Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.

AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.

Here are the important details:

  • We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
  • We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
  • To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
  • For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
  • Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

rewatching fhsy in preparation for fhjy and I've only just noticed that in (I believe) Blast from the Passed, Lou reads out Fandrangor's properties and Zac looks at the camera and says get in the comments for Brennan to make US magical weapons and Emily goes "yeah!!". My Green Heaven, Murph gets all his gadgets from his dad and Emily gets her new bass guitar. In Forest of the Nightmare King, Gorgug gets his new axe. THAT is a good DM. it was kind of a joke but he GOT THEM THOSE ITEMS. I just never noticed they had mentioned it in the show I figured he either surprised them or was gearing them up, or maybe they had spoken about it off camera.

I don’t know if you count this, but I think that was also the same episode where he had Ayda give Adaine a bespoke 1st-level spell.

>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.

>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.

>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.

>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.

>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.

>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.

>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.

>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!

>Lemmings problem now solved.

>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.

>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.

>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.

>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.

>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.

>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.

Seriously, get and run PiHole if you can. It changes your internet experience so much for the better. I get shocked when I visit a website when I'm someone else's network, by just how many ads the internet is flooded with now. Take back control.

things i cannot wait to hear again in fhjy:

- fabian saying "the ball!! 💖✨"

- whatever tragic thing gilear has been up to recently

- riz hissing

- ayda and fig flirting So awkwardly

- the hangman

- baby aka wretchrot aka how does brennan not lose his voice

- gorgug's "i go into a rage"

Also adding on:

- Arthur Aguefort’s general insanity

-Actually, like, half of the recurring NPCs

- It’s a long shot given character development, but Kristen’s “inspirational” speeches? I’m not totally finished with SY so idk if they still do them

- The Identify Spell

idk how i feel about “not every superman is good” because yes, obviously, there are evil supermen, but that’s such a TINY minority because being evil is against the entire concept of superman, like the versions of clark that are evil aren’t really superman

and i feel like this is gonna push lois into a downward spiral because we already know she has trust issues. and yeah also this was probably mr. mxyzptlk’s plan (get lois to stop trusting clark, clark is hurt and confused and easier to take down) but i just don’t know how i feel about the wording

A tiny minority, true. However, I think it’s implied that the League of Loises are a case of confirmation bias.

After all, which Lois Lanes are going to join the elite multiversal cleanup squad? Probably the ones that had something effed-up happen with their home world’s Clark, and those ones are going to be at the top of their files. And that “tiny minority” are the ONLY alternate universe Supermen she’s seen, at least for now.

Hopefully the air gets cleared up somehow. Who knows what’s coming, though.

The Archive is experiencing some issues (as many of you have noticed).

It looks like the Archive is under a DDoS attack causing the servers to fall over. Our volunteer sysadmins are working on countermeasures. Please be patient with us, we'll be back!

A DDoS attack is when an attacker attempts to knock a site offline by overwhelming it with requests. Data is not compromised in a DDoS attack, so there is no need to change your password at this time or worry about your works being lost.

A group presenting themselves as a collective of religiously and politically motivated hackers has claimed responsibility for the DDoS attack. This group has attacked other sites before, including those of government organizations and large corporations. However, cybersecurity experts do not believe the group is honest about their motivation, so we urge caution in believing any reasoning this group provides for targeting AO3.

As part of our efforts to help keep the site up, you might find that you get "Retry later" errors more often when searching or filtering works or bookmarks. Don't worry, just go a little slower, or try again in a few minutes! These are temporary measures. Normal use of the site is fine -- you don't have to avoid using AO3 if it's currently up for you.

Our volunteers are continuing to work hard on this issue! We appreciate your patience and support in the meantime.

The Australian Ballet is doing Alice in Wonderland again and on one hand I’ve seen it before, and on the other, their Queen of Hearts has my favourite costume in anything every

It’s just this and her court pushes her around the stage on wheels and every act it gets taller until she towers over everyone

Also in act 3 (I think) it swings open at the front and her husband is sitting inside reading a newspaper

I saw this again on Tuesday so here are some things I’d forgotten about:

  • This is the only Alice adaptation I’ve ever seen that doesn’t cut the caucus race
  • The mad hatter wears taps throughout and it’s so jarring and surprising it’s perfect
  • The executioner shadows almost everyone who dances with the Queen
  • Lewis Carroll is a character in the ballet and becomes the white rabbit who leads Alice into wonderland which is bad and wrong because Carroll is the dodo but does work very well
  • They started dropping rose petals from the ceiling onto the audience when Alice looked through the door to the garden and it was utterly magic
  • The Cheshire Cat is made of about 10 different puppets that dance around the stage
  • Which reminds me Alice is styled after Alice Liddell rather than the John Tenniel illustrations
  • I don’t think the king of hearts actually dances he just wanders around looking confused

here’s a video

more. (btw this is a parody/reference to the very famous “rose adagio” from sleeping beauty)

the Caterpillar is pretty neat too

(all of these videos are from the Royal Ballet’s productions in 2014 and 2017)

Finally an adaptation that makes feel like I’m going to have stroke, it’s perfect

Absolutely thrilled to see this adaptation getting the respect it deserves. I'm not big on ballets, but this is one of my favorite things of anything. The original Royal Ballet production has two proshots which were available on YT at some point, but I'm sure can be found elsewhere. Also, fun fact, The Hatter in the video there is Steven McRae, one of the world's best tap dancers and ballet dancers. He was in the godawful Cats movie as the Railway cat and was one of the only good things in it.
