One of the many reasons I love Taylor Swift. (Cheesy but there’s so much hate on her new song and I just wanted to share this story. I love talking about my sister).

My sister committed suicide in November at 30 years old. She had been an alcoholic for 5+ years and couldn’t remember a time she had been sober until last June when she went to rehab and got clean. She got tickets to the Reputation Tour in NOLA in October with her best friend and was terrified because she didn’t know how to have fun sober. Y’all, she went and had the BEST time!!! She said she didn’t know it was possible to enjoy something so much without being in a haze and said it made her not scared anymore to take on the sober life. She’s always loved Taylor but this was a whole new just respect for her. Her Taylor playlist was what kept her motivated and happy and anytime she was getting anxious, she would turn it on and it would calm her down. Obviously, life happens and the last week of her life she started drinking again and we lost her. We played Shake It Off at her funeral during the slideshow and everyone was so confused to be hearing a peppy song but it’s exactly what she would’ve wanted. She would have absolutely adored Me! I’ll forever owe Taylor for giving her that experience and giving her hope for her future when she thought she didn’t have any! (This is her at the concert)

I just miss my sister. It doesn’t get better with time. Some days it is easier, and I can think about her and smile—but the days where it just really hits....it really hits.

I am lost.

My sister committed suicide in November. She prayed so hard for God to save her and take away her addiction. She had so so so many people praying for her for months. She tried SO hard. But He didn’t come through. I feel like prayers just fell on deaf ears. How do you overcome doubts in your faith when something like this happens? I pray every night He sends her back. He hasn’t.

You’re going to have a mountaintop experience where you see God and you finally know Him for who He is. But what I think church tends to do is make you feel like you’re supposed to be on fire all the time and you should always feel that. It’s not true. When you suddenly get into that valley, that really dark discouraging place, God is saying, ‘In the valley, remember the mountains. Remember when you were there with me. Remember that time you experienced Me and I was so real to you.’If just that little bit of your mountaintop experience can come into your valley period, that’s what’s going to help you to hold on. That’s what will get you through your very shakeable faith. No one ever told me this in church: but when I read the Bible, I know it’s not supposed to be an everyday rocked-out Christian life. There are days that will be rough, but just those few times in your life: remember how God spoke to you.
