The Commander opened his mouth to say something, but stopped himself with a grimace. “Okay, that’s certainly a first.” He looked back down to the papers on his desk and began to shuffle them around. “I’ll give you the same courtesy you’ve given me, and I’ll be blunt. I don’t think you’re wrong. Well, about something. Something is up with our supplies and resources being practically funneled out of the city, I wouldn’t think a coup, thou-” As the Commander looked back up, he finally realized who Erin was. “Hey, weren’t you...”

The guard scoffed, almost offended. “And what if I don’t? You’d have to take your leave and be done with it. Unless you’re gonna tell me the town’s going to be caked in fire, then you...you’d best....” The guards speech slowed as he looked back over to Luciro, who was giving him a look that practically said ‘that’s exactly what we’re going to tell you’. The guard, now presented with the option of telling them to fuck off and risk the town being destroyed, or let them in and have a better chance of it not getting destroyed, chose the latter. “Hanson, see if the commander is free.” He spoke clearly, like he had not just mocked their possibly extremely important news.

The other guard, Hanson presumably, went through the doors, and the first guard returned to his military stance. He stared straight forward, practically ignoring the two. He was probably figuring how embarrassed he should be, if at all. Luciro looked back to Erin, hopeful.

After a while, the guard returned. “He’s wrapping up some other business, he’ll see you two briefly. Do either of you have weapons on you?” He asked as a formality, clearly implying that they should hand them over, or be searched. Luciro hissed at the guard. “We keep out weapons. Lest it happens while we’re here.” He spoke as if the doom was impending, which, for all he knew, it was. The guards looked at each other with a half shrug, and let the pair enter.

Luciro and Erin were escorted by another, different guard down the hall. It was a modest size with red walls and periodic sconces. The guard led them quietly to one of the doors, and opened it for them. As the two walked in, they saw the commander sitting behind the desk. He looked up from his writings, and squinted a little. “To be fair, I was expecting someone more...important? Qualified? None the matter, what’s this information I must hear?”

Ooc;; Hope the oldies are happy for the last 5-10 years they have here on Earth before they fuck off and leave the rest of us to pick up the tatters of their misinformed decision. Thanks.

Now stop the planet. I want to get off.

If a giant meteor could just land in the Atlantic and take us both out, that’d be nice.

Luciro nodded heartily in agreement. “A plan, then. Onwards.” He spoke with a less than hidden tinge of excitement as they headed towards the ‘capitol building’. While it was certainly larger than most buildings in the city, it didn’t have any form of grandeur about it besides the fine masonry. “Oh, and if something goes wrong, we should split up.” He suggested, tucking his katar away under his clothes best he could.

“Now, be ready for anything. I’ll follow your lead on any more lies we have to tell.” Luciro rolled his shoulders, giving himself a slight slouch, and began looking more worried. He walked through the courtyard, no gates this time, and towards the door. There were a normal amount of guards stationed around. Two at the door, one at each corner of the courtyard, which itself wasn’t very big.

“What’s your business?” Boomed one of the guards as they approached. “I...ah, the commander. I know something he needs to know.” Luciro spoke in a higher, slightly wispy voice. While he wanted to scream that the town was in danger, it would only hurt his cause more unless he explained it gradually. Both of the men looked at him with skepticism, and then up to Erin, noticing his much more impressive outfit. “You! You brought him here? You know what he has to say then? Out with it.”

**With a bow and arrow, Luciro can be pretty slow, but is accurate. Typically would use one to cripple someone/a group from afar before a fight.

***Tool assisted only.

****Wtf is a magic robot trick?

Tagging: Anyone who wants to. I think I’ve already seen all of my mutuals do this lol

“Not exactly.” Luciro spoke as he examined the man. “You clean up nicely, by the way. I’d imagine it’d take a while for the Commander to even recognize you.” Which, more or less, could help them. “Ideally, we can tell more truths than lies. Any lies we do tell need to come from a stem of truth, at that point.” He was much less suggesting, and more explaining like a professor. “Let’s say we met each other yesterday, as you are a mercenary, we can say you were escorting a caravan from whatever the closest town is,” He gave a brief pause for Erin to fill the gap, as Luciro had no clue as to what the closest towns were. “and as we arrived, I asked you the best person to voice my concerns to, and you took me to the commander. Now, we won’t have to talk about that unless he asks us about it, that’s just so we are both on the same page in that manner. Here’s what’s important.” Luciro always found it necessary to to set themselves up properly first. “We upon the conversation cautiously, I’ll start with my suspicions, having ‘seen our town’s armory double’, and then you’ll ask about any impending threats that may take the nearby towns. Depending on how it goes from there, we can either present our theory about a coup, or present these.” He held up torn out pages from the ledger. “I’d wager Halin hasn’t told anyone about the break out. That alone would bring suspicion on him.” In hindsight, this was all a wager. The commander could just not see them. “If that’s all in order, lead the way.”

