Luke would so pull some eldritch force shit on missions or try to teach it and Cal and Ezra just gawk at it because “that’s not possible”

Then Luke would be like “then how am I doing it”

Meanwhile Ahsoka is chilling like “you wouldn’t believe the stuff I’ve seen this is chill in comparison, but yeah Luke no one else can do this”

ezra's starting to think he's the ken of the last (4) jedi (he is wrong he is also weird)

so in third grade I told two of my friends I could talk to horses & made up a really dramatic backstory of how I “discovered” my powers & our teacher overheard us talking about it and told the child psychologist I was seeing for insomnia issues & the child psychologist asked me about it & I was first and foremost terrified that if I admitted to the lie, this medical professional would tell my friends I made it all up

so I doubled down and insisted I could really talk to horses. I was doing major damage control. I didn’t realize you can’t just tell psychiatric professionals you have magic powers, I was 8.

so I ended up in counseling for this for an entire year until eventually I just stopped going for some reason but when I was 20 the office contacted me to tell me the psychologist was retiring & asked if I wanted a copy of my childhood records before they were filed away and eventually shredded & I said sure & went over them & discovered that she had diagnosed me with “psychotic delusions” bc I was 8 and apparently convinced her I truly thought I could talk to horses.

genuinely cannot tell if I my parents should’ve been cashing in on me as the most sought-after child actor of the era or if that psychologist was just extremely so so so bad at her job.

I also figured out I stopped seeing her because she told my parents the diagnosis and my dad was like “she’s doesn’t think she can talk to horses!!! she’s lying to you 😭😭😭😭” but she didn’t believe him

i say i was a weird-horse-girl in elementary school and you say “me too” but did it get you a psychiatric diagnosis

‼️🇵🇸 An activist, who destroyed multiple engine parts of the jets Israel uses, has been released!

🔸 Source: pal_action

More info from NRK (Norwegian media), 22. April 2024:

[...] The art student [Sørensen] has been active in the pro-Palestine movement for a long time. Following the sabotage, he's received support from the British action group Palestine Action, who published a picture of him when he was released from prison. "It's because of the horrible things that are happening in Palestine right now. It's the most fucked up thing I've ever seen in my life," Sørensen said. In November, FriFagbevegelse [Norwegian union paper] published an interview with the defense giant Lockheed Martin about the F-35 fighter jet that is being used in the war in Gaza. They are the ones who assemble the planes in the USA. "All F-35 fighters have parts made in Norway", they confirmed in an email to the newspaper. Norwegian authorities say it is forbidden to sell weapons to Israel. However, the sale of parts to the defense manufacturer Lockheed Martin, destined for the United States, is legal, because American export regulations then apply

For Europeans reading: your country, even if it has a ban on weapon exports to Israel, may similarly be aiding the genocide in Gaza "indirectly" through weapon exports to the US.

My hot take is that actually food allergies are a disability and more people need to realize that. The amount of research people with food allergies have to do when they want to go visit places but arent sure if they’ll have access to any food there is insane. Allergy friendly food is almost ALWAYS incredibly expensive in stores bc of all those fucking fad diets that like yoga instructors and middle age soccer moms make popular. And on top of the price, it is so hard to FIND! Almost evrry grocery store ive been to has a tiny ass allergy section that is almost always near empty. Plus what about people who don’t have the money to pay 10$ for a loaf of bread? You go to starbucks and non-dairy milks are like 70 cents extra? People are definitely out there buying and eating stuff that is destroying their digestive systems because they have no other choice. I am begging people to stop pretending that catering to people’s food allergies is elitist and not worth is. We need to make these options openly available.

Honestly the fad diets make it easier, not harder, to find allergy-friendly food.

My allergies/mast cell issues affect every other condition I have because they affect which medications I can even take.

