I post sucky ass Harry Potter fan art

Okay so, yes. Going by canon, Draco/Harry makes ZERO sense, and yeah it’s toxic as fuck taking place within the book timeline. BUT if you ask most drarry shippers, they’ll tell you they’re not in it because of the canon.

For example; I love Draco/Harry for its potential. Not for what’s been written by JKR but what could potentially happen beyond it.

In book one, we meet Draco as this arrogant little brat, and it would’ve been so easy to just let him be the bad guy, like JKR intended. But I see Draco Malfoy, a privileged kid brought up to believe in bigotry and racism. I see a boy growing up, desperately trying to gain his father’s approval. He’s a child, misinformed and ignorant, yes but still just a child.

As the series progresses, we see more of Draco’s home life, his past, his struggle to be the type of man his father wants him to be. After Voldemort’s reincarnation, we see Lucius finally showing pride in his son, and Draco eats up that pride desperately. He wants to prove himself, to show that he can be useful.

In book six, we begin to see the toll it takes on him. He gets thinner, his hair isn’t as finely groomed as normal, there are bags under his eyes and his shoulders are always drawn tight. You see him trying desperately to succeed in his task, knowing that his family’s lives (his family’s, not his own; Voldemort threatened to kill Draco’s parents if he failed) all rested on the outcome of his task.

You’ll notice how often the term ‘desperate’ comes up in relation to Draco, and I honestly think he is just a desperate kid. His parents were in with the wrong crowd and brought Draco up to believe that they were right. Draco was a brilliant kid; he only ever came second to Hermione in all their exams. He was at the top of his classes.

He was also a bully. His upbringing has a hand in this, as he would’ve learned that power comes from intimidation. But he was a cruel boy. That’s why Draco/Harry wouldn’t work in the canon timeline; Draco was a prejudiced little bully and his hatred was often directed at Harry and his friends.

Draco needed time, outside of his parents’ control, to learn and change and grow. But I see that potential in him, the potential for change, for redemption. I can see Draco moving to the Continent, traveling and learning. About new cultures, different types of people, both magical and Muggle. I can see him coming home in a decade, and restoring Malfoy Manor into something bright and beautiful, like he remembers from his early childhood, before Voldemort and his Death Eaters filled it with Dark energy. I can see him working hard, finally content with himself and his life as he finally comes to terms with the fact that, yeah maybe he won’t have his father’s approval, but he has his mother’s love, and the love of his friends, and shouldn’t that be enough?

I can see him looking for Harry Potter one day, deciding what needs to be done. I can see him apologising and offering another handshake, so similar to 20 years ago when they were only small boys in a robe shop. I can see him, still tense, waiting for rejection, letting out a breath of relief when Harry’s hand meets his.

I can see them together, trying to build a friendship out of a childhood enmity. I can see Draco taking the time to personally apologise to Hermione, Ron, Ginny and Neville in private. I can see him eventually discussing international magical culture with Hermione, or telling Ginny about the time he accidentally caught the Snitch at the Quidditch World Cup (“I heard it humming by my ear so I grabbed it and everyone went mad.”) completely ruining a seven hour match.

I can see him laughing with Ron over a long forgotten prank. I can see him falling into Harry’s overstuffed armchair after dinner, telling Harry how he hates waking up so early for work but how his job is so rewarding that he doesn’t really mind.

I can see them growing together and sure, they’re nearly forty, but somehow they’ve both grown enough alone to fit together perfectly.

When I think about Draco and Harry, the antagonistic bickering in their school years is funny, but it’s not what I love about them. I love their potential, the room for change. I love to think that there’s more for them than just rivalry and bullying. This ship? I’m ride or die for it.

Ok soooo… thIS THIS THIS IS SO ACCURATE like this is why I don’t really like fics that kinda randomly start when they r at school bc it just wouldn’t have happened that way, there would be a lot of angst and whatnot before they would get and reveal feelings for each other

can we just talk about the time that Lupin was recovering from a full moon and Snape taught the DADA class and made all the students write essays on how to kill werewolves for Lupin to read when he got back I hate Snape so much it’s not funny

Lupin gets back and he feels like crap and suddenly his best friend’s son is writing an essay about how to kill him like that is so fucked up

Bear in mind that an ex-Death Eater does this to someone who was in the Order, risked his life fighting against said Death Eaters and lost his best friends to the Death Eater’s genocidal leader, for the sole purpose of screwing him over, and as far as we know he experiences no consequences whatsoever for doing so.

And if that wasn’t enough, he made them write those essays hoping some of them would realize Lupin’s a werewolf. And one did, but Hermione is a fucking DECENT HUMAN BEING and said nothing. Apparently the ‘insufferable know-it-all' can keep her mouth closed, when it’s for something important. Just like Snape didn’t do at the end of the book.

I’m getting mad, so here’s something I’ve realized while reading The Order of the Phoenix again. (Please keep in mind that my books are in Italian and some concepts might be hard to explain, I apologize for my English mistakes)

In chapter 14, when The Trio talked with Sirius, he said that two years before Dolores Umbridge had written a law against werewolves that made it almost impossible for Lupin to find a job.

Now ask yourself this question. Why two years?

