The mostly defunct Tumblr of the now TARDIS wiki official Kevin, who fled this parish during the great pornographic purge. But you never know. I might look at my notifications.

My blood is boiling that Tennant wouldn't wear Whittaker's clothes because "it'd be transphobic and the right wing would make fun of drag" but a drag performer can perform in drag as an over the top villain (possibly the Master apparently, at least people are theorizing???? Which I hate on so many levels) and that's A-OK to RTD and his followers

I think Tennant would have worn it, he’s worn more feminine outfits, I think when he read how the regen was going to go he probably didn’t even think about it as being an issue or what it symbolised.

RTD however, it was an active decision by him and makes less than no sense with everything we’ve seen since then that he’s put out. But I think he comes from a privileged position where he thinks he knows what’s right and anyone who disagrees is just a complainer sadly.

RTD stans have always had a double standard so I’m not at all surprised we are seeing that more and more now as more episodes come out that could be just as heavily critiqued as anything from the Chibnall era if not more and it just doesn’t happen. Or when someone does bring it up it gets swept under the rug.

Regarding Jinkx Monsoon's character (apparently called "The Maestro", which imo is so on the nose that I don't think she'll be the Master but a different character)...

I fully expect the character to be campy and over-the-top, but I'm wondering if she eventually becomes little more than a caricature of a villain, with no subtlety or depth.

Oh come on. Be sad about your favorite era being over, be sad about the costume (let's be real, they were never gonna, the gap between filming ends of the scene alone...), but don't make it into a social justice issue while fundamentally misunderstanding drag.

Yes. Having a major drag star vs having tabloid headlines linger over a gap year about a cis straight guy being mocked for being perceived as in drag are two extremely different situations. And having a Broadway star drag icon play a campy villain would in fact be a superb representation of drag. What are y'all even on about?

Hi, would you have a link to your old posts on why series 6 of Doctor Who is good and why the Hitler episode is good?

I've got a few asks requesting help finding old posts and ngl I don't know how they'd have been tagged or anything because this was all like a decade ago for me and I don't use Tumblr anymore for the most part. Sorry about that. It's just not stuff I've got the bandwidth to excavate right now.

Any hopes/worries for rtd2

I hope it makes me cry again. I think it's off to a really good start and making a lot of the moves I want to see. I'm thrilled that we're getting an all PoC TARDIS team next year, too, massively overdue. And I'm hoping we get some proper queer romances for the Doctor after the underdeveloped afterthought that was Thasmin.

Worries are always easier for me to voice cuz I'm the kind of person who's wired to be interested in criticism. I'm very worried that so far the writer and director slate has been hella white, especially with some clunky lines already (I can take "male-presenting Time Lord", but "range of colors" was too much, cut that). I'm also being reminded that while RTD is a very good writer, one of the best Who has ever had and a big step up from the last 5 years of the show, he's not as much my kind of Who as Moffat is and his storytelling choices don't necessarily land for me as well. I'm having to recalibrate expectations as a result and get back into his groove. (Thankfully, let's be real, it sounds like Moffat is back for this year's series and I bet that'll be the best episode).

I'm also worried that people continue not to be normal about those missteps. Already seen so many accusations of RTD fostering abusive environments, RTD being transphobic, RTD being racist, RTD being misogynistic, none of which actually line up with a single report I've heard of working with the guy (yes, Eccleston was mishandled, no, nobody else on the first run or his other shows seems to have had as negative an experience) or the lengthy history of being generally leftist and on the right side of things he's got to his name. It's gonna be another ridiculous era of discourse.

What episodes did you experience the biggest reevaluation of from your rewatch?

Mostly really middling stuff like Night Terrors. It's more impressive how much the scenes flow and dialogue sings even in a weaker episode after the Chibnall era in which that kind of basic polish just wasn't as present.

I also really grew on Time of the Doctor, which is an episode i've felt complicated about in past.

A long time ago, I used to really admire you and wished I could be respected like you. But one day, years ago, you and one of your mutuals ganged up on me just for having a silly opinion. I was in a fandom that was infamous for being toxic, but I was never one of the toxic ones. I was nobody. I still am. Yet you still felt like you should pick at me just for being associated with that group. You trotted me out in front of your many followers to mock. I left the Doctor Who fandom for a long time after that. It was such a little thing for you, you probably don’t remember it. But it was big for me. You’ll probably read this and laugh at me. Or maybe you’ll just delete it. I don’t expect an apology. Just know that you have a huge platform and your actions have big effects. I hope you’re using your popularity and success more positively now.

I don't really go here on Tumblr anymore and have no idea what incident this is referring to but I certainly am sorry about that. I try to strive to be accountable and to minimize those kinds of impacts in fandom, though it is sometimes hard to control. I've taken down posts on here and on Twitter before when people involved reached out about negative impacts on them because the last thing I want to do is cause that kind of hurt for people when arguing about freaking entertainment. I'm sorry that was the case for you and I wish I'd known that I'd had that impact on you so I could have tried to undo it. The Internet is a hard thing to control, especially with a platform, and I was very young at the time I was discoursing on here. I'm frequently bothered by how I handled a number of things, and hearing this just tells me there's more mistakes I made that I didn't know about. Wishing you well.

(Re: toxic fandom, is this about Sherlock TJLC discourse? That was a mess in so many ways. I don't think it brought out the best in anyone, myself included.)

okay if you were to pit every modern-era Doctor against each other in a fight. no holds barred. they can fight as dirty as they like. physically or mentally. just full on duking it out. who do you think would win. this is not a "who is your favorite" poll it's a "who would beat the shit out of the others most effectively" poll

9 is a self-identified "coward any day" and is too traumatized by what he's done to do more.

12 will throw hands given an opportunity and punched a racist for being mean to Bill with no hesitation. 12 will fuck up the shit that needs fucking up. Vote 12.

I am not going to lie to you. When Russell told me that we were putting a ramp in the TARDIS, I cried. I did. He actually told me about a fan who had contacted him, who was a wheelchair user, and said how much he admired Russell’s work. He said, “Even though I can’t get in the TARDIS, because it’s not wheelchair accessible, I just love it.” And Russell was like, “So, we change that instantly. We change that.” When he told me that story, that really hit me straight in the heart. I know what that will mean for the disabled community, and many disabled Whovians who haven’t had that. -Ruth Madeley

Well one time I got Steven Moffat and Paul Cornell to say River Song and Benny from the novels are wives
