Black Friday is such a joke nowadays. “Don’t miss out on 30% off” don’t piss me the fuck off. People used to hit each other over the head for a microwave that’s how low the prices were. People literally died. We used to be a country
i love you USPS I love you NASA i love you taxpayer funded services that actually contribute positively to society i love you libraries i love you public transport
that's cool! who's the dude just chilling there?
I’m guessing it’s the dude that got “passed over” considering he looks like a Generic Country Singer
Random country singer dude who had a hit covering her song maybe? Fast Car is not a 2023 song.
The guy is Luke Combs, who covered the song this year, and it went to #1 in the country charts
Tracy Chapman won the CMA for song of the year for it, because that award is for songwriters, and she wrote the song
@waknatious I'm tagging you since I'm adding extra info after you already saw it lol
I'm actually surprised that this cover was never discussed on Tumblr, tbh, because Luke Combs didn't change the words. He said he didn't want to make it his song... it was his favourite song as a kid, and he wanted to expose a new generation to it, but he also wanted them to know the original, so he left the lyrics the same.
So like... the #1 on country music stations featured a man singing the line "I work in the market as a checkout girl". Which like... you would never expect from country music.
But I think it was the right thing to do, because if he'd changed it, there probably would have been a lot of people who didn't realize it was a cover
it's a decent cover, too.
I like how there was a brief surge in thinkpieces over whether it was appropriate for him to cover it, and she immediately shut them down with "No, I like it and it's making me a ton of royalties, so go away".
🤌🏻
Someone said in the tags on a reblog and now I can't find it that Luke's version has transmasc vibes and I dig it.

This is Sage. A satyr druid who is kinda just tired of hearing you talk.
I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.
It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.
We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a billionaire's window every time they think of it.
I can't believe it's Current Year and motherfuckers think "trauma bonding" means "bonding over past traumas," but they still think it's a bad toxic fucked up thing. Something really fucking needs to be done about the pop-consumption of psychological abuse nomenclature. Especially given how the widespread misuse of these terms straight up results in victims being treated as though they're just regurgitating buzzwords when they correctly identify things they've gone through.
it’s ween
yall realize that forcing trans people into gender roles based on the gender they're transitioning to is still BAD, right? like gender roles don't suddenly become good when you force them on trans people in a "gender affirming way" because gender roles just suck to begin with, yknow that right?
the class war is not some hypothetical future event. class war is being waged right now, by the ruling class, against you, every single day of your life. the question is what you're going to do to fight back.
If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.
Yes, I'm doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.
Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I'm bad at tags.

TURN OFF YOUR OTHER PHONE AND DO NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN UNTIL YOU ARE ALONE AND SAFE BECAUSE THE ALARM WILL COME THROUGH AS SOON AS THAT PHONE IS POWERED ON.
AGAIN I REPEAT:
OCTOBER 4, 2023
THE ALARM WILL COME THROUGH AS SOON AS THAT PHONE IS POWERED BACK ON.
SO ONLY POWER IT BACK ON WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

