Where are you? We’re back in town! Come meet us!” Haz said enthusiastically

Haz and Tom had been traveling to so many places that you get envious sometimes but you understood that it wasn’t as fun as it was made out to be. They’ve been gone for a couple of months with filming for the Spider-Man movie and were going away after a few weeks for the press tour

you hum in confirmation “Sure, where should we meet?” you say

“How about that café we used to love?” Haz suggested

“Okay meet you there in 30 minutes."You agree and dropped the call.

You head to the café Haz was talking about. When you got there the two boys were already seated in a booth you come up to them with a smile and Haz stands up to hug you. You run into Haz’s arms and squeal when he spins you.

"Welcome back!” Both of you laugh and he stes you down back on your feet

“Oh darling, we’ve missed you!” Haz says holding your arms at your side. You roll your eyes fondly

“I’m sure the sights made up for it” You say laughing and the two of you slip in the booth

“Hi Tommy” You say teasingly at the boy in front of you

“Hello to you too, love” He says giving you a look

“Missed me?” You tease him more

“Never” Tom says with a small laugh.

“How have you been, y/n? Where’d you came from all dressed up?” Harrison asks

“I’ve been better, I’m currently job hunting” You say shortly

“You still haven’t got a job?” Haz says surprised

“Yeah, there’s little to no jobs available right now.” You sigh. “But it’s fine nothing to worry about” You reassured them.

Of course it’s something to worry about. You were on the verge of getting evicted and was living off of your savings. Nothing was going right and you had a feeling that they knew that you were in a bad situation but chose not to say anything when you’ve talked for the past few months

“Why don’t you talk to your parents?” Haz asks suggestively

“You know why haz” You answer with a pointed look.

“Yeah cause you have too much pride in your pinkie than anyone else has in their whole body” Tom butts in

“You know what, Stanley fuck yo-” you say irritated before being cut off

“Oh darling, you wish you could” Tom fires quickly not letting you finish

You were about to say something else when Tom’s phone started ringing in his pocket and when he saw who was calling an irritated look appear on his face before answering it

“Yeah. Yes I know. I’ll take care of it. Yes yes. Yeah okay. Yeah. Thanks. Ok” Tom says impatiently, pauses every few seconds before he ended the call

“Sony still bugging you about the assistant thing?” Harrison asks a little worried

“Yeah” Tom says shortly his mood clearly shifted

The two of them fell silent and you didn’t really know what to say then Harrison lit up

“Hey! Why don’t you hire, y/n?!” Harrison says as if he had a breakthrough.

“Hire for what?” You asked confused

“No, Haz. That’s gonna end in disaster” Tom says flatly completely ignoring you

“Hello? Hire me for what?” You try again.

“C'mon Mate, it’s perfect for the both of you!” Haz says, ignoring you again

“Perfect for what?” you butt in

“No, Haz it’s just gonna be a bigger headache for me and her!” Tom exclaims

“uhm hello? Did I suddenly became invisible or something?” You wave your hand between the two of them

“Tom! It’s the best option for the both of you.” Haz says

“Guys” you say trying to get their attention

“No it isn’t, Haz” Tom says

“You know if I’m part of this argument I really think I should be aware of it” You say flatly

“Yeah it is, mate. You know I’m right!” Haz says

“Yeah okay, that’s it” You say slipping out if the booth and neither of them notice as they kept bickering back and forth

Meanwhile, you asked for a knife from the waitress that knew the three of you fairly well and knew what you were up to. You thanked her as she handed one to you

You walked up back to the booth were the two of them were still bickering and placed one hand on the canter of the table, neither of them noticing.

You sigh and lifted up the knife and began to tap the tip of your knife between the gaps of your fingers, the two boys finally notice, their eyes widening and quickly got into action

Harrison quickly grabbed the knife and Tom took your hand and pulled you to his side quickly inspecting your hand to see if you’ve cause yourself any damage.

You see this happens often enough. The two of them would argue about something in front of you and suddenly you were invisible. So in light of this event happening way too often for your liking you’ve devised a plan to make yourself visible again.

