Memories of Fear is Retiring

We at Memories of Fear have decided that we will be retiring our fan translation group as of February 23rd, 2021.

KulaRose (Translator) and enigmaopoeia (Editor) had started this group back in April 2012 due to their love for the game, Corpse Party for the PlayStation Portable. Our original plan was to translate Japanese Corpse Party fan games as shown with our first release being CORPSE-PARTY -Rebuilt-. However , our love for role-playing adventure games, both horror and otherwise, made us extend our scope to the translation of other games created in RPG Maker and Wolf RPG Editor. Our dedicated QA tester, Ajogamer, was also a big part of this. He joined the group on our very first project and has been with us ever since.

With about 30 games released under our group’s name, we have decided that it is time for us to move on. While we greatly enjoyed our time working together as a group and delivering these games to an English-speaking audience, the time feels right to retire. Especially now that we have more responsibilities that came into our lives as we've gotten older, such as our full-time jobs, families to take care of, and busy schedules, which has limited our ability to focus on translation work as much as we previously did.

We want to thank everyone for their support over these past 8 years! We'd also like to thank everyone for taking time out of your schedules to play, stream, and share our translations!

===============================================

Here is some questions and answers we would like to address:

Q: Did drama play a part in your group's decision to retire? A: No, not at all! Not only was the decision a mutual agreement that we carefully discussed, but we're all close friends who plan to remain as such for many years to come!

Q: Does that mean that —Purgatory 2— by Nama (as well as —Purgatory 2— Demonic Mode) is your final translation? A: Yes, that is correct. We are happy we were able to go out with a big bang with —Purgatory 2—, as it’s a game we all loved and enjoyed working on.

Q: What will happen to your website? A: Our previous website (memoriesoffear[dot]com) will be closed down at the end of February 2021. We will now be hosting our games over at our Memories of Fear forum at https://memoriesoffear.jcink.net

Q: What will happen to your Tumblr and Twitter? A: They will both stay open for posterity's sake, but they will have little to no activity. However, we will still try to answer any questions relating directly to our projects to the extent we are able.

Q: What will happen to your Discord? A: It will also stay open for those who want to talk about our games.

Q: If I have a question/comment/concern about one of your translations, where do I submit it to? A: You can submit it to our Discord on our “#-report-problems” channel.

Q: If a future sequel/continuation/spin-off gets released for one of the games you had provided translations for in the past, would you be able to translate it? A: Unfortunately, we will not be able to translate those titles. We welcome anyone to translate these games in lieu of us.

===============================================

Thank you for supporting us throughout these years! Sincerely, Memories of Fear KulaRose (Translator), enigmaopoeia (Editor), and Ajogamer (QA Tester)

If I were to create a mod/remake of Corpse Party Rebuilt, can I use your translation in it, or do you want me to paraphrase the text?

Yes, you can use our English translation in your own mod/remake for Corpse Party Rebuilt! Or you can even rewrite the text to suit your game, like how Zwataketa did for his own mod called Corpse Party ~Rebirth~: https://zwataketa.itch.io/cprebirth Good luck on your project and please let us know about it when you're finished!

Purgatory X (奈落X) hasn't been released yet.

I would keep an eye on Nama's (the developer) Twitter for any updates regarding their games:

Thank you for everything guys. Honestly, been kinda hard to hear how many Japanese fan translation RPG games/groups have been dying, but I’m so grateful for how long you guys have stuck around. I’m glad you’re keeping the games up on the forums at least. Thank you, THANK YOU for all you’ve done. I hope the rest of your lives are fulfilling!
