lunch breaks are the rare occasions on which chris could get to see any of their female trainees that were aiming for debut. well, apart from maybe one or two he annoyed on a daily, but he can’t remember the last time his eyes landed on yuzu... was it the mga’s? so when the aussie’s eyes landed on her, he made a straight line to her, placing his tray on the with a dramatic thud table and sitting across from her.
“it seemed like you fell off the face of the earth and actually know what seats you are allowed to sit on freely, how’s life?“ chris asks, casually. he wasn’t the most open person but he always wanted to know what the sphere trainee’s were up to. especially the girls nowadays. their debut scheme was pretty weird to say the least. according to his humbler opinion. it seemed even more scary than the normal route, but he could only speculate.

after dinner with his favorite person, it was only a matter of time before chris’s head hit rose’s thighs while they lay on the couch. sure, he had to put the table away, however with a bottle of red wine and two half filled glasses on the coffee table... chris couldn’t complain even if he wanted to really.
“so tell me, love“ he starts, sitting next to rose and rests in such a way so he manages to place his head on his girlfriends thigh. “tell me a fun fact.“ chris finishes with a hum, eyes closing and snuggling closer to rose. their schedules were pretty packed. while he could say that his evenings were pretty free, rose was always busier than him. he never complained tho, there was no point in it as it wasn’t their choice to when they had to train. chris was also guilty when it came to late practices, so it wasn’t that bad.

although she signed her contract on somewhat of a whim, it was hard to deny her love of royal, the company she had called home for almost four years. four years was a good portion of her time in south korea and while a part of her longed for australian shores and sunsets, rose was bound here. she couldn’t envision a debut without lisa or jisoo, or even the other girls for that matter. it really was them or nothing. as she gets closer to december, she becomes more certain of what choices she needs to make, and what her answers might be to them choices.
rose looks at chris, lips pursed. “what makes you think that?” rose asks, raising one of her brows as she swings back and forth on the swing gently. she feels like the royal girls are in a fairly good place right now. there haven’t been any new, sudden additions which has been good for them as they’ve been able to focus solely on their relationships within the group. they really would make a good girl group, really. rose sighs, looking down at her feet. “yeah, i … really don’t like our chances, unfortunately.” she laughs awkwardly. “i mean, royal’s got luxe and de:code right now, so i don’t think a new group’s on the table anytime soon.” it’s hard to admit that, knowing her four years might turn into six or maybe even eight. that’s a pill for rose that’s hard to swallow.
“but yeah, there’s … “ rose looks down at her hand, counting off the girls in her head. “enough of us.” she says with a curt nod and a smile. “oh, of course. can’t forget trc.” she adds with a smile. she thinks back to the time where she wanted to be in trc, the dream of being scouted by them. but since royal, she hasn’t looked back. “weird how both of our dream companies are trc, well … mine was but … y’know?”
chris can’t help but listen. he fully understand that rose has grown attached to the company, to a place she has spend so much time, with people she has trained for years. it was only natural to not want to do such a thing as debut with anyone else but those people. he could relate to it, however, he wasn’t the type of person to get close with many. on a deeper level than something surface level. rose was different however, in way too many ways he couldn’t describe.
“you never know, royal seems to always be plotting something. could be interesting to stick around instead of bouncing off to sphere.“ he can’t help but glance at his girlfriends hands, nodding his head at the answer he gets “enough is good.“ he nods his head, looking back at rose with a wide smile on his lips. sphere had the tendency to have their idols drop like flies, chris was definitely surprised that the same didn’t happen to their trainees.
“yeah, trc...“ he says with a hum, looking back in front of him and forcing the swing he was on back into motion. “i’m actually not sure anymore you know. debut and all that.“ he explains with a small shrug. “not sure how sphere is gonna feel about another boy group, kt seems to be making shit up as well, haven’t seen some of the lads in ages. royal and sphere have their own groups...“ chris pauses with a shrug “trc is pretty much the only way to debut sometime soon, but knowing trc... we're gonna wait for a while.“ he laughs, smile wide as he looks back at rose with a raised brow “plus, i like the our trainees. a lot. it would be neat if they let us debut in a band, we have the potential but...“ he purses his lips, not wanting to blame the potential new girl group sphere was forming.