The first time was when you were 13, they had been bickering and of course you were ignored. The trend of putting a knife between your fingers was becoming popular and you were exceedingly terrible at it having earned a couple wounds when you tried it for fun so of course when you did it in front of them as they were arguing quickly snapped them out of their trance.

It still worked to this day, it was quite interesting since when anyone else tried it they completely ignored them and would carry on with their conversation or mutter a few phrases like “Don’t do that there it’s distracting” or “Can’t you take that somewhere else?”

It was funny and a little endearing but nevertheless annoying since whenever you did that there followed a string of questions such as “What the fuck, y/n?” or “Have you gone completely mad?” or “What are you trying to do, give us a heart attack?!” or “What kind of stupidity entered your brain?” of course they’d stop you before you could even get to the second gap so really no harm could be done.

“What the fuck, y/n?!” Haz asks incredulously. See???

“I thought we were done with this!” Tom says putting down your hand but not letting it go

“See, I thought so too but you two had decided to just exclude me out of an argument that included me. Again. ” You say flatly

Tom massages his temples with his eyes shut, visibly trying to calm himself down and you subconsciously draw circle with your thumb on the back of his hand, you feel him relax a little before tightening his hold on your hand.

Now, don’t get it wrong, the boys didn’t have any problem playing rough with you when you were 6, and they certainly didn’t go soft on you when they taught you football when you were 16 nor did they go easy on you when you’d decided you wanted to learn how to box and the two of them became your instructor

But ever since you were young you’ve proven to be somewhat self destructive, hurting yourself more when you were going on with your daily life by sheer clumsiness or terrible luck instead of when they had been actually with you or anyone for that matter

The boys had decided early on that you were more of a danger to yourself than anyone else could ever be and so they kept a close eye on you.

“Okay, you wanna know what’s happening. I get that, love. I do. But why the fuck do you always think that putting a knife between your clumsy fingers will help you?” Haz says exasperated

“Well it got your attention didn’t it?” You say stubbornly

“You could’ve just asked!” Harrison exclaims

“I have been asking! For 10 minutes now! You didn’t even notice!” you shot back, your tone rising a bit. You feel Tom offer the same comfort you had earlier.

See, Tom and you may argue a lot but for some weird reason you’ve been the only ones to calm each other down. Not your mums or his brothers, not even Harrison. When either of you were angry or upset in any way, the only one who could calm each other down ever since day one.

People caught onto this pretty quickly so in turn they would lock the two of you in a room till you work it out or one of you kill the other, whichever one comes first.

So the two of you would be there always when one was upset even if it was because of each other. You breath in and calm yourself down.

“Okay, we’re sorry for ignoring you. I’ll explain, Tom’s management have been bugging him to get an assistant but Tom here didn’t want anyone hired by the management so he asked that he would hire one himself but he hasn’t found anyone.” Haz explains

“And what does that have to do with me?” You ask

“Well you’ve been struggling to get a job, and you know and can handle Tom pretty well so I’m suggesting that Tom hires you and you can join us and get paid!” Harrison says

“Which is why I’m saying no, cause it would end in disaster and arguments day after day neither of us want to go through.” Tom counters

“Yeah I’m gonna have to agree with Tommy on this one.” You said

“Why?!” Harrison ask

“It’s not gonna work, Hazzy. His job is tiring so is being a personal assistant to an actor and with our arguing we’ll get nothung done."You explain

"Oh come on! Both of you need this! It’s perfect!” Harrison tries.

“Haz, we’ll cost each other more harm than good.” You said rolling your eyes

“if you just try, you could actually make it work!” Haz exclaims

“Enough, Haz. I’ll find someone.” Tom says

Harrison gave up on the conversation eventually and the three of you caught up on each others lives over a few cups of coffee. It was dark when the three of you had noticed how much time had passed and headed home.

It was near midnight when you finally got to your apartment when you saw a notice on your door.

“Dear Ms. (y/l/n) ,

We are terminating your tenancy and want to evict you from the property for late payment of rent for 5 months in a row. We feel as though you are not the ideal tenant for this establishment. We ask for you to collect your belongings before the end of the week.”

You sat in shock for a while. You don’t really know what to do or where to go. You couldn’t afford another place to stay in. You didn’t have a job. This place was the only thing you had left.

