It was no use to argue. Cashmere out away the things and came to kiss Marasco full on the lips. “I wasn’t able to get anymore coal or wood for the fire. No one has been able to chop, so we need to save our rations on that.” She gave a smirk. “I know how to get warm.”

“I’d be surprised if there’s any wood left in the country after this year…we’re going to have to replant…” Oh, that cheeky smile…

“Somehow Im not even surprised, really.”

She took off her coat, revealing a sweater. “Goo, then this shouldn’t come as one either.” Cashmere winked and pulled her sweater over hear head as she walked to their fireplace and continued to strip. It was the warmest part of the house. When she got naked, Cashmere turned down the light from the gas lantern to make the room glow.

“Showoff.” Not that he really minded of course… He stayed on the couch, admiring the view from where he was. She still looked hot as all hell…and the flutter of the gas lantern (thank God Condut had fixed that damn thing) made it all the better.

She smiled from ear to ear. “Yeah well, you deserve it,” she said and giggled. “Now do you want to get warm or not?

“Rather badly, actually...shall I come to you, or do you want to come to me?” He didn’t really want to get up off the couch, but...

“Of course I did but I had to use other things. The ration card only got us so much. We needed more and if we have people over to wait out the storm, we need things.” She was tired of having this argument. It wasn’t like she was sleeping with men to get things, people just naturally did it.

“Still.” Marasco gave the door another shove, making sure it wouldn’t pop open if the snow got any higher.  “Where the hell did all of this snow come from anyway? I don’t remember the winters being this bad...3s saying its a mini-ice age, the result of burning District 12. The ash went into the sky and caused snow or some shit.”

“Who the HELL is that?” Marasco rose from the couch, the book of military tactics and historical battles falling from his face, where he’d put it after falling asleep.

“Cash? Can you see who’s at the door?”

Oh, wait. Right. She wasnt’ here…

“Im coming, Im coming…”

He rose and pulled the door open.

Cash smiled at him. The snow was deep today. “I left my keys here. I didn’t think you’d lock the damn door,” she said as she brought the groceries inside. “We need stuff to survive the storm. Just what we need after the war. Rations are scarce but I got enough to last us for a few weeks.”

“Did you at least use my ration card, or did you smooze for them like usual?” For someone who wanted to leave the Rebellion and the Games behind, she seemed rather interested in using her fame as a former victor to get what she wanted.

Not that flaunting a ration card was much better of course but...well.

"Marasco, in my office now." Kerrigan ordered staring down the young cadet.

“Yes ma’am. What’s wrong?”Well, he could think of a few things…

“Just get in my gorram office now,” she stated opening the door. She had just had a not so easy conversation with Thread’s grandfather, one of the board members that ran the school. Once the door shut she sat in her chair. “Just sit. Why do you insist on causing trouble with your squad mate?”

“I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Which one?” Thread. Obviously Thread. Who else would have complained?

“Its fine, really. It was probably better you left when you did…anti-victor sentiment started to climb about a week after you headed out. We’ve been having issues since then. Couple of people tried to kill Deejay, someone planned to kidnap Katniss and Peeta and do who knows what…no one’s mentioned you though, I think its only “rebel” victors they’re going after. Either way…you’re safer here. I’d prefer safe to close, as always.”

He took a sip of his lemonade. DAMN this stuff was good…but maybe that was cause he’d gotten use to the watered down stuff the Peacekeepers got to drink.

She debated saying anything, but it came out anyway. “Marasco, I am a fighter you know. I can handle anyrhing that comes my way. I wish you would see that,” Cashmere responded. “Besides I love you.” That part slipped out. It was supposed to be loved She sighed. “Yeah, I do.”

Ah. Well... He was silent as well, mulling her admission over, turning the cup in his hands.  “Well, that makes things both simpler and a bit more complicated. Yes, your a fighter. But I’d rather you not have to keep fighting. We all did our fair share during the Rebellion, now we should be able to live happily.

Oh sure, Marasco had OFFICIAL reasons for being in District 4, a whole list of em…a big, long, very important list. All bullshit for the most part of course, 4 didn’t need any help setting itself up. Being a Career District before things went to shit helped with that.

No. His reasoning for being here was entirely personal, though he would not admit that to himself, nor to anyone who asked, not even under serious interrigation.

It was kind of embarresing…but at the same time…natrual, he supposed.  Go live like a human, had been the final order from on high. Enjoy your new freedom.

He planned to do just that.  This was the address. Fingers crossed…he stepped up the stairs and gave a soft knock on the door of the house he had been told Cashmire had moved into.

Cashmere hated being in love with someone who was married to his job. Instead of imposing herself on Marasco, she decided to get away, move to the beach where she could swim every day. President Paylor allowed her to stay in a house there and would call when she was needed.

She was getting ready to go out for such a day, dressed in a red bikini and a sheer coverall when she heard a knock at the door. Answering it, Cashmere looked up to see Marasco standing there.

“What? How did you find me?” She asked and could hear her heart beating loudly.

“Im a Peacekeeper. Well, former…still, my job is useful for finding people.” He flashed what he hoped was a welcoming grin, but it came out looking a little bit awkward.

Still didn’t quite have that down yet, damn…well, he’d get practice in the future.

“Thought I’d stop by, see how you were doing, since I was in the neighborhood so to speak.”

“Yeah, come in,” she said and moved to let him in. Cashmere went to the kitchen. “Do you want some lemonade or something? I make it fresh. Annie taught me how.”

She reached down and got the pitcher, then got two glasses, pouring some of the drink in the glasses, handing one to him.

“It’s nice to see you.”

“Sure. Its a bit on the warm side today...does it usually get this hot in 4?” He hadn’t ever been here during the summer, just the occasional passing through during the winter months to go spy on 12, or, of course, during the march towards the north for NORTHSTAR...and the bloodied retreat.

“How is Annie by the way? Still holding up?”

“Your body, yes...but every Peacekeeper knows you need to break the SPIRIT of your charge...” Hence why Snow was dancing around that poor slut from 12.  “Then again, considering what you’re into...maybe your kinky enough as it is.”

"Merry Christmas, you big ass," Astonia stated setting a box down on Marasco's desk.