truthfully, she’s not really sure what chris is complaining about. more people complain because they have nothing to do - even after years of being a trainee and having nothing to show for it. he’s been a trainee for a few months and already he’s had more opportunity than people that have come years before him. “ mm.” she muses, staring at him and waiting for him to continue.
“ clearly though, they don’t deserve the spot. you do if you were chosen for it.” sua says blandly, eyeing his guitar and the way that he’s tuning it instead of focusing on their conversation. “ shouldn’t you respect the people who didn’t get their chance and accept the opportunity graciously? otherwise, i’m sure you could tell the coaches that you don’t want to do it at all.” she wants to laugh at that. opinions and desire don’t matter much to sphere even if they boast about caring for their artists, it seems. “ maybe they’ll choose someone else.”
chris is very much aware that he shouldn’t be doing this. he should feel grateful that well, sphere wants to show him off. however, it sits somewhat unwell with him. there is only so much motivation he has for debut at the moment... it seems dumb to throw so much at him. but at the end of the day, what the fuck did he know?
“you make it sound like i don’t respect the people i train with.“ chris says, looking up at sua with a serious expression. he is already aware that there are people he trains with that are not happy at all he got these opportunities, there is that passive aggressiveness chris despises. however, this was the industry they all lived in. worked in. bleed in. “guess i’ll work harder to just prove i’m the proper choice. what do you think?“ he asks, finally finishing with the tuning and playing a proper melody, for the first time since the start of the lesson.

i’ve started working now and its a 6pm-2am job, and i have yet to fix my sleeping schedule to that. i might be a tad more busy than usual, so replies would be coming rather slow from now on. i will still try and queue stuff up, but please keep in mind that i am gonna be a busy bean qwq

Being a trainee was hard itself, but having to hide the person you love especially because you’re a trainee made things even harder. Sungmin had an added element in the fact that the person he was dating was a man. He was sure if it ever became public that he was not only gay but dating another male then Sungmin would not only lose his contract, but also his reputation. He has worked hard to separate Sungmin and Arrow, and he only hoped that his past wasn’t able to catch up to him or else he’d be screwed. He could understand and sympathise with the other trainee. He would do anything to protect Seungkwan, even if it meant giving up his dream.
Sungmin returned the smile, though his was a little less wide. He couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at the other’s words. ❝ Siblings is not a strong enough word to describe my younger sister, ❞ he replied fondly and with amusement in his tone. Choi Yena was chaotic and a troublemaker, and reminded him of himself. ❝ Do you have any siblings? ❞ Sungmin asked as he looked at the other. He didn’t know much about his fellow trainees when he thought about it. Sungmin shrugged in reply to the other. ❝ It’s possible. Or maybe they want to make sure they get their money’s worth. I doubt we’re the only ones still here. ❞
it was indeed hard to be a trainee, but when chris thought about it, almost everyone super close to him was a trainee. it was a small business, it didn’t surprise him. if anything, his closest friend was recently picked up by sphere. he couldn’t complain about it. he had regular lunch dates with rose as well. there was no way he would complain after being this lucky. the sphere boys were also lovely. chris would admit he felt blessed from time to time, but become a trainee was probably the best thing that happened to him in the past few years.
“no, and i’m hoping it stays that way.“ chris replies, without a second thought. he was aware his family was hanging on a few threads, but he couldn’t do anything about it. his parents were old enough to deal with their own shit. it wasn’t like he was close with his father even. hadn’t seen his face on anything other than a few news articles for years. “true, true.“ the aussie says, pulling his phone out of his pocket and glancing at the time “i used to stay till later than this, but my body can’t handle it. especially if i do dancing after i hit the gym in the morning. leg days are killer.“