You didn’t know when you’d start to cry but you felt tears dropping on you. You felt lightheaded as if you were floating, none of it feels real.

You don’t know how long you’ve been sitting there in silent sobs but you snap out of your trance when your phone began to ring, your eyes too blurry from the tears to properly read the name of the caller yet you answer anyway. Your ears were immediately met at the sound of Harrison’s voice

“Hey y/n! I’ve called you about three times now! Why haven’t you answered the first time?” Had he? You didn’t hear your phone ring but maybe you were more focused on the fact that you no longer have a home

“We were wondering if you’d like to go out to dinner with the Hollands tomorrow? Nikki has been asking about you even before we went home you know, the boys miss you as well-” Haz  cuts off as he heard you sob a little clearly trying to hold it back

“Hey? Are you crying? What’s wrong?” Haz asks worry in his voice

“I uh- its nothing. Nothing to worry about. Uhm I’ll see what I can do about that dinner, was that all, Haz?” You say failing to hide the shakiness of your voice.

“No, I’m not playing that game y/n. I’ve played that game far too many times. Tell me what’s wrong.” Haz sternly said and you sigh he wasn’t going to stop, you knew that.

“It’s nothing you need to worry about, Hazzy.” you say but even you weren’t convinced yourself

“Y/n.” He says, his voice hard.

“It’s just an eviction notice is all, Haz. I’ll figure it out.” You say trying to keep your voice as even as possible.

“What- an eviction notice? Y/n, why didn’t you tell us it was this bad?” Haz says concerned

“I-I didn’t know it was gonna get to this point and I wanted to figure it out by myself and-god Haz I don’t know what to do” You sobbed

“Shh, hey it’s okay, we’ll help you figure it out okay? Why don’t you stay with Tom and I for rhe mean time, yeah?” Haz suggested and you know he won’t take no for an answer.

Tom and Haz arrived at your place within 20 minutes and immediately hugged you tightly, they helped you collect your things and the three of you drove to the boy’s apartment.

“You can stay in my room for now, I’ll take the couch” Haz says with a hand on your back

“What? No it’s fine I can take the couch, you already helped me a lot.” You say

“It’s fine, y/n. We’ll sort something out in the morning just rest for tonight, yeah?” Haz says comfortingly and you sigh and simply agree.

You climbed on Harrison’s bed deep in thought of what’s gonna happen now and you give up on trying to sleep after an hour and you lay there staring up at the ceiling.

Sighing you sit up for a moment thinking about what to do and figuring that maybe water can help you so you stand up and headed out to the kitchen where you were surprised to see Tom sitting on the table.

“Hey” you greeted softly

“Hi, can’t sleep?” Tom asks and you hum in confirmation

“How about you?” you ask

“Can’t sleep either, Tess won’t come cuddle, she’s being particularly moody lately” Tom says

“Hmm, maybe she’s getting sick of you” you joke laughing and Tom gasps dramatically and made you laugh even more and he joins in on the laughter too

You calmed down after a few minutes and sat in silence

“How are you holding up with all this? I didn’t get to ask you earlier” Tom says softly

“As fine as you could be after getting evicted from your apartment” You said dryly and Tom sighs.

“Why didn’t you tell us sooner? you know we’re always here to help you, we could’ve done something about your situation if you had asked” Tom says softly placing his hand on top of your

“I wanted to do it myself, to prove that I can take care of myself and provide for myself, but I couldn’t.” You say, your voice breaking as you try to hold back tears

You’re reminded of what a failure you’ve become and how much you’ve let yourself down again. How you probably need to come back to your parents and tell them how they were right with your silly directionless dreams and how much of a disappointment you’ve become. It pains you to know how close you were to living the life you’ve always wanted and yet ended up as a disaster.

It didn’t take long for tears to fall from your eyes and Tom immediately engulfs you in a hug and you sob into his chest and he says nothing more but words of comfort and pressing a kiss on your head.

You stand there in silence with only your sobs and whimpers to fill the silence and all he could do was hold you.

