Pinned info

Hi! I’m Drayce, a nonbinary queer disabled spirit worker, they/them.  I’ve been reading tarot and working with spirits for 6 years now.  I’m currently getting my degree in creative writing, I’m also a hobby artist and animator on the mundane side.

Posts tagged ‘personal’ are not to be reblogged but can be liked and commented on. All other posts are up for grabs.

I’m currently offering a multitude of services.  DIVINATION SERVICES ARE OPEN.  COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN.

My divination information can be found HERE.  I’m doing tarot and energy readings with plans to expand in the future.  I only accept a certain number of readings before I close down to give me time to do them so I don’t get overwhelmed.  I do have limited energy so turnaround time can vary.   I’m also doing animation commissions.  Examples and rules can be found HERE.  I currently specialize best in dragons.  I have the right to turn down a commission for any reason.  A down payment is required before starting.

Still on the artistic side, I’m trying to make an animated series!  It’s been in the works for almost 2 years now and I’m really proud of how far it’s come.  It features multiple disabled and lgbt characters with a plot of a young dragon trying to save her kind from extinction.   The Rusilvam wing of dragons has been at war for generations.  Lyga, an invasive reptilian species that weaponizes acidic venom, has been taking over their hunting territory and killing their kind.  Isra, a young dragon who was bitten by a lyga at a young age, has grown up hating lyga like everyone else in the wing.  Because of the bite, she's unable to breathe fire, the main weapon against lyga.  Forbidden from joining the hunt team lead by her partner, Tara, Isra has been fighting to find a place in the wing for her entire life.  Her visits to banished elders and unicorns start to reveal a conflicting narrative of who's the actual aggressor in the years long fight.  The discord is HERE if you would like to join.

My DMs and ask are always open.

Just scared my poor physical therapist by getting hella blurry vision when moving after she had me lay on the table face down with towel on forehead to do some work.  Couldn’t read her nametag, couldn’t see face details for a good 10 minutes.  Then it just got blurry.  Took another 10-15 minutes to go back to normal.  Had my dad pick me up cause she didn’t want me to drive home.

Now I’m sitting here like huh was that a fluke or should I be going to the ER

No, but seriously. If whenever you get up from wherever you start to feel faint, get palpitations, get numb, get nauseous, get light-headed and/or literally feel your blood drop to your feet, check the symptoms of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.

Also add more salt to your diet lol. With or without the POTS unless you have hypertension in which case I’d be more cautious.

Actually, it’s not just that you can reblog this. I want people to reblog this.

My poor mom went by years without knowing why the fuck she was having all these debilitating symptoms.

All it took was me making her add some more salt to her diet and have an isotonic drink daily and she IMMEDIATELY (as in, less than an hour) stopped feeling faint whenever she got up from kneeling down and her hair is slowly falling off less and less.

She used to need at least 5 minutes to recover from kneeling down and now she kneels down and stands up like it’s nothing. Even her joint pain from EDS and brain fog have improved tremendously and she has much more energy.

It’s not normal to always get dizzy when you kneel down and then get up, or when you get up from bed or a chair.

It’s not normal for any of that to make you light-headed or nauseous, or get blurry vision, headaches or palpitations.

It’s not normal for your body to suck at regulating its temperature and for your heart rate to go insane if you’re just mildly stressed.

It’s not normal to want to be active and “productive” but be unable to get your body to do anything so you just lay there, or if you manage to get anything done, you’ll need a whole week to recover.

It’s not normal to be tremendously tired all the time no matter how much you rest and sleep, even if people think you’re just “lazy”.

I’m pointing all these things out as abnormal because chronically ill people tend to not realize that our symptoms are symptoms.

Our individual bodies are the only bodies we’ve experienced and since most of us don’t look any different from others and aren’t taken seriously when we complain of any ailment, we assume our symptoms happen to everyone. They do not.

People with no physical conditions (at least not impairing ones such as being a bit short-sighted) do not have their bodies make life difficult for them, unless they’re temporarily ill. But we are ill ALL the time.

Take yourself seriously. Doctors and healthy people already don’t, so if you don’t take yourself seriously, who will?

If your body is making life difficult for you, there’s probably something going on with it, and if it persists and nothing makes it go away, it may be a chronic illness.

POTS can develop in previous healthy people after a Covid infection. If you have had Covid recently or know someone who has, please keep this in mind.

ya boy had Covid and my Doctor thinks I may have POTS as part of my Post-Covid Syndrome. He has me drinking pedialyte to help with it because of the sodium content and I gotta say, it’s expensive but at least it fucking works.

No wait, it’s really not normal to feel lightheaded and see everything in a blur for a minute when you stand from being laid down ????

Nope, it’s very much NOT supposed to happen.

The whole ‘salt is bad’ stigma is from the campaign during the boomer generation when there was too much salt in people’s diets and caused blood pressure issues etc. So now the entire population has gone to the other extreme with ‘low sodium’ and ‘no added salt!!’ as if its a health benefit and THATS JUST SIMPLY NOT TRUE.

