The result is a ~200 pages of work that fans can color and complete, totally free of charge!! I flexed my print production muscles and compiled them all into an A4 sized PDF as if it were a real coloring book! I tend to agree with @solivar who wrote that maybe those of us who write explicit fanfic are safe from the purge for now, but given the history of fandom purges, “the writing’s on the wall.”

I will definitely be making my way slowly toward spaces more friendly for all of fandom, and I’ve always liked that PF has so far remained transparent and refused to make itself beholden to advertisers, so I’m still hopeful about that one. I know many people missed the free period and now have to pay for an access code, and that this may be a barrier, so I don’t plan to immediately vacate Tumblr. I have a big ol’ queue of mostly-SFW art that’ll still be running for a while, and I’ll be feeling out how this purge plays out and doing quite a bit of crossposting in the meantime.

After a couple questions about it and some thinking, I also made a Twitter: robocryptid there as well.

I have no idea how this is gonna shake out or how well I’ll do at balancing multiple platforms, but I don’t wanna lose touch with folks, so I’m trying to cover my bases. <3

In the same vein as the Tumblr “Find Me” Directory, which casts a much broader net, and after some chatter about it on Discord, I created a Google Form and Sheet to help us find each other. I know it doesn’t make it suck less that you or your friends or the people you follow are all talking about splintering off, but hopefully it can help make the transition smoother and keep us all in touch with the folks we wanna be in touch with. While this says McHanzo because this is the main fandom hub I created it for, you are more than welcome to use it for more general Overwatch purposes as well!

It’s not just Tumblr, people. This shit is getting ridiculous.

Of course it’s not Tumblr! They came for Craigslist personals first because that’s the oldest trick in the book: Sneakily taking down the ‘perverts’ under the guise of vague, high morality goals and working slowly up from the bottom, picking off larger and larger targets. Few people cared about CL because of the stereotype of scary unwashed creeps trawling for sex online. That wasn’t so familiar or cute so it was fair game.  

Tumblr is biting at the ‘artists’ heels and suddenly there is a bit more noise, because artists aren’t supposed to be treated like shit, are they? However even now the hair-splitting over what’s porn and therefore garbage and not-art shows that attitudes are not so different. It’s still the same divisive, dangerous us v.s. them mentality that is so easily exploited.

This is why when people tell me I shouldn’t worry about this because ‘my art isn’t porn anyway’ it makes me angry. It means so much more than drawings or a silly blog. This is about people being slowly phased out of their freedoms, rights and agency. History has shown time and time again that whenever power wants to make a crushing move backwards, it comes for what it declares ‘obscene’ first. People are raised to be scared and ignorant of sex so it’s an easy gateway. When they come cracking down on sex is when we most need to pay very close attention. They are not protecting us.

Yeah. This isn’t about whether *you*, specifically, don’t want NSFW content shoved in front of your eyeballs, it’s about whether the people who want to see NSFW content have the right to see it *at all*.

It’s also about what counts as ‘nsfw’ or ‘pornographic’ content. The article hints at it but doesn’t state it directly, but LGBT content - any LGBT content, even the most G-rated or strictly informative kind - is usually an early target in the name of ‘cleaning up’ a website. (YouTube, for example, is already guilty of doing this.)

Edit: to anyone seeing this post for the second time, tumblr is being fucky, posted several of my posts multiple times and even deleted one of them, so I’m putting this back up.

I’ll still be around after the purge, but whether I’ll stay remains to be seen. My dashboard feed has been pretty empty lately, and if that’s a sign of how this site will be from now on then I don’t see much point in staying, but we’ll see.
