Now that I think about it. I think there was more to the symbolism of the coats. I think Kim Dokja originally wanted the darker colored infinite space coat from Mass Production Maker, but he got the white one because it's what was "in stock," and I think he at least partially wanted it because he wanted to be a protagonist like Yoo Joonghyuk. And part if it is that the black/white coats now make them visual foils as well as narrative, but also the white coat kind of becomes a symbol of people manipulating the story (Han Sooyoung also gets a white coat, for example). And then if you accept this logic, then it goes deeper because the writer, reader, and protagonist pass white coats around like a hot potatoes. Technically speaking, Kim Dokja wears two white coats with infinite pocket space over the course of the series, and he loses the first one because Yoo Joonghyuk co opts it in the altered 1863rd regression where Yoo Joonghyuk splits into two avatars so that one will die while the other goes back in time. Black coat Yoo Joonghyuk dies, but white coat Yoo Joonghyuk goes on to become Secretive Plotter, a role where he finally has the power to manipulate the narrative and eventually even gets to leave the story. Han Sooyoung is also a major mover, shaker, and manipulator of ORV events, and not only does she also have a white dimensional space coat, but Han Sooyoung of regression 1863 is also the person who gives Kim Dokja her coat after his gets taken. I don't really know where I'm going with this, but it really does feel like the coats symbolize more than just the dichotomy of reader and protagonist. It feels like they also symbolize how anyone can take charge of their own destiny and become the writer of their own story
This is really cool cause i also feel like the 2 coats for three people is a pretty great device for yhk, due the three of them never being fully there/together, due to mainly the avatar skill.

And in the epilogue Han Sooyoung and Yoo Joonghuyk are the protagonists (the color thing kinda falls apart here as far as i can tell). Kim Dokja is gone.
Showing that in ORV we have three main characters but at any point in the story only two of them can wear the coats and drive the action.
