Ain 4th Path Description
Lofty: Schreier
Apparent Age: 21 yo, Male, Pendulum
After his contact with the goddess was cut off, he worried for her safety. The situation in Elrios only worsened those concerns. Torn by the guilt of failing to fulfill his mission, of causing the El to be damaged, he was further horrified at the sight of humans who continued to recklessly mishandle the Elās power. Why did they keep making the same mistakes? He knew there was nothing he could do - after all, the El was bestowed upon Elrios by the goddess herself. Even so, he could not rid himself of his disgust as he watched humans use the El's power carelessly.
āShould the El really be left in their hands? If only my voice would reach the goddessā¦ā
Anxiety made his physical condition worse. Could it be the wound he sustained inside Henirās dimension? As a temporary solution, he gathered faint El energy to heal himself. He knew that, using this method, he could maintain his form until he either returned to normal or fulfilled his mission. But the small amount of El energy he had gathered into his body influenced him.Ā A new power awakened inside him, which he called Arte.
āThis situation cannot continue. I must gather the scattered El energy and let the goddess know of this blasphemy.ā
Ain maintained his physical condition and assisted the El Search Party, remaining vigilant for any chance to contact his goddess.

Apparent Age: 21 yo, Male, Pendulum
Did the goddess forget me? Left without an answer to his calls, Ain began to think the worst. No, that canāt be itā¦ He tried to suppress his anxiety as his thoughts spun. Perhaps pursuing the Elās whereabouts is not enough to reach the goddess.
But his barely-suppressed anxiety boiled over the moment he discovered the corrupted Dark El. Shocked, horrified, he tried to purify the Dark El in a panic, but instead accidentally exposed his rift-wound to the demonic energy within. He realized what had happened too late. The demonic energy had already corrupted his creation magic.
Once he managed to regain his composure, terror melted into fury. Not only did those fools shatter the El the goddess had given them, they carelessly used the shattered pieces of that El with no remorse. Shameless and ungrateful beings, taking the Elās blessing for granted. The goddess may have given them this blessing, but they did not deserve it.
Awful, uncontrollable emotion pushed him to a decision. Noā¦ If the El is left as it is, it will only get worse. My duty is to return energy to El. For that, the destroyed El must first be restored.Ā But I cannot leave it to those who had damaged it once before. The El must be protected, and I, the emissary of the goddess, must be the one to do it. And so Ain began retrieving the El energy scattered throughout Elrios.
Even as he retrieved the energy, his own power slowly turned. The demonic energy that had fused with his wound still corroded his body, corrupted his being. Perhaps if he used the energy he had retrievedā¦ But that would be misusing his goddessā power for his own gain. He could not bring himself to do that, especially as heād completely failed to fulfill his duty. Thoughts like these tormented him with guilt.Ā Unbeknownst to him, his corruption was spreading to a point he couldnāt even fathom, as the demonic energy took root deep inside.

ā...Iāll make it so that the goddess will have no choice but to come and find me.ā
A twisted emissary of the god who doesnāt hesitate to destroy to force an answer from the goddess. A class that uses Airt is formed by continuously retrieving and returning El energy that supports effective and powerful battles.
The Giant El had been restored. All the energy Ain had gathered had been absorbed into it. He had not expected it, but neither did he mind. The restoration of the El was needed for his mission. For a moment he believed he could soon fulfill his duty. Now, if he sacrificed himself and injected his strength into the Giant El, it would return to its stable stateā¦Ā
As he stretched his hand toward the El, he winced and recoiled.Ā An instinct deep within screamed that he shouldnāt do this. Before he could even think, an instinctive repulsion pulled his hand away from the El and toward the ground. The reason for this repulsion soon became obvious. A godās representative whoād been corrupted by demonic energy and steeped in the power of chaos cannot fully restore the El.
Everything was in vain. He believed everything would return to its place if he could just fulfill his mission, and now what should he do? He couldnāt just decide what to do alone. Confused and more desperate than ever, he called out for his goddessā answer. Whether she chose to enlighten the path of her foolish emissary, or descend to punish him for failing his mission, or replace him with anotherā¦ Be it salvation or destruction, so long as she replied, Ain was willing to heed any answer. However, the only thing he received was that same horrifying silence.
Whyā¦? He couldnāt understand. The sudden explosion of the El, Henir, demons, his authority changing from Ishmael to Elriaā¦ Unforeseen events piled up, one after another, things he hadnāt been tasked to deal with. He grew resentful of the goddess. He cried out, pleaded, begged, threw his resentment up in prayer, and received only silence. He wasnāt asking for something he didnāt deserve, like those foolish creatures of Elrios! How could she insist on silence in all these situations? Unless she had completely abandoned himā
As his crisis of faith petered into exhaustion, Ain decided to give up and find another way. At this point, he had to hear an answer. Any answer. And if he couldnāt reach the goddess himself, then he would force her to look for him.
āI will return the El to the goddess.ā
Even if it means destroying the goddessās beloved Elrios.Ā If I can reach herā¦ itāll be worth any sin.