You stop crying at some point and lift your head from his chest seeing the wet spot on his shirt

“Sorry ‘bout that” You say wiping away the rest of your tears

“it’s fine, at least I don’t have to see ypur ugly crying face” He says jokingly nudging you a little and you let out a small laugh

“Piss off, Stanley” you say humorously

“Make me” Tom said daringly and you push him a little and you simply roll your eyes.

“you know,” Tom starts “The P. A position is still free if you want it?” Tom suggested

“Tom, you know we can’t work together, like at all.” you said dryly

“Well, you need this as much as I do, this would be beneficial to both of us and I’m sure we can work something out” Tom shrugs

“Tommy, we’ll end up as a disaster.” You say but start to think about it.

“C'mon, y/n this could help us both, I won’t have to find a person to hire and you can work again” Tom said convincing you

“Here, Let me see the contract first, talk me through it, tell me about the job I’m supposed yo do and I’ll see if I want to take it, deal?” You say

“Deal. Do you have any plans of sleeping tonight?” Tom asks

“Not really no” You say honestly

“Then let’s run through the contract right now.” You were surprised that Tom actually knows what’s in the contract, He was dyslexic wich didn’t seem like common knowledge but you knew this of course you’d help him with homework and how to learn his lines easily so maybe he had Harrison help him out or got someone to explain it to him.

But by morning came and you’ve talked through the contract and made a few adjustments or suggestions of your own you were set to sign the contract within the next week.

“Yeah it is, mate. You know I’m right!” Haz says

You see this happens often enough. The two of them would argue about something in front of you and suddenly you were invisible. So in light of this event happening way too often for your liking you’ve devised a plan to make yourself visible again.

But ever since you were young you’ve proven to be somewhat self destructive, hurting yourself more when you were going on with your daily life by sheer clumsiness or terrible luck instead of when they had been actually with you or anyone for that matter

“Dear Ms. (y/l/n) ,

“Hey? Are you crying? What’s wrong?” Haz asks worry in his voice

Tom and Haz arrived at your place within 20 minutes and immediately hugged you tightly, they helped you collect your things and the three of you drove to the boy’s apartment.

14 and 40 combined?

Avatar

14. “They’re so cute when they’re asleep.” & 40. “The kids, they ambushed me.”

If there was one thing that Tony Stark learned since he reversed the end of the world, it was that happy endings didn’t come with a hard stop.

To have a happy ending, there had to be something unhappy before it. Something to make the peace taste like a novelty, rather than just another day slipping past.

For Tony Stark, his unhappiness was more than getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way to an important meeting. It was more than getting ghosted by a Tindr date. It was more than spilling his coffee on the dashboard of his car.

It was life and death. It was staring into an abyss of stars, feeling himself fall. It was being the last one standing, knowing he should’ve done more. It was the betrayal of his best friend, metal crushing into his ribs.

It was holding his child as he died, his pleas bouncing around with pinballs in his head.

These memories, these unhappinesses… they didn’t just evaporate when his fairy tale came true. The weight was easier to bear now, but it still wasn’t light. The echoes still tingled in his spine.

But the kids… his kids made wobbling under the burden so blessedly worth it.

It must’ve been Peter who set them up to it. Morgan was bright, sure, but she was still relatively oblivious to Tony’s long stretches of nightmares and insomnia.

Yeah. It must’ve been Peter.

The two little monsters came barreling into the living room after spending most of the day playing on the dock. Tony had left them to it. Was that bad parenting? Maybe, but he knew better than he knew anything else that Peter would never, ever let Morgan drown.

Plus, F.R.I.D.A.Y. was monitoring their vitals and movements nonstop, with a suit primed and ready to swoop in at the earliest sign of distress, so…

Morgan’s hair was still wet when she flung herself into his lap, and a cursory glance at Peter showed that he was the same. There was no hiding his naturally curly hair now. It’d get even more unruly as it dried, and a part of Tony acknowledged that he couldn’t wait.

He liked it when his kids looked their ages. For Morgan, it was pretty much all the time. But for Peter… there were moments now when the maturity of everything caught up to him, and Tony saw the man he was becoming rather than the child that he was. He knew that was a good thing, really, and he was proud of that image. Proud of the person he knew Peter would be. A far better man than him, without a doubt.

