saying it’s necessary to engage in critical thinking and do thorough research to stay informed about politics is not elitist. it is quite simply a necessity to understand anything with a degree of nuance and relying on social media exclusively for news only trains you to defer rather than engage with thinking about things for yourself. there are only so many shortcuts you can take before certain information becomes warped. infographics can only reasonably provide a bare minimum amount of knowledge on a given topic, just enough to tell you something exists (and even that can be misinformed), trying to relay anything more nearly always ends up being total distortion