“Hopefully we’re not too late” the half-blood sighed. He could sense the urgency and hastened his pace back to the inn, mentally going over what he needed to find.

“I won’t need long” Erin replied after a small pause. If they were going to try and win over the commander, then he should probably make himself a little more presentable. Anything to help break the stereotype of ‘savage wildlander’. It shouldn’t be that difficult a task. Certainly not hour long affair; he likely had one of the most limited wardrobes in the city. “Half an hour enough for y’?”

"Should be." Luciro nodded, and before he realize it, he had left without a slight of a goodbye.

Getting the clothes should be simple enough. Merchants are awfully thankful when you hand them a handful of coins for some scrappy clothing. As for getting his blade in there, Luciro felt out luck. Trying to get any of his friends in there in addition to the two of them would be too much hassle. Taking it on his body wouldn't fit his commoner look. The way he saw it, he only had one option.

As he waited, Luciro took stock of the information they had, and whether or not they should try to expose Halin now, or later once they found some proof. If the commander was at least somewhat cooperative, and the two of them charming, then maybe the commander could actually be a valuable asset. If not, then the duo would probably have to do some more sleuthing.

“Clever.” Was all he replied, thinking. Clearly, someone had to lose his job for Halin to become the North guard captain, so he would probably be more helpful, but he could have died, retired, moved away, or even bribed to be quie- his train of thought cut itself off. “Erin, the sheep to the marshland, while I hope nobody would be that dumb, why would Halin have to sign off on that?”

“It’s a long shot, but maybe he didn’t actually send sheep, per say. If the man before Halin was onto something, Halin would want him away and quiet, yes?” Luciro was excited, it could be what had really happened, but more than likely… “No, it’s just conjecture. Without any more information, we can’t afford to leave the city for it to be sieged by Halin’s outside forces.” Luciro thought for another moment, suggesting something else. “The commander doesn’t know me yet, and maybe if we’re lucky, the guards didn’t have enough time to get a good description of us. Maybe if you take me to him, as a sign of goodwill or some bullshit, I can claim to be a person from a nearby town, explaining that I saw some of the equipment and was worried for this town. Judging by how he reacts, we can work from there.” It was also a slightly outlandish idea, as Luciro had a knack for, but if they execute it right, and if they were lucky, they might be able to get away safely, and possibly gain the commander as an ally.

Maybe the half-elf had more of a knack for this than he’d originally thought? He took Luciro’s comment as a compliment, a faint smile flickering across his face. Maybe it was due to the fairy-tales his mother read to him, the books his grandfather would force him to read or just from hanging around random mercenaries and labourers for the past 5 or so years.

“I hope not” Erin scoffed. But if not some idiot buying sheep, what else would you do on a godforsaken marsh? With a sigh, he shook his head. There was no point in speculating; they’d be there all day. Though going to the commander wasn’t really something he was all that keen on either.

“Guess we could hope that daddy ain’t too happy with his little get causing a mess-up at the tavern” Erin replied. There was no alternative plan that came to mind, sadly. “Maybe I can put together somethin’ as an apology as well, just in case. One a the traders from High Vale gave some jewellery as payment ‘cause he didn’t have the coin. Might be something in there f’ the bride, or his wife”. Or himself, if that was what the commander was into.

“I think that’d be best.” Luciro offered, thinking forward on the plan. Perhaps it would end up being viable. As it was, the town was getting more stressed, and perhaps the commander would be more open minded to a concerned citizen. “Alright, start getting that in order. The sooner we act, the better at this rate.”

Luciro himself had to find some scrappy clothing, and some way to sneak his weapon with him. “We’ll meet up later today, near the center of town. how long do you think it will take to complete your preparations?”