But… sometimes Tony just wanted moments like this: his kids, looking like kids, bright-eyed and flush-cheeked from racing up the porch. Young enough to hold. Young enough to protect.

As if sensing his thoughts, Peter collapsed onto the couch beside him and Morgan. He kicked off his shoes, clumsily enough that Tony couldn’t help but snicker, and then pulled off Morgan’s before Tony could think to do it himself.

Bless this kid. Tony didn’t deserve him.

“Have fun?” He asked, grinning as Morgan buried her still-damp face into his neck. “See any sea monsters?”

“No!” Morgan sounded genuinely disappointed. “But Peter and I made a sand castle!”

“Yeah?” He glanced over at the kid, only to find him holding up his phone. A picture of a poorly constructed sand castle was pulled up, complete with stick-and-leaf flags and a dug-out moat. “Wow,” he poured awe into his voice. “That’s really good.”

It really wasn’t. He raised eyebrow at Peter as if to say really, is that the best you can do? and the kid shot a glare in response, pointing at Morgan and shrugging.

Ah, yes. Of course. They were in the I do it myself! phase.

“It is, isn’t it?” Morgan pulled her knees up to her chest and twisted around so that her head was resting on his chest and she could smile up at Peter. “Peter helped me dig the sand, but I did everything else all by myself.”

Tony doubted that was strictly true, but he patted her head anyway. “Well done, squirt.”

“She did a great job,” Peter said easily, then hooked one of his legs around Tony’s ankles and dropped his head onto his free shoulder with an exaggerated sigh. “It was a lot of work, though, wasn’t it Morgan?”

Morgan giggled, snuggling closer into Tony’s chest. “So much work.”

“So much work,” Peter echoed. “We’re just exhausted now.”

“Mm, yeah, Daddy,” Morgan’s body shook as she laughed, “we’re really tired.”

“Oh?” He drawled, glaring down at Peter pointedly. I know what you’re doing, brat. “Well, maybe it’s nap time for the babies.”

Peter glared back at the nickname, but didn’t argue. “Maybe it is.”

“Nap time happens in the babies’ beds, y’know.”

“Oh, but Mister Stark,” Peter faked a huge yawn and pressed closer, slinging an arm around Tony’s chest and, by proxy, Morgan, “I’m way too tired to make it. I’ll fall asleep on the stairs.”

You’re a little shit, Parker, y’know that?

Tony managed to unpin one arm just enough to try to reach for his StarkPad, which was discarded on the coffee table. “Dad has work to do, guys.”

Peter used a foot to kick it out of reached, then pinned him back against the cushions. Jesus. He forgot how strong the kid was, sometimes.

“Now he doesn’t.”

At some point during their little argument, Morgan had actually fallen asleep. It didn’t surprise Tony. This was about her nap time, anyway, and he did actually believe that spending a day with Peter by the lake was, in fact, very tiring.

He turned his face into Peter’s damp curls to hide his smile and dropped his voice low, not wanting to disturb her. “Are you proud of yourself, Parker? You’ve got me trapped.”

“That was the plan,” the kid admitted, sounding very smug.

He brought the arm he’d freed earlier up to the crown of Peter’s head, gently working through the lake-water knots that’d cropped up in the mess of curls. His other arm was pressed up against Peter’s, both of them cradling Morgan. Together, they’d managed to form a protective cage around her back, keeping her close and shielded and safe.

“Well,” he murmured, feeling himself melt into the couch despite himself, “that’s one of my babies down for a nap. How’s the second coming along?”

“Not a baby.”

“Alright, alright. How’s my very-grown-up and very-adult child coming along, then?”

“‘M very happy to nap.” Tony didn’t doubt it, considering how warm and loose the kid was growing against him. “You too, though.”

“Yeah, yeah,” he soothed. “I know that was your plan.”

“Please?”

“I will, buddy, I promise.” He pressed a gentle kiss to Peter’s temple, then carefully shifted just enough to do the same with Morgan. “Sogni d'oro, tesori miei.”

He didn’t get a response, but he really didn’t need one, anyway.

Despite his promise, when Pepper came home from the store about thirty minutes later, Tony was still very much awake. It wasn’t actually that he’d meant to be. He’d planned to let the comfort of having his kids hemming him in pull him down from the beginning, but he’d found himself reveling in the moment just a little too much to drop off.

