God, I have a headache already. I know tweet OP is being enthusiastic and not necessarily thinking about how they come across, but I'm just.

I'm tired of the numbers game. The popularity contest. The need to build hierarchies in a social environment where they don't really work. Fandom is by its nature decentralised and the barrier of entry is nonexistent as long as you have an internet connection and some kind of device to get online on.

You don't need to read the popular fic. You can, but it's not inherently better than going for the more marginal stuff if that is where your interests lie.

In fact, everyone deferring to the popular fic and the high-profile authors makes fandom narrower and more claustrophobic, and personally I gotta say: I'm not about that. Homogenous fanon leads to more boring fic because everyone is just treading the track laid by whoever happened to get picked by The Claw.

Just—go off the beaten path a little. Write that weird fic. Go back to canon and find the characters under their fanon masks. Take that back to fanfic and start a chewier trend.

We're all a bunch of weirdos in the gutter here. I am distinctly uninterested in crowning anyone Sovereign Weirdo, thanks.

title: back up on my chaos mode fandom: dishonored video games pairing: corvo attano/jessamine kaldwin summary: They have been together fourteen years. That is an entire life, and barely any time at all. (6.1k words, rated M.)

She has chosen him…. Let’s say, on a whim.

Her father’s advisor has even presented her with a painting of the man she is to choose, a man awarded at last with the finest title in the land for a near-lifetime of service for the Crown. But, she wonders – how many people live and die in her name, and they do not get such privilege?

taking over this town, they should worry

by pathofcomets

She has a house, she has a husband, and she has a baby on its way. She has something to hold on to, to protect, and she is not about to ever let it go. Even if it’s so frail, even if it hurts just as bad to keep it together as it does to come apart.

better when it’s broken (in)

fandom: Dragon Age Inquisition

pairing: Iron Bull / Female Trevelyan

summary: When the Qunari docked on the shores of the Free Marches, no one thought they’d be looking for brides in their people. But it was forced love or free war, and the nobles nodded their heads at their request, gathered their daughters, and found the faulty ones to give away for peace. A small price to pay, one that some noble houses paid even willingly.
Trevelyan was not necessarily one of them. But when all was said, and all was done: their youngest child and only daughter walked down the steps of the Chantry holding hands with a qunari several feet taller than her, whom she has never met until an hour before. Her mother has cried, and one of her brothers refused to show up for such a display of rank-pulling, aware that it had nothing of her choices in it. [Yes, the feminism left my body while writing this fic. Whatevs.]
 extra: 40k words | explicit | AO3 alternative link

“Their military leader is stationed in Kirkwall!” her father erupts. “How long do you think it’ll be until they rule the city and then proclaim war on the rest of the Free Marches? How difficult do you imagine it’ll be to get their boats in our own docks, and settle themselves in the middle of our own markets? For Andraste’s sake, they’re asking for wives!”

“And plenty of women in Ostwick!” her mother replies. “Why our daughter?”

“Who else is there to take her?”

For all the less popular writers. For the writers who don't get much attention. For the writers who have a very small following, or no following. For the writers who don't get a lot of notes or comments.

You are valid. You are brilliant. You are creating something unique and magical and all yours. No one would create it better. You are creating! You're writing! That is a magic all its own, and all yours.

You are valued, and valuable, and good enough as you are.

idk man, i just wanna write a fic that someone reads obsessively at 3am. a fic that someone loses sleep to finish because just one more chapter and tries to give multiple kudos. a fic that people will leave a comment on every chapter. i want to write a fic that people will recommend to others, that they think nails the characterization and relationship dynamic. i want to write someone’s comfort fic, someone’s favorite fic, or someone’s fic they read when they want to re-read something. i want to be that fic writer. i want to write that fic.

not to be emotional on main but fanfiction is a gift and it’s so fundamentally human to tell each other stories and i am deeply grateful to have that in my life. thank you all for adding so much emotion and meaning to the world with your words

Hiiiii, love your work!

I was wondering if there’s going to be a part 2 for the “and it’s just around the corner” Sebastian fanfic? 🥺

Hi!! Thank you so much: for the compliment and for reaching out!

The most accurate answer is: I don't know.

I have something written and started, that IS a continuation of that fic. However, the stars would have to align in a very specific way for me to finish it, and write something fully coherent, a piece in itself. It may happen, it is a possibility, but I cannot make the promise that one day there will be a sequel posted, because I really don't know.

general writing advice, actually: you don’t need an excuse beyond “BUT WOULDN’T THIS BE COOL” to write something into your fic. write things in solely because they make you cackle with the delight of a 12-year-old-boy playing with his dinosaur toys. it’s fun and there’s nothing stopping you or any of us at all any longer.
