FOR THE SMOKE OF NIGHTMARES wip intro (N/A) | fantasy

In For the Smoke of Nightmares, we follow Reuel, one of the hundreds of kids who were born with abilities after the end of the Great War which saw the release of a Great Ancient Evil. When a prisoner accused of trying to assassinate the Crown Prince arrives at Tariam Fortress (home to those with abilities) Reuel is faced with a power similar to his own, one he thought he was alone with. He is also made aware that another war is brewing, but this time, nation won't fight against nation.

IN THE DARKENED SKY wip intro (N/A) | fantasy

In In the Darkened Sky, we follow Senka, a daughter of none, raised isolated in a valley by Sylvain Astavau, a retired captain of the King's Army, and later also the dragon Nithe, who hatched while in their possession. But their idyllic, slow life is promptly interrupted by the arrival of soldiers and the message they carry. Sylvain Astavau has been called back to serve, and Akresia is going to war. Senka and Nithe are thrust into a structured, military life, forced to follow rules they don't always agree with, and are tossed into a conflict they have no experience with.

AN INSTRUMENT OF PEACE wip intro (N/A) | sci-fi

In An Instrument of Peace, Dr. Floriane Achard is approached with a proposition she cannot turn down. An expedition to a new planet, humanity's potential new home as they are losing the war against Mother Earth. But the scientific exploration of the new planet shows it has previously been inhabited by lifeforms as intellectual as humans, if not more. What was a mission to decide on the planet's suitability for humanity's survival turns into a hunt for the truth. What happened to them? And is it still present?

EVENT RULES AND DETAILS

With our upcoming event we have had many people join our Discord server. This is the perfect time for us to release our FAQ about how we deal with events and such inside of them. If you are participating, please read through this!

THE SERVER

  • We have a leveling system in our server. The more you talk, the more you level up. We will kick people from the event if you have yet to reach CROOK aka LVL 5 as it is extremely easy to reach. All you have to do is talk. This is non-negotiable. CROOK is reachable within a day.
  • You must also give yourself roles from the role menu when you join! If you need help just ask a leader or mod. You will be also be kicked if you do not do this. We only require AGE and PRONOUNS. Other roles beside these DO NOT COUNT! Please do not join and not give yourself roles!

JOINING ONCE THE EVENT HAS STARTED

Please try and join before APRIL 1ST. Anyone who joins a week late (APRIL 8TH) will not be accepted into the event. You must be active. We will be more lenient with the level rule if you have just joined but if you continue to not be active and haven’t reached common within a week you will likely be kicked from the event.

HOW IT WORKS

Most of the information is contained within the document accessible within the server's event channels. Rather than word count, the leaderboard will be based upon the PERCENTAGE of how close you get to your word goal. Anyone who reaches their word count before the final few days will be asked to increase their goal to make it fair for slower writers. Please do not hesitate to speak or join the server. We are extremely welcoming and active, but if you cannot respect our rules then you cannot participate in our events.

BAHRO: The eldest brother of the infamous Vestre beast siblings. Has done and will do anything to protect his little sister and sibling. Betrayed Sidereus for the sake of its survival, and is ready to betray the divine to protect what he loves.

𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆

KALEIS: Home of the Original Six gods and her Divine Majesty Heather. Has held and led the Phantom Empire for billions of years after the surrender of Mu. A leader in military, trade, agriculture, textiles, and diplomacy. A diverse, massive planet, though it possesses a shared language and religion thanks to its divine leaders.

PYNACINIUM: Kaleis's capital to all its nations and governances. Home of the Original Six and Heather, as well as the Palace of Pynacnium.

SIDEREUS: The home planet of the demon race of shifters, or veles. Long ago colonized by the Evernight brothers, much of its distinctive culture and language was wiped out among the masses, though its old-faith priests still try to preach of the divine and their Path to the Niedostepny. Sidereus's survival is left in the hands of the Vestre family, one of the first shifter families, who have slaughtered thousands if not millions to ensure the Evernight brothers don't do worse to their home.

