not to put my thoughts on something that has nothing to do with me but I was basically raised on ao3 and i will always prefer longer fics to shorter ones. Though this is not to say that the writer of any shorter fic isn't any good, i actually think it's a skill of it's own to be able to write something so good in 5k or less.

the issue these days? it's that people who both write and prefer to read longer stories simply cannot find them here on tumblr anymore and/or will be ignored by readers because they will not sit through a long fic or simply skip everything to get to the smut.

I agree that writers should not be expected to pump out novels on the regular but in my experience as someone who writes longer fics, no one demands it. In fact, they ignore most fics that reach a maximum of 20k, which is killing the fic community.

most people who state that they read fics 60k+ are not the ones demanding more, more, more. Because most of those readers are well aware that to read a long fic, they have to wait for the same passion from the writer. In my personal experience, i see people asking me to pump shit out when it's a shorter fic, and they don't fucking stop. Why? Because it's short, and they assume because of that, they can get it within a day or two.

idk, my opinion may differ but I feel like it's harder for long fic writers to find an audience. This is not to shit on any writer whatsoever though, i wish i could put out shorter works, really, i do. It would mean more for you, more for me, and actually less in my head to get onto paper. idk, im sick of trying to force my fics into a box so people will read it. don't fucking ever tell me write shorter fics. either read it or don't.

Fanfiction writers (Scriptor fictus) are intelligent animals who need plenty of enrichment as well as encouragement! If they’re stuck in poor conditions (e.g. have studies, work, have to actually write to have something written) then they require the proper enrichment to engage in more healthy behaviours, like writing. Remember, due to poor breeding and socialisation, over half of all fanfic writers suffer from low self confidence and executive dysfunction so take care of them!

Give your fanfic writers proper care. Fanfiction writers are a life long commitment.

since i fully expect tumblr to monetize booping at a later date like they did with the crabs, here's your reminder to not give them any fucking money until they get their asses in gear and not only address but fix their moderation policies surrounding racism and transmisogyny and bigotry in general