This month’s evaluation was something he had not expected - a battle. He was excited and prepared. Having a background such as his working in the rap scene underground, Sungmin was more than accustomed to battles. These battles, however, were a little different and, he assumed, less aggressive than rap battles. Sphere’s group was small with only four boys and they were to battle TRC (which meant he could possibly meet his ex-boyfriend and he still wasn’t sure how he felt about that).
Chris’ words snapped him out of his thoughts and he shook his head to clear them. ❝ Hmm? Oh, ok, ❞ he replied, still partially in a daze. A lot had happened to him this past month or two and it had him frazzled. Still, he had to focus on their preparations, and he was thankful to Chris for distributing lines. Chris himself looked worn out and he hoped his friend was ok. ❝ Sure, I’ll take a look, ❞ he said as he took the paper. He quickly check over the lines and nodded. As long as he could rap then he was happy. ❝ Looks good. I’m sure the others would be fine with it too. I forget but is there dancing involved or just vocal? ❞
there was a good and bad side to whatever this eval was aiming at. chris wasn’t a huge fan on stuff like this, but he simply ignored the fact that it was a battle. he just planned on working on the song, train like usual and give a stunning performance. he didn’t even consider it a battle, what were they even battling for? this was just going to be about the companies and their egos. chris couldn’t care less about what sphere was expecting from them. if trc hadn’t debuted a group yet, that just meant their trainees had issues.
there is a raised brow from the aussie, however he doesn’t think much. instead he takes a few seconds to rubs his face, eyes, neck. it makes him sigh. he would kill for a massage sometime soon, but god knew he wasn’t going to book one. “we’re not dancing, i don’t think we are.” we aren’t good dancers. he thinks, but doesn’t say it “i’ll probably check with daniel and see what he thinks about it. im just worried about the arrangement.” chris sighs loudly and leans back, far enough that he falls against the ground.

sphere had been steadily keeping her busy. and if that wasn’t enough, she was keeping herself busy with personal work as well. since the project started, she rarely ate lunch at the company. it was her choice to eat out or just bring a snack and have dinner outside. so, today was one of those rare days where she chose to have lunch at the company.
it wasn’t as if she got much though, as always. her sweets were her main source of ‘food’ and she mostly pushed the food on her tray around. “oh, hey.” eunji didn’t expect anyone to sit with her but it wasn’t an unpleasant surprise. “yeah, i guess i did? i didn’t even realize it. but life is pretty good, just hectic but nothing i can’t handle. how about you?”
“isn’t sphere always hectic tho?“ chris can’t help but answer, taking a bit from his food with a shrug. it had been pretty busy for him as well, however he was yet to figure out if he liked it or not. “it’s been good, got picked for a few events in samsung. can’t say i’m anywhere as busy or stressed as you guys.” he explains.
if he was in their shoes right now, chris wouldn’t have even agreed on going through such a process for debut. it was a matter of time before they all saw if this would be a success or not. he keeps that to himself “how’s the heartz thing going on? anything exciting yet?”

what she wanted most out of independent study was quiet. working with the heartz girls during every moment of the day, as much as she was perhaps growing to enjoy their company ( a little ) became a little draining. but perhaps deciding to sit with chris was a bad idea.
aside from the guitar he’s plucking and playing almost painfully ( to her ears ), he seems stressed out by something she doesn’t quite know about. which inevitably makes sense considering her lack of presence around anyone else from sphere aside from the girls involved in the heartz project, but … she sighs, turning in her chair at the sound of chris muttering. “ what do you mean? i haven’t been around for any of the drama.” sua says in a flat voice, narrowing her eyes slightly at his tired appearance. “ though my guess is that’s probably a good thing given your expression.”
“it’s not drama, its what sphere has been giving to me lately.“ chris says, more than aware that he shouldn’t complain. however, he doesn’t think he is qualified enough to do any of the things their company slapped his name on. sure, he could help with the workshop one of the convex member had set, but at the same time.. he was only there to provide melody. that was it, it all seemed like a big waste of time. he knew a handful of people who would be better than him/
there is a light scrunch of his nose as he glances at sua, he isn’t sure. “i just don’t think i deserve anything at the moment.“ chris says, focusing his attention on tuning the guitar yet again. he planned on playing an actual song, rather than making both their ears bleed. only time would tell. “i can name a handful of people who actually deserve to be in my position right now.“
