note on henry and problematicness

if henry intended to “appreciate” black culture in “i’m good”, he didn’t do it very well. he needs to be aware of the fact that taking hairstyles and styling from a culture just because he thinks it looks cool without demonstrating knowledge and actual appreciation of the entire culture and its people is cultural appropriation. i know he’s apologized, and i hope he really has realized the problem. 

i personally believe that some of the rumors spreading about henry are exaggerated from truth, while others do bring up valid criticisms. acknowledge that everyone’s opinions are based upon some element of truth, but please make an effort to verify at least a few of the assumptions made by the initial poster with source material or a google search for different viewpoints. if you’re gonna bash someone, at least bash them properly. please?

(i know there are still debated boundaries between cultural appropriation vs cultural appreciation; this is the way i currently define it. feel free to discuss with me though, my views evolve with information.)

i hope henry will reflect on the impact his music and actions will have on others and continue to improve.
