Summary: Cyno tells you a joke to cheer you up, momentarily forgetting you use any opportunity to flirt with him. That tends to make things a little more difficult for him. He needs to wrap up this investigation soon.

I just wanted to see Cyno with a slightly flirty reader but still somehow show that they suited each other lol. This was the result.

"There is a substance in the world that a person can hold, but the longer he holds it, the more it disappears," Cyno tells you. "What is it?"

You sit across the table from Cyno, staring back at him while your expression remains unchanged. You don't give him an answer.

He sighs before he continues. "It's ice," he says. When you don't utter a word, he gives further explanation. "The ice melts in your hand, changing back to its liquid form."

Your eyes don't move, but he raises his brow when he notices you slightly biting your lip. Perhaps you're still confused.

"It's still water, but it cannot be called ice anymore, which is why you can claim it has disappeared."

He continues to elaborate on the joke, but when he starts getting into the nuances of properties of water, you burst out into laughter.

"I'm sorry," you tell him. "I couldn't hold it in anymore."

Oh? Was this joke successful? Cyno continues to cross his arms as you attempt to calm down from your laughter.

"I didn't want to laugh. I wanted you to keep going."

"And why is that?"

"You're just really cute when you do that," you say with a grin. "Besides, I like hearing your voice."

“What does this one mean?”

You were sitting next to your -currently shirtless- boyfriend, Kazuha, tracing your finger over his inked shoulder blade, following the trail of black forming a downward triangle with wings. Always fascinated by the art on his body, you had often admired the tattoos but never really asked about them.

“Hmm, my friend Venti came up with the design for it, actually. We got drunk with a couple of friends one night and spontaneously decided to get tattoos together,” he chuckled. You could already imagine what friends he was talking about, raising a questioning eyebrow when you remembered a particularly stoic fellow. “Well, with varying degrees of enthusiasm, of course. But you know how Venti can be when he set his mind to something, especially when drunk. Besides, Xiao doesn´t hate us as much as he´d like everyone to believe.”

scaramouche could only look at you with furrowed brows with his arms crossed on his chest. “the hell is that?” he scoffed.

“a… child?” you answered unsurely with a hint of ‘isn’t-it-obvious?’ tone, hugging the frame of the little girl closer to your body.

the young man clicked his tongue in annoyance, tapping his foot impatiently on the ground. “where did you get it?”

“she spawned from the sky— for archon’s sake, i have no idea either!” you snapped back and cleared your throat after. “but really, i was looking at the stalls in the market a while ago when she suddenly held my hand and tagged along. i tried asking where her parents are but she seems to not know and i’m guessing she’s around four years old?”

he scanned the girl in your grasp and the kid stared back innocently. she turned her body to his direction and stretched out her arms.

you chuckled and walked closer to scaramouche and he reluctantly held her. “what’s your name, little one?” he inquired warily.

He’s absolutely frantic whenever he sees you cry.
The first time he did find you crying, however, he was frozen in place for several seconds after realizing that you were crying by yourself and he was debating whether it was right for him to burst in or not. Soon entering once the thought that you might’ve been harmed came to mind, now convinced that this must be because of a physical injury.
But it’s not. It seems.
When he does realize this, you had already seen him–which had taken you by a surprise.

“C-Cyno? What…” he watches with crunched brows as you hurriedly wipe your tears away, frowning deeply upon the mere sight alone, “What are you doing here? I… I thought you’re… you’re busy?”

He’ll be very guilty. Even if it clearly wasn’t his fault, he’ll feel a tug in his chest that makes him feel so–it was his fault for not being here by your side, for not noticing the tell-tale signs before your meltdown.
But he doesn’t say sorry. Because right now, all he feels is rage.
Who in the world did this to you?
Even if your problem was mostly self-related, he’d be more inclined over the fact that someone else triggered it–if it was, he’d definitely take note of that name and… well, he’ll remember it if it ever comes up again or if they appear right in front of him. They shall be held responsible the moment you shed your tears for them. He’ll definitely look into them and if he could and they disobey/ed the law, he shall make sure they will be severely and rightfully punished.
He’s not exactly the best at comforting someone… but his very first thought would be to crack a joke, And so he does.

“What is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gas that can pierce you?”