“Hey.” Pepper knelt in front of him, eyes roving over the scene and love pouring out from every inch of her face. He imagined that that love was mirrored in his own, although he had every confidence that he could never look as breathtaking as she did. “What happened here?”

“The kids,” he said, a little helplessly, “they ambushed me.”

“It looks like it was a brutal fight.”

“It was.” He grinned. “I’m lucky to have made it out with my life.”

They froze for just a heartbeat, gazes locking. Oh, oops. Sensitive subject. Right. Shit.

She shook it away, though, smile returning and tension leaking out of her shoulders as she took a steadying breath. “You really are.”

They were silent for a while after that, which Tony was perfectly content with. He could hear both Peter and Morgan’s steady breaths in the quiet. They were almost synced.

“They’re so cute when they’re asleep,” Pepper finally said, standing only to bend over and pressed a light kiss against his lips. “Why don’t you join them, yeah? We can have a late dinner, I’ll wake you.”

Please sleep, she was saying. Please don’t self-destruct. Please let them help you.

And he did. He gave her an easy nod, rested his forehead against Peter’s hair, and let himself sink.

He didn’t have even a single bad dream.

Do you think Tony records videos of Morgan’s every single milestone, right from her birth, to her first words (juice), first time she said her name (Mogoon, but close enough), her first steps?

Every birthday, every little achievement that was part and parcel of growing up, but Tony was proud of nonetheless. Because, hey, it’s his daughter. Everything she does, everything, is the mark of a genius in the making.

He seals it away in an indestructible box, specially designed by him for this express purpose. To keep the helmet that contains memories of his daughter’s childhood safe until her eighteenth birthday.

Pepper thinks it’s cute. An adorable little project Morgan might appreciate as an adult. She didn’t realise how valuable every second of that footage would be, someday.

After all, how could she have known?

For thirteen years it stays hidden away, under the floorboards of their old cabin. Pepper and Morgan may have moved back to the city, but the cabin remains in their name. She couldn’t even begin to think of selling it.

So it stays.

A quiet little structure, not quite neglected, but not exactly maintained either. A lone house in the woods, home to what little remained of Tony Stark’s living moments. Waiting for its owners to return someday, and relive the memories it holds for their sake.

And then she turns eighteen.

Morgan H Stark is no longer a child (although, Happy may disagree). They drive out to their old home. The one they hadn’t visited in years. It greets them like a long lost friend, arms open in an embrace that had long since been forgotten.

Pepper has Happy remove the floorboards, much to his horror (“they’re nice floorboards, Pepper!”).

The box is pulled out, dust cleared away, moss wiped off. Save for that, It’s in the exact same condition as it was 13 years ago. Of course it is. Tony Stark didn’t spend a sleepless night in his workshop for nothing.

They watch it together, all five of them (Peter and Rhodey wanted to come along, and who was she to deny them that?). Pepper, Morgan and Rhodey on the couch, Peter and Happy on the floor.

The helmet turns on, and Tony’s face, wet with tears, is the first image to appear. He’s in a hospital. The birth ward, specifically.

Pepper smiles, amused, but a little rueful.

They watch video after video of the man they had loved and lost, smiling one of the brightest smiles they had ever seen on his face. Going on and on about how smart his daughter is, how beautiful she is, how he can’t believe he got so lucky (he mentions his disbelief 23 times over 28 videos- Morgan counted).

They watch holograph after holograph of Tony carrying a much younger Morgan, holding her up like an award he isn’t quite sure he deserves. His face so real in the holographs, Pepper feels she could just reach out and touch him.

Wishes she could just reach out and touch him.

Pepper cameos quite often. Rhodey and Happy a little less, but they’re there anyway.

There isn’t a dry face in that little room that evening. They all mourn for the same man, sure, but for different reasons entirely.

Pepper, for losing the love of her life. He husband. The one man she’d loved the most, more than almost everything else. Second only to the young woman sitting beside her.

Peter, for the five years he could have had with his mentor- no, father. Five years of time cruelly snatched away from him, while all he could do was watch, helpless. Two was good, but seven would have been better.