With this fear of salt, people all over are developing POTS- salt deficiency disorder for the laymen. Some other symptoms include partial or total blackouts and what i refer to as heat sickness. Salt regulates your hydration and body temperature. If you DON’T SWEAT you have POTS. If summer months are almost impossible for you to enjoy because of the heat and sun, you probably have POTS and need more salt. If salty foods like puckles, fries, and chips taste absurdly good and/or addictive and/or SALTLESS, YOU NEED MORE SALT. Your tastebuds are literally telling you that you arent getting enough salt for your body. How do you know enough is enough? When your tastebuds go ‘ew thats TOO much salt’. Thats your sign you finally have enough in you for now. Yes, you can literally eat a teaspoon of salt and it STILL NOT BE TOO SALTY if you are very salt deficient.

Stop being afraid of salt, its a VITAL MINERAL TO OUR BODIES, WD NEED IT TO FUNCTION AND REGULATE OURSELVES.

*flapping hard* Iiiii gotta talk to my doctors again. I keep forgetting how many adults in my Cerebral Palsy support group have these issues.

I know the challah molds are for gluten free challah but what if also cake? Custard? jello? Ice cream?

Jello Cloud mold

gefilte fish with firmed jelly

I picked this up from my local judaica store today and the owner joked that she couldn't sell it to me today because it's still Passover. My friend who's willing to submit himself to the mortifying ordeal of making custard is going to make custard in this

It's so shiny, jiggles slightly, and tastes like vanilla pudding. I was laughing uncontrollably for a while and was scared to cut into it because it's deep in the uncanny valley of challah

Friendly reminder that:

  • Young people can have arthritis too.
  • There are hundreds of life long conditions and diseases out there that are typically diagnosed between 12 and 30.
  • There is a vast difference between being tired and having chronic fatigue.
  • Just because you can’t tell that someone is unwell from looking at them, doesn’t mean that you should assume that they are ok.
  • Many chronic illnesses are life long, and incurable. Many of them are potentially fatal.
  • If you have a disease like Lupus, on good days you still feel like you have a bad flu, 24/7.
  • Many of the medications used to treat chronic conditions have side effects that can really affect someone’s self esteem - like extreme weight gain, skin changes and hair loss.
  • Most chronic illnesses have very little awareness - its unlikely that you’ve heard of Sjogren’s Syndrome, Scleroderma, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or Fibromyalgia.
  • However these diseases can cause symptoms as varied as joint pain, fatigue, constant nausea, kidney failure, pneumonia, photo sensitivity, full body rashes, paralysis, strokes etc.
  • So please remember that invisible illnesses exist too :)

My dog has been having some issues recently, which I scheduled a veterinary exam for, but I finally inquired on the matter with my Mantic Famulus today. The fact that I've been so instinctively resistant to ask this question—despite my dog seemingly not being in very bad shape—was already a worrisome sign, but I felt it was time for me to face it. Unfortunately, the answer that was very explicitly given to me revealed my worst fear: he has terminal cancer.

I'm still going to the vet for medical confirmation, though, frankly, it sucks that we're going to pay a bunch of money to confirm what I am already certain of.

So, I guess both of our dogs have terminal cancer. My sweet, loving boys who helped me get through the darkest and most twisted time in my life. What a tough pill to swallow. I will find some way to learn from it, though, one way or another.

Due to this situation, I have decided to offer my divinatory services at a 20% off rate for now. Magic has made an absolute world of difference in the palliative care I'm able to offer them, but even still, vet appointments and pain medication are shockingly expensive. As such, I'm hoping that discounted prices will bring in a little more business.

I will share a post shortly that goes over the services offered as well as the downgraded prices. As an aside, I recently enabled the tipping option for my blog, and if anyone has even an extra dollar to donate here or there, it will be greatly appreciated. I work full time as a self employed Magical Practitioner, and I offer my services as a Farrie Physicker for free, so finances aren't always the most stable thing in my life. Luckily, magic picks up the slack in terms of getting our needs met most of the time, but when it comes to something like the immediate need of medical intervention for my beloved animal companions, I am reminded of just how much money makes the (capitalistic) world go 'round.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart of all who send warm thoughts and well wishes.

I contacted the EFF and the ACLU because all I could find about this RESTRICT act was random social media threads, many of which came from dubious sources.

The EFF responded. Take action: https://act.eff.org/action/stop-the-restrict-act-and-pass-real-privacy-legislation

I feel like my issues with doodles can be aptly summarized by the oops litter (happened under a daycare/sitter’s watch) we saw from a 1 year old doodle where each puppy went for $2000-3000 a piece. And yes they were merle.

Let that sink in. A 1 year old dog, which means too young for all the appropriate health testing or even really to know their full temperament/conformation. An accidental breeding to a dog with an unknown health status and pedigree. $2000-3000.