NOTE: Hello! I'm so excited to be posting about this novel! It is, in my opinion, my magnum opus, granted every new book I write feels that way. After a very grating start to this book, it is already at 120K words, so she's gonna be a big one, but I'm excited to share more about Altars In the Sky, particularly my baby girl anti-hero, Bahro Vestre.

WTW VALENTINE'S WEEK - STORGE

Dr. Floriane Achard & Lucille Byrne

In her early twenties, Floriane had a short fling with fellow student Eddie Byrne and birthed their daughter Lucille Byrne when she was 23 years old.

Even though Floriane left Eddie when Lucille was 5 to focus on her career and avoid a relationship she wasn't happy in, Floriane makes sure she sees Lucille as often as possible. Lucille staying with Eddie was a choice they made together when Eddie decided to move to Edinburgh and Floriane decided to stay in London.

Lucille is the one thing Floriane cherishes the most in her life and if she wasn't traveling so much as an anthropologist and archeologist, she would have had Lucille full-time, if it was something Lucille wanted. But when Floriane is back in London she spends as much of her time with Lucille as she can. She loves her daughter, there is no doubt about that. But she shows it, living so far from her and always traveling, through gifts and anecdotes and spending time together doing all those things she can't do as Lucille's mother more regularly.

WTW VALENTINE'S WEEK - PHILIA

There will unfortunately not be any fancy graphics this time around, but I'll still try and get something up for this event! It might just end up being text but at least it's something.

So, for this Valentine's week of prompts, I'll be exploring the relationships in An Instrument of Peace, my sci-fi project. Names that will be of importance this week are Dr. Floriane Achard (protagonist), Dr. Daniela Lucia De Leon, Dr. Sebastien De Koster, and Gabriel Verhaagen.

Floriane's relationship with Richard Blackburn started out as that of a professional one. She spent many years as his research assistant whilst finishing her education and furthering her knowledge in the field of archeology. Their relationship changed from colleagues to friends rather naturally during their years together and remains so even after Floriane moved on to other work. Even though they don't meet up in person very much anymore, Floriane considers Richard to be one of her most cherished friends.

WTW RELATIONSHIPS WEEK - FOILS

In For the Smoke of Nightmares, we meet both Reuel, who is our protagonist, and Master Shiloh, the first child born with extraordinary abilities after the release of an old evil (an entity made of magic but without shape). Master Shiloh has taken Reuel under her wing when his abilities manifested and proved volatile, both to himself and others. Her guidance has been a saving grace for Reuel. Reuel possesses an ability greatly similar to that of the great evil itself, and it manifests in the ability to communicate and build a relationship with creatures that is rooted in the great evil's magic. Shiloh, on the other hand, is of the light. While her abilities include light and illumination, they aren't as peaceful and generous as people want to believe. Shiloh is one of the greatest and most powerful of these extraordinary children, but because of her affiliation to light and a winning personality, it is Reuel and his dark monsters that are feared, shunned, and considered dangerous. Which they are.

WTW RELATIONSHIPS WEEK - SIDECHARACTERS

TARYN - c r e a t u r e w a l k e r with the ability to see through and control animals, taryn is excellent at surveillance work. her body locks up when she is no longer in her own body, and the further she is from its location, the harder she will struggle to keep control of the animal.

ZAHAVA - c h a m e l e o n with the wonderful ability to change her appearance, zahava is an observant young woman. her ability does not copy the mannerisms of the person and it is also increasingly difficult to come back unchanged to her original body.

MEIRI - b o n e b r e a k e r with a bone-breaking and bone-healing ability, meiri is useful on both the fighting and healing side of life. he prefers to break bones rather than heal them since it uses up less energy.

SAZIYE - f i r e w a l k e r with an ability such as fire manipulation, saziye struggles not only with controlling but also mastering it. she plays it safe most of the time but her temperament unfortunately does get out of her hands sometimes.

In For the Smoke of Nightmares Reuel and Lael, the protagonist and antagonist respectively, share a lot of similarities. Their apparent association with the ancient evil, the connection to the darkness that it is, a language only they speak (along with other creatures that spawned from the ancient evil's prison). Lael is the tangible threat. The one with a shape, who can speak and act and be understandable. The one who tried to assassinate the Crown Prince.
