Hi, this was me.

I can now not "perform pain correctly" - THat is, I can't get other people to realize I am in pain because of practice against letting it EVER show- Often I can't even identify it, because through the well meaning ignorance of my loving parents I was raised to internalize and ignore any and all discomfort. If I said it hurt, no it didn't, and if it hurt badly no it wasn't that bad, and I should be quiet and sit stil to be hurt like a good girl for hair brushing, curling irons and all sorts of other mundane pain. That was good and praiseworthy, to swallow your own pain like poison until you didn't notice the taste. Until you *couldn't* identify the taste anymore.

Now i have a hard time even identifying if I am aching somewhere because I am so used to my pain needing to be hidden and ignored as totally as possible, and not mattering to anyone but me and I shouldn't care either...

So yeah now I'm in therapy for a lot of that.

Hello there, my fine broccoli shaped friend! (I know you’re not actually a broccoli, but I laughed at my own joke, so forgive me.)

Creating OCs and shared universes with friends is one of my great joys. @joaquinwhorres and I have the Motion Sickness Universe where I’ve woven her OCs into my fic, and I like to think that my character Jas is an integral part of her story, as well.

I could definitely see myself making references and mentions of other people’s characters, but I think the only ones I would be truly comfortable with writing are the ones I’ve mentioned above.

I’m sorry if this is not the answer you were hoping for. Thank you so much for asking and for being interested—I appreciate it more than I can say ✨

How goes your process when creating a new OC? Where do you draw inspiration from?

If you want another emoji, please let me know! Abby and Fe are both great friends of mine, and they're excellent writers as well, so I can't recommend them enough.

I know some writers are systematic in their creation of OCs, making spreadsheets and character profiles. They carefully consider their jobs and personalities and family relations before they ever start writing an actual fic. I’m not like that. I make things up as I go, and more often than not, as I’m writing. My OCs tell me their story as I’m writing them and it’s how I feel out who they are. I get an idea and follow the dopamine. One thing I always consider is their motivation and what brought them to the moment that opens the fic. For example, Dr. Jas Lane is at the Navy base doctor because she was demoted for disobeying a direct order, and that was one of the only things I knew about her when I first started writing.

Hi anon! What a great question 😄

I think my OC Imogen would get along really well with @withahappyrefrain's Danica! The chaos that would ensue if those two hung out is almost unfathomable, and I like to think that Danica would encourage Imogen's mission to drive Eccentric Professor Bob insane. She supports women’s rights, but more importantly, she supports women’s wrongs.

I would also love to see @blue-aconite's Thea Floyd and my OC Abby Lennox (in her original iteration) crossover. I think they have similar temperaments and would get along really well. I think they would bond over their traumatic breakups and understand each other better than most. I also like to think that the Floyd siblings of Let Me Drown would accept Abby as an honorary family member without a second thought.