I have no problem with a big price tag on a dog, as long as it makes sense. I also have no problem charging a bit on an oops litter to make sure people don’t get them on a whim, and to cover the cost of rearing the pups. But to make such an insane profit on the accidental breeding of a 1 year old dog? Absolutely insane. For context, these puppies are more than I paid for Raava. What did I get with Raava? Multi generation pedigrees on both sides, full health testing on both parents, lifelong breeder support, Embark panel, two parents with extensive titling, AKC/UKC registration, first vax, deworming, exams etc. I didn’t mind paying for all that. So what the hell are some oops puppies getting that makes them worth $3000? Because a dog’s price tag shouldn’t be to make a profit or because they’re cute/trendy. Reputable breeders price puppies this way because you get A LOT, and they’re really not making a profit because of all the time and money they put into their dogs. Huge pet peeve of mine to see these irresponsibly bred dogs with massive price tags just because, and then people somehow take that to mean that the dog must be quality because it was expensive.

Doodles are always purchased on a whim, these people will always drop $1-4000 on a whim because they do zero research on dogs whatsoever.

If doodle people did any research on dogs, they’d just get a Standard Poodle, and they’d understand and accept that dogs are not stuffed animals / small children

I think the Doodle craze is finally dying down a bit. Someone was trying to sell Pyr Doodles locally for 2k for months and then slowly whittled the price down to like 400$, they didnt sell a one and they were getting big, so they eventually made a Free to a Good Home post and then people were scrambling like mad to get them free lmao.

I am assuming OP also have problems with this when it's Frenchies, pugs, berners, huskies, etc., because it's not just doodles that do this and end up with a massive, ridiculous price tag for "accidental" litters. Regularly see Frenchies being sold 5k+ for no health testing, etc. Also: "If doodle people did any research on dogs, they’d just get a Standard Poodle, and they’d understand and accept that dogs are not stuffed animals / small children" Plenty of people switched from spoos to doodles (many of the reputable doodle breeders moved from spoos), and I am *highly* educated in dogs and would never touch a spoo but would get a doodle.

My biggest beef with doodles in general is that

1. They're super unpredictable because so many of them contain really random breed mixes. A labrador poodle is not a golden retreiver poodle is not an Australian shepherd poodle is not a St. Bernard poodle is not a Bernese mountain dog poodle... but then you get so many things like "this is a mini bernadoodle it will be 25 pounds!" Which is significantly smaller than both parent breeds that allegedly went into it and with merle colored coats from some mystery source too. You can't do research on a purpose bred mix if you don't reliably know what the mix even is. The poodle half isn't going to equalize everything else in there.

And

2. The grooming, oh gods. People get these dogs because they want a dog that won't shed. But they mistake no shedding for low maintenance and think "it doesn't shed therefore it doesn't need to be brushed."

So you end up with huge dogs (a labrador standard poodle can easily top 80 pounds) that have very little grooming training that only have their issues addressed when it's already a neglect case and they're pelted down to the skin.

It's a really bad breed mix to get on a whim, because these animals will need regular dedicated grooming and daily combing down to the skin. A groomer will charge probably a hundred dollars per visit give or take, and if you go as often as you should that's an expensive thing to ask.

I hate that French bulldogs are the trendy new breed because they're already so structurally sus and people cranking them out and only breeding for color will only make that worse and worse. But a Frenchie is at least a small dog that the average person can fairly easily groom at home.

Neglecting a coated dog's grooming can so quickly and so easily turn into an animal cruelty situation because of how painful it gets and how quickly it can mat up and for that reason alone I encourage people to stay away from poodle mixes unless they have an active interest in dog grooming themselves. A well groomed doodle is a very cute dog but much like a continental cut on a poodle, it doesn't just grow like that. You gotta cultivate it.

As an ex dog groomer, I can't agree enough with zooophagous. Because these mixes are random and untested, they often end up with a terrible mixed coat that takes far more effort than a poodles' to care for.

I know what an actual poodle's coat is like and how to groom it.

Doodles? You don't know until they start maturing.

I'm so glad I don't have to talk another hysterical client down from the edge because their dog is pelted and it's a #7 special.

i’m spending today thinking about how saber toothed cats ALSO probably had a potato form.  how they also had a stage where they were fat little babies with very triangle tails and tiny squeaky voices.  how they also probably play wrestled and failed badly at calculating jumps.

i’m going to fistfight god for killing them off before i could personally see fat potato saber kittens

Many disabled/chronically ill people will never "get better".

No matter what we do. Even if we win the lottery and have access to all the latest medical advances.

Human bodies work in mysterious and unpredictable ways. This is not something we have control over.

It's just the way it is.

Today I learned 3D animation is a horror show outside the camera's field of view.

Avatar

Just to add context, the director wanted the scene to use an 85mm lens which is slightly telephoto. Telephoto lenses give a very intimate feel because they compress the scene. Background and foreground objects can appear larger at longer focal lengths.

But that compression can also make objects look the wrong size in context with the subject depending on the framing.

This is done in live action as well using another person's hands in front of the camera.

The secret rule of Judaism is that you will always have more than one menorah in your house. It doesn't matter how religious you are or how much you do/n't celebrate chanukah. You will end up with three of them. They will just appear one day in your closet. You cannot escape them. It is inevitable.