What had happened two years before? During Harry’s third year? Oh, right. The Magical World had discovered that one of Hogwarts’ teachers (someone who was in constant conctat with their children) was a werewolf. Does that ring any bell?

But that’s not all! If we take a look at chapter 15, in the Daily Prophet article we can see a familiar name: Remus Lupin. In a newspaper. Where everyone can read it. “The werewolf Remus Lupin”. No wonder he couldn’t find a job! And it’s not the first time the Daily Prophet has written about him, as it’s stated in the article itself. There must have been a huge scandal when it had all come out.

So basically, when Snape decided he couldn’t bear not having what he wanted (for example, SIRIUS BLACK GETTING KISSED BY A DEMENTOR) and spilled the secret, he didn’t only tell the whole school. He didn’t only tell the kids’ parents. The told the whole Magical World.

He told the whole Magical World that a man who had kept his condition secret all his life was a werewolf.

And the Magical World responded with a law against werewolves.

So, basically, Snape didn’t only ruin Remus Lupin’s life. He ruined the life of every single werewolf in the UK.

But, you know. Bravest man I ever knew.

I know I have friends who like Snape and you’re all entitled to your opinion, but I can’t see it.  I fucking HATE Snape.  Snape was the damn monster, not Lupin.  Don’t get me started on the myriad other reasons I can’t stand the bastard.

Listen…. imagine Harry randomly telling Draco he has a nice smile. Like Draco’s laughing at something Pansy says and Harry just blurts it out before he can think about it. And everyone is just staring at Harry like he lost his damn mind because hello? You just told your enemy he has a nice smile. But the damage is done and Harry thinks to himself well, why the fuck not? So he tells Draco he should smile more often because it suits him. He prepares to spend the next week buried underneath his covers till he (hopefully) dies from self pity and embarrassment till Ron walks into their dorm frowning saying how he found the ferret in the Prefect’s bathroom smiling at the mirror like he was practicing it. And Harry might be a little in love with him.

It happened before potions class. The Slytherins and the Gryffindors were in the classroom waiting for Professor Slughorn when the door had opened and Malfoy had entered with Pansy. The two of them looked around the room, but since they were the only ones late there was only one vacant desk, right in front of the one where Harry was sitting with Ron.

         After some time of waiting, the students were getting restless and some of them were starting to suggest leaving the classroom, since the Professor was taking so long, but Harry didn’t notice any of it. Ron had been trying to talk to him for some time, but it seemed like his best friend was ignoring him, focused on something completely different.

         When he followed his best friend’s eyes, trying to understand what had him so captivated, Ron wasn’t surprised to see that his eyes had landed on Malfoy, after so much time of Harry completely obsessing over the boy he couldn’t get surprised anymore. Or that’s what he thought.

         Apparently, Harry still liked to surprise Ron and the people around him because there was no way anyone could have been prepared to what came out of his mouth, not even himself.

         “Malfoy,” Harry called.

         Malfoy had been laughing at something Pansy had said when Harry spoke and Ron watched has his smile was replaced by a frown and he turned around to gaze at Harry.

         “Potter.”

         “You have a nice smile, Malfoy,” Harry blurted out.

         Silence fell between them. Harry’s eyes widened and his hand went up to cover his mouth, looking as surprised as the others felt. Ron was surprised to see Malfoy suddenly blush and look away; it was something he didn’t think could ever happen to Malfoy. While Ron felt absolutely mortified, Pansy was just looking between them in amusement, making him wonder what was wrong with her.

         A long moment after, Harry seemed to wake from his surprise and looked at Malfoy with something Ron couldn’t exactly identify in his eyes.

         “It’s true” he shrugged. “You should do it more often.”

         If Malfoy was going to answer it didn’t happen, because right after Harry had said that the classroom’s door opened and Professor Slughorn entered, apologizing for his tardiness.

         Ron still couldn’t believe his eyes. It was one day after what happened in the potions class and Harry was acting depressed and every time they had crossed paths with Malfoy he had blushed and looked away, apparently embarrassed by what he had said.

         Now, however, it wasn’t Harry who was surprising Ron; such behaviour was expected. It was Malfoy, who Ron didn’t ever think capable of doing such thing as smile in front of a mirror like he had been just minutes ago.

         When Ron entered the dormitory, still trying to understand what was happening, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes when seeing his best friend buried in a pile of blankets, like was trying to drown in his embarrassment.

         “Harry, guess who I saw in the Prefect’s bathroom.”

         “I don’t care” Harry’s voice came muffled.

         “It was Malfoy.”

         Ron heard Harry groan and walked further in the room, pushing the blankets that were covering his friend back and looking at him while shaking his head.

         “You won’t believe what he was doing.”

         “I don’t want to know” he mumbled.

         “I think you do” Ron smirked. “He was smiling.”

         “What?” Harry’s head shot up. “Smiling?”

         “Yes, smiling… In front of the mirror, like he was practicing, or something.”

         Ron watched in surprise and amazement as a smile crept into Harry’s face and his eyes softened, an expression of fondness replacing the embarrassed one he had moments ago.

         “Seriously?”

         “Yeah.”

         “Do you think he will smile more often now?” Harry bit his lip.

         “Oh, Harry,” Ron shook his head.