thoughts about link click and its great characters (major spoilers)
I think what I really like about Link Click is the emotional maturity of its characters. Granted, our protags are all adults, and so we expect them to react to serious situations with more emotional intelligence than a child or teenager (even if they are goofy in other circumstances), but I really liked how Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang never truly blamed each other for their actions. If this were a more generic/trope-y story with teenagers as the protags, we would probably see the two split and monologue dramatically about their ideologies and how the other is wrong (Lu Guang for focusing too much on theĀ ābig pictureā of events, and Cheng Xiaoshi for being too emotionally invested in each clientās life). But besides Cheng Xiaoshiās (justified) outburst of pain and anger after what he experienced from eps 3-5, he never blames Lu Guang for trying to be neutral, because he understands deep down that Lu Guang is right to a degree, and that they canāt fundamentally shift the past if they want the world to exist as it is now. Cheng Xiaoshi is also responsible enough to see and acknowledge the negative consequences of taking independent action from Lu Guangās instructions while in the photos. He never uses the differences between him and Lu Guang to create a rift between them, because he trusts Lu Guang, has a deep friendship with him and Qiao Ling during a period of his life when he had no one else, and knows that Lu Guang is ultimately looking out for his (Cheng Xiaoshiās) safety. Thereās no drama and misunderstanding for the sake of drama and misunderstanding, because they have the same goal of helping their clients and friends to the fullest degree possible.Ā
Additionally, Lu Guang, despite looking like the trope ofĀ ācold/detached/cruel white-haired boi who is juxtaposed with his emotional dark-haired counterpart,ā is very much empathetic and driven by his emotions himself. When Xu Shanshan goes missing, he immediately takes the lead to find her, because he knows Cheng Xiaoshi is in a terrible emotional state and doesnāt want him to get hurt. Lu Guang isnāt above being silly and enjoying Cheng Xiaoshiās and Qiao Lingās company. He always tries to protect Cheng Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling, just like Cheng Xiaoshi always tries to protect everyone he meets. And his reserved nature seems to stem from loneliness and the burden of seeing the inevitability of outcomes in the clientsā photos rather than āedginess.ā I think a nice example illustrating his personality is in the chibi specials:Ā
Even though itās a silly episode, like all the chibi specials, this is a nice microcosm of all the stress that Lu Guang needs to take on whenever he looks into a photo. He needs to be the calm one who guides Cheng Xiaoshi through the photos, because he knows Cheng Xiaoshi will be experiencing all of the unwanted turmoil of whomever he possesses. Even when he sees the misery of others, Lu Guang has to push that aside in order to ensure that he can at least save one person (the client or whomever he knows can be saved within the photoās timeline). And considering how quiet he is by nature, Lu Guang has likely kept this burden all to himself. Yet Lu Guang never turns his back to helping someone when it is possible for him to do so.
That is to say, I fucking love Link Click and its wonderful characters - the writers, VAs, animators, etc. really knew what they were doing and they honestly deserve so much more credit for this show