"shit," you mumble to yourself at the unintentional scratch of lead marring the design you've been working on. your hand reaches for the softened rubber to correct your mistake.

no matter how many times you run the eraser back and forth over your indecisive lines, the pencil markings won't disappear. a frustrated huff pushes past your lips as you tear the page from the sketchbook you're borrowing from mitsuya. that bit makes you feel a little guilty for wasting so much of his paper but, when you think about it, this is all because of him anyway.

the parchment pokes at your palms as you crumple the piece of paper. you toss it into the growing pile of others just like it before rubbing your eyes with the heels of your palms.

"not going well?" you register mitsuya's familiar voice immediately as he rounds the furniture you're settled on. you can feel the couch dip with his added weight. hands warmed from the steam of a shower wrap around your ankles, gently pulling your legs so that your calves are resting on his thighs.

you uncover your eyes to look at mitsuya. his lavender hair is still damp from the shower, the fluffy ends brushing the top of his bare shoulders with each rise and fall of his chest. matching, droopy eyes bore into you but the lazy smile playing at his lips makes his stare less intimidating and persuades you to share your struggles. "no, it's not. maybe you should be the one doing this."

"that wasn't the deal." mitsuya laughs, letting his fingers run down from your knee to your foot and back up. the movement is almost graceful and despite how minuscule it is, the comfort behind it is palpable. "you're supposed to design it, i'm just in charge of making it."

being roommates with xiao was interesting to say the least. when you first met him, he literally never talked to you unless he had to.
if you didn't know any better, you could've swore you were living with a ghost. the only greetings you would exchange were good mornings and good nights
after two months of this nonsense, you decided enough was enough. when you came back from your long day of classes, you confidently approached xiao's door with your chest puffed and head held high. you knock firmly, trying to hold onto your faltering confidence.
"come in." the response was muffled through the door. you slowly unlock and push it open, peaking your head in first. the room was very dark. the curtains were closed and not a single light was on. well, except the blaring bright screen of xiao's monitor that was very focused on. you assumed he was gaming; it's all he ever does.
his eyes remained focus on his gaming, paying no mind to you. "um xiao, are you busy? i can come back later." you were just about to peep your head back out before xiao stopped you. "i'm not busy. what's up?" his attention still not on you.
you inhale deeply, walking into his room and closing the door behind you. here goes nothing. "i- uh, well. here's the thing; i really hate how we never talk even though we live under the same roof! i know nothing about you, your interests, your personal life, literally nothing! and i really wanna talk to you because you seem like a cool person but you're really giving me the impression you hate me." that came out a lot faster than intended.
xiao's cheeks were flaming. he removed his headset and paused his game, turning around in his chair so he was face to face with you. "um, i'm sorry." he softly confessed, avoiding your gaze. "i don't really get along with people. but we can be friends, or uh at least try. sorry for being a douche."
you were satisfied with his response. after that day, you invited xiao out to lunch all the time to study. you guys even began having weekly movie nights!
you soon found out that xiao actually has a twitch account with two hundred thousand subscribers. he invited you to join his stream onetime and his fans went absolutely insane.
comments like "are they your s/o???" "omg who's that xiao, they're so hot wtf??" "y'all have to be dating" flooded in and xiao couldn't hide his blushing. he couldn't deny the comments assumptions, he ended up developing a little crush on you.
but he wouldn't confess anytime soon, afraid of messing up the amazing relationship you two shared. (or really because he doesn't know how to confess)

Like any other night, Angel’s Share remained restlessly alive even after the neighboring houses had dimmed their lights and sunken into deep slumbers. The torch outside was blazing, quivering every time the drunken yells from inside shook the air. Tonight, the hollering was especially loud.

“Kaeya! Kaeya! Kaeya!” Adventurers, knights and citizens alike cheered as the disheveled captain tossed his head back, downed another shot, and slammed the glass onto the sticky table. The impact sent another one falling over the edge, and one of the spectators scrambled to catch it.

“Your turn—” he hiccuped— “sweetheart.”

“Drop the name, asshole,” you slumped forward and grabbed a shot, finishing it in one gulp. The crowd erupted in awestruck cheers. One moment your head felt like it was being dragged to the bottom of the sea, and the other you were floating without gravity. Even in your state of disorientation, you refused to break eye contact with the figure in front of you.
