Rest in peace Reita 🕊️

Since the news of your passing I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything, but today I somehow found the strength to pay my respects to you. I’ve been following the GazettE since I was a teenager and I can say that this band had a huge influence on the person I am today, especially Reita. His style, personality, music and passion for his work gave me daily inspiration to create my art and immerse myself in what I enjoyed most. I remember the first time I went to a live show by the band and I couldn’t stop crying during the entire performance and when you interacted with me at that show it was simply unforgettable. I’m grateful that you were part of my life, I’ll remember you forever, keep rocking up there 🤘

Let’s close our eyes at lives from now on, keep images of Reita in our minds, and love the GazettE from the bottoms of our hearts. If we do that, I’m sure we’ll be able to feel the heat of Reita’s soul. And for as long as the lives last, in those precious moments, we’ll be together again. Seeing the same beautiful scenery. All 6 of us.

I keep reading REITA’s tweet over and over and over again. I’m sure I’m just overthinking things, but the phrasing is similar to the last verse of UNFINISHED.

REITA’s final words were “the GazettEは永遠であってほしいと願う” (“I hope the GazettE lasts until eternity”). He uses 永遠 (eien) for eternity and 願う (negau) for hope/pray/wish.

The last verse of UNFINISHED is “辿り着くまで永遠に / 強く願うよ　君と向かう未来を / それは変わる事のない / 俺の生きる理由が君であるよう” (“Until we reach eternity / My deepest hope Is to keep heading toward the future with you / That will never change / Because you’re my reason for living”). This versus also uses 永遠 (eien) for eternity and 願う (negau) for hope.

I don’t even know what I’m trying to say here. I’m just struggling to understand how he could be gone.

I created this illustration in honor of Reita—the bassist of one of my favorite bands of all time—who sadly passed away a week ago. Being a fan of the GazettE for over 15 years now fills me with a pride I could never put into words. This band has been with me through my most difficult times and Reita has always been a source of comfort, excitement, tears, and laughter for me.

I feel so blessed that I had the opportunity to see them live in 2016, shake Reita’s and the rest of the members’ hands, and tell Reita how thankful I am for everything they’ve done for me face-to-face. Your memory will live on for an eternity, Reita 🩵 Fly high, our precious rocker. You’re the best bassist in the world and the GazettE, the imprint you’ve left on the rock community, and your spirit will never die 🤟🏻
