Watching Kame in Destiny made me think of him being in the Wallflower manga adaptation (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge), a manga I was obsessed with during my manga phase.

All about a goth girl fixated on being ugly with an epic collection of creepy paraphernalia who ends up living with four hot guys who’ve experienced the downside of societal look obsession from the other side. God that manga was the best crack and I want to reread it. I don’t really remember much except:

1 I loved Sunako our FL so freaking much!

2. I still remember the Machiavelli one of the boys getting the constant label “caring feminist” and this has sort of become a family joke we use to describe a specific type of dude decades after I’ve read the manga.

3. Sunako and Kyohei being the most amazing, antisocial, battle couple otp of my dreams. The amount of people they took down ahahah!

4. I really do not remember most of the shenanigans characters got to, but I do remember the episode where Sunako had to go rescue Kyohei who got kidnapped and was being auctioned to insane rich people for rape or cannibalism. When I say that manga was WILD, I meant it.

But honestly, I always loved that one for taking the “girl who thinks she’s ugly moves in with hot guys” trope and instead of “they give poor shy abused girl confidence and she embraces pastel” going for “she’s a terror and a battle axe and she and the boys embrace violence and world domination and being happy the way you are together.”

Heh.

The drama and the anime were both delightful but nowhere near as unhinged sadly. I kinda want to dig out my volumes now.

I saw this manga set on sale at a used book store a few weeks ago and it brought back such fond memories. I also don’t remember all of the details but I just loved how wacky they all were. Hmm, maybe I should do a re-read. I haven’t actually seen the jdrama!

I love it when they pair a (fictional) beautiful, mild mannered, seemingly cold and detached dude with the ability to unleash complete and utterly terrifying cold furor on that one DUMB MF who dares to insult/harm his love. XZ's preferred mode is sudmissive clingly cat malewife to the bossy, in charge, bad tempered Shen Li, but she is HIS WOMAN and HE WILL flip their dynamic without even batting a pretty eyelash to protect her dignity. He worships the dirt underneath her shoes and BECAUSE HE IS GOD, he will forbid anyone to hurt/insult her like that, YOU DUMB INSOLENT SHIT. I love it that neither of them is 'the man' or 'the woman' in the relationship. They are simply everything to each other.

Does anyone else enjoy reading Koala’s Playground not for the articles (which are fine but contain info I can find elsewhere too) but for the utterly unhinged commenters.

90% of her commenters make twitter lunatics seem like Socrates. I tend to read them in open-mouthed wonder that these people walk among us 😂😂😂

A lot of times I don’t even read the articles beyond the headline but head straight to the comments to see whatever bloodbath is going on in there and it never disappoints.

Finally, kdrama product placement proved to be successful!

I bought these because I love anything coffee flavored and because all the kdrama shilling for them cracked me up and while all that stuff about them keeping you awake is a lie (to be fair I can go to sleep after a triple espresso so perhaps not the target audience), they are freaking delicious and I have been scarfing them down!

If I do ever express interest in buying a massage chair though, pls hold me down.

It was hilarious seeing all the kdramas shilling these recently because these are my childhood candies. They’re delicious and apparently they have a big marketing budget! But yeah, no significant caffeine here 😆