Yeah. I'm actually super grateful to everybody who made gluten-free food a fad a few years ago. Thanks to them, there are so many options for me compared to what was there .... jeez. 10 years ago.

fad diets are great with one exception: current vegan trend (fine) means a lot of previously gluten free foods near are rebranded as vegan(also fine) and now they contain gluten for some reason (very bad)

Yeah :/

Whenever someone complains about gluten-free labeling, I say, did you know that yogurt was thickened with wheat starch? Would you have ever guessed that?

No one has time to make all their own food. (God save us from professional bakers who blather on about grinding their own flour. That’s like writing software in assembly language.)

No one has time to read and re-read every food label in the grocery store on the off chance the manufacturer decided to add gluten or move to a plant that processes nuts. Labeling needs clear, eye-catching warnings of the most common allergens. (Will it make people wonder why there is fucking gluten in the goddamn yogurt? That’s a corporate problem, not a consumer problem.)

People’s brains don’t “connect the dots” all the time, and it doesn’t matter why. Assigning blame doesn’t prevent tragedy. It’s far, far easier for every food manufacturer to meet labeling and safety standards than for every consumer to to be 100% vigilant All. The. Time.

My favorite [derogatory] was the time I found gluten in lemonade. They'd used barley syrup instead of corn syrup.

My favourite was soap. I'd have spotted it but it was labelled in LATIN. If I hadn't remembered Triticale being mentioned in The Trouble With Tribbles I'd have never realised.

Triticale is a hybrid grain, which is why it was written that way. It's a Latin name, yes, but it's a name. Triticale is a hybrid of wheat and rye. It's like, "Why is this 4 legged creature not called a horse?" Well, because it's a mule and not a horse. :)

I think the original point wasn't about availablity increases because of fad diets, but about how companies use them as an excuse to overcharge on what is a necessity for people with allergies.

Right, and IME, isn't the case. As more companies started making gluten-free food, the gap between the price of gluten-free food to the glutenated equivalent narrowed. Maybe what you said is the case for other allergies, but I'm seeing like... a pack of Tate's gf cookies used to cost 1.5 to 2x the price of the regular ones, but they're the same price at Target now.

GF Oreos aren't twice as expensive anymore, they're like 1.5x. I can now get Progresso soup that's reliably gluten-free & free of cross-contamination & is just... the regular soup.

So... again, in my experience, that's not true.

🤷🏻

the most infuriating thing about my allergies is that it is not a common or "deadly" allergy (even if it makes my throat swell) so it's not even labelled all the time.

Sure, in packaged foods in the shop you can find it in small print, hidden between the bolded ones with NUTS and WHEAT, but at a restaurant on the little slips of paper where they list allergens in carrot cake, they don't list carrots, because I am one of very few that will be killed by a carrot. However my allergies range from "need to go to hospital" to "mildly irritating itch" and "tightness in chest, mild nausea" And it doesnt do permanent damage like gluten has done to my celiac friend.

I still really wish that there could be a "no carrot"-fad diet to make avoiding that easier.

The burning question about "homesteading tradwive influencer vs. actual medieval farmwife" wouldn't be about who would win, but what would be the final straw that would make Kathrynn - who got married at 21, doesn't know what a chemical is, and who would have sent her children to school if she had had the chance - finally decide to beat the ever-loving shit out of Kathrynn, who got married at 21, doesn't understand what a chemical is and can't spell for shit, but still thinks she can homeschool her kids.

It wouldn't be over feminist issues. Medieval Kathrynn has no concept of "women's right to vote" - it's not like her husband has the right to vote in government matters either. It would probably be about religion. Medieval Kathrynn has no idea what "catholism" is, but she heard Modern Kathrynn talk shit about the saints and decides to toss aside the goat she was castrating and go "that's it, I'm beating your ass."

I'm pretty sure it would be vaccination, actually. Medieval Kathrynn would find out that there's an easy, safe way to keep the babies from dying of measles/mumps/smallpox and that Modern Kathrynn is CHOOSING TO NOT DO IT and would use the grave marker of her third child who passed from the pox as a bludgeon.