Happy, for his boss. His friend. The man who made the world believe he didn’t care about anyone but himself, but knew when he needed ice cream after a particularly emotional episode of Downton Abbey.

Rhodey, for the idiot he practically grew up with, sharing everything from textbooks to a home. For his brother, not by blood but by bond.

And Morgan. She doesn’t mourn for what she’d lost, no. She was too young to remember that anyway.

She mourns for the years she wasn’t allowed to have, years she could have spent laughing with her father, learning from him, getting bad advice about boys, what have you.

Not for what was, but what could have been.

The room is silent, save for the occasional laugh at a stupid joke Tony made. Sorrow hangs in the air, like a cloud refusing to dissipate, as why should it? You try to will the pain away, deny that even after all these years, you’re still hurting.

But it’s there. Always.

They’re happy for the life he was allowed before it was snatched away right from under him. Each of them smile as memories of him flit behind their eyes, as they had been doing for over a decade.

But the fact still remains, the one singular fact that ties all their grief together, different as it may be:

They can’t have him back.

Ironstrange would be the classy couple.

  • They’re deadass two rich guys
  • With huge egos
  • Not that that’s a bad thing
  • But Tony would always insist they go to the fancy new restaurant in the city
  • Or that they go to the charity gala together
  • Linked arms with expensive tuxedos and champagne
  • And at dinner Tony would always sit and swirl his finger on the ring of the wine glass
  • As if to tease before taking a sip and waiting for their food
  • Or he’d always hide his smile behind it
  • You know the one I’m talking about
  • The one where his eyes are wrinkled
  • And it’s kind of smirking
  • But softly
  • Cause he’s lovesick
  • And he doesn’t intend to be charming as he takes a gulp
  • But Strange is looking at him from across the table
  • With those eyes watching Tony’s lips
  • Sometimes Strange would open portals to pretty places without the hassle of planes
  • Tony loves it
  • He wakes up one morning
  • And Strange is holding on to his waist and kissing into his neck
  • Tony wakes up tired
  • It’s one of those days
  • “I wish things were easier.” He says softly, looking more worn out than he did the night before.
  • “Tell me what’s on your mind.” Stephen breathes into his ear, teasingly hot as he kisses back down his neck.
  • “I want to go to Paris.” The genius says.
  • “I want to sit at one of those cafe’s where the road isn’t even, drinking warm coffee in a Tom Ford suit with no AI’s, no New York crime, just me and you.”
  • “Mmm,” He hums satisfactorily, “Tell me more, Stark.”
  • “I want to get you that cologne from L’Artisan Parfumeur. God I know it’ll smell good on you-“ He arches his neck, allowing the other man to plant more kisses and suck at that weak spot behind his ear.
  • “So let’s go.” He says, and he looks into Tony’s eyes so assuringly that he genuinely smiles back.
  • He wraps his arms around Stephen, nodding while kissing his lips softly.
  • They go.
  • They enjoy warm coffee at the Café Tony has been dying to go to forever.
  • They eat expensive overpriced caviar at dinner and kiss under the fairlights on the brick lined road.
  • They eat eclairs for desert and dip strawberries in chocolate while licking sweet cream off of each other’s lips.
  • Tony was right.
  • The cologne smelled divine on him.
  • He made him wear it the next morning while they ate croissants for breakfast.
  • Peter wasn’t surprised when Tony told him it was serious.
  • He knew he was already falling for the wizard the minute he told him the story of the wink.
  • When his mentor called him and said “Don’t go out on patrol today I can’t have you dying while I’m in Paris.”
  • “You’re going to Paris?”
  • “Yes with my boyfriend.”
  • Peter could hear how happy he was.
  • “That’s me!” Strange says along the line.
  • “Bring me something home.” Peter tells him.
  • The sorcerer smiles. “Did you have something in mind?”
  • “Anything.” Peter dismissed happily. “Look after him.”
  • “I will.”
  • He brought home so much for Peter.
  • Tony looked happier than ever.
  • Strange rolled his eyes when Peter made a comment about Tony being lovesick.
  • When Stephen went to put things away, Tony brushed past Peter and nodded.
  • “You’re right.” He said. “I am.”