If this doesn't make sense, then good news it's not for or about you but still reblog it because you never know who may need to know this.
Reblog and add more tags.
happy Saturday Morning Cartoon day! this isn't animated but as always, it has The Energy. I think this collection of flaws maybe handwaves "is evil, thinks someone being stabbed is objectively funny" but sometimes you're too close to the situation.
My hypothesis is that in like 10 years gen z is gonna have a big cult boom the way the boomers did in the 70s
It’s already happening on tik tok. There’s a fun new thing going round that’s citing common symptoms of depression and anxiety as signs you’re about to have your awakening and that you are actually an alien and the reason you don’t feel right is because you’re home sick for your own galaxy. So that’s fun.
agreed, and i don't mean this in a "haha gen z is so dumb they're gonna join a tiktok cult lmao" i mean that conditions are perfect for the formation of cults right now.
- high unemployment and a lot of underpaying, pointless jobs = people are looking for things to do with their life, a purpose
- skyrocketing cost of living = most young people will not be able to live on their own, meaning some will end up in a group living situation with people interested in recruiting them
- it's a time of great cultural and political upheaval, nothing feels real, people are desperate for meaning and human connection. cults promise that
- there is a new wave of acceptance and understanding for ways of life outside the norm, which is great! ...except for when cult leaders tell you abusive and controlling practices are just their culture, their religion, their lifestyle, their beliefs, their tradition, and if you disrespect it you are the problem
- social media influencers have already shown us how easy it is to build a cult of personality and attract people from anywhere in the world who are interested in the exact brand you are selling
- spirtuality is having a boom, as are things like astrology, crystals, tarot, meditation, energy... those things aren't bad on their own but they are often used as tools of cult spaces
- wellness. i think a lot of people are already in wellness cults. you can make people do a lot of things in the name of "wellness" and a big factor of maintaining a cult is keeping members in a state of decreased cognition..... like say, with regular fasting
- i think people are just unaware in general of how cults function, especially because the satanic panic was a big stupid false alarm that convinced the youths that dungeons and dragons or doom were gateways to cults, which are scary evil child murdering, satan-worshipping gangs. people don't know how to spot them in real life.
[ID: Spongebob wrestling meme format. Buff Patrick labeled "predatory cult" flexes and growls in a wrestling ring at a stern, buff Spongebob labeled "my intelligence". In his corner Mr Crabs is labeled "my education". Final panel shows Patrick and whistling Spongebob walking out hand-in-hand, both labeled "rationalizing why this isn't really a cult" /ID]
(This is actually more relevant here than standalone.)
Our popular media has tended to portray people in cults as ignorant or as losers when that’s really not how they work. Cults don’t want dead weight they have to support; they want talented, clever, energetic people they can exploit to siphon wealth and labor out of.
Some are religious, but some are political. You find yourself moving into a house full of Maoist revolutionaries because capitalism really is that awful and ecological collapse is imminent—but for some reason, the leader of the self-crit sessions is also the person everyone else in the house is in a polyamorous relationship with, and they can’t see anyone else outside of the house without her approval. Or you need a little extra money and you get told you’d be so good at selling Keto products. You’re a natural, and after you get through these first tough months, the leg under you will be developed enough you only have to work if you wanna hit bigger goals. Etc.
Loneliness, a lack of purpose, and desperation all make you susceptible to cults no matter how smart you are. In fact, your very clever brain is also extremely capable of redirecting your thoughts away from realizing you’re being exploited and abused because, after all, you’re not some idiot, are you?
We’ve got a ton of very clever young people fully aware that they’re going to have to suffer through decisions of the selfish dead, and they’re going to crave salvation of all different kinds because the future is going to suck, and it won’t have been their fault, and they won’t be able to do anything to stop it.
Yes, such a claim makes him look like a small-minded piece of shit. To us. But we still shouldn't help Musk create revisionist history.
Musk bought Twitter because he fucked around and found out. He wanted to fuck with Twitter's stock price by feigning interest in buying it. Since that's illegal, he was then cornered into actually buying it for an insanely inflated price.
He's a transphobe. He's a bad father. But he's also a fucking idiot.
This. Please remember that he committed blatant market manipulation by not disclosing that he owned shares of Twitter when he was fucking with the stock market. The SEC was watching him very closely already, and so when the cost became more than what the entire company was worth, he had no choice. Remember when he had his gaggle of lawyers try to get him out of it by saying Twitter didn't disclose all of the information? That wasn't Twitter, it was him trying desperately to get out of a purchase he didn't want in the first place.
We need to normalize murdering rich people again
still thinking about the brainrot that fast fashion has caused in people, like i made this pair of pants that are black and white with a cool flowery design, and an acquaintance saw them and said "wow i'd pay like 20 dollars for you to make me a pair" and i could barely think with how utterly horrified i was at that; i told them that 20 dollars wouldn't even cover the materials, let alone the hours of work that went into cutting, sewing, ironing, hemming, altering, etc. they just had this look on their face when i told them that, when i said i wouldn't make them a pair for even 100 dollars because that was still way too low of an amount, a look that said "you're crazy for thinking that those cost 100 dollars" and maybe i am crazy but holy shit, 20 dollars for a pair of handmade, durable, lined pants fitted specifically to your measurements? 20 dollars for upwards of 60 hours of work? 20 dollars for several yards of high-quality fabric, thread, and buttons? 20 dollars???
This isn't just a problem caused by fast fashion.
I've been sewing for 30 years, and when people would find out I could sew would ask like "If I bring you a pattern and some fabric will you make me something?" And of course I'd say no.
I told so many people I wouldn't sew them stuff, and they'd ask "well how much do you charge?" and like I am not a bespoke tailor, my guy. I am not making anything for you.
I mean I will alter stuff if it's a simple alteration and it's a Cool Friend who like buys me coffee sometimes cause Friendship is Magic. But also... No.
