every time someone says bush was smarter or a better politician or more respectable than trump i lose my mind. it feels like everyone collectively blocked bushisms from their memory

people had coffee table books and playing cards and drink coasters and everything you can imagine with bushisms printed on them. bush was widely regarded as a complete fucking idiot. a terrible politician both via malevolence and incompetence. and now people have made this whole fake history of the bush administration where he was some sort of well-meaning grandpa so they can compare him to the current administration and pretend trump is Uniquely terrible

the replies to this post are driving me INSANE how can so many people miss the point so bad. “yeah bush was terrible but trump cant even meet the bar set by bush!!” they are THE SAME BAR. THE SAME. the only reason you think bush was better is because of the distance of time and/or the fact that you/your family was privileged enough not to feel even the ripples of the horrors bush inflicted domestically and internationally. you are looking for the easy way out by pretending that the single man currently in office is the cause of the current situation and that things will be “normal” again if he’s voted out. what will you do if he’s voted out? people will still be dying at the hands of white supremacists, or of hypothermia because theyre unhoused, or of treatable diseases because they cant afford medicine. will you actually do anything to help them or will you go back to ‘normal’ life because at least the Cheeto Man is out of office? and what will you do if he’s not voted out? will you actually do something to help people then or will you blame the people who are suffering the most for not voting hard enough? surely the next election will be different

calm down edgelords, the whole point of society is that it’s not survival of the fittest. literally the point is that we’re leveraging our collective strengths to lead to better outcomes for everyone. we’ve been doing it for a couple thousand years now

And if I could butt in as an evolutionary biology student, “survival of the fittest” is CONSTANTLY misinterpreted anyway! It was never supposed to mean “survival of the strongest/fastest/healthiest/best”. The original phrasing used by Darwin himself is actually “survival of the most fit”, meaning that the individuals who were the most suited for their environment tended to be the ones that went on to reproduce.

And in a rapidly changing environment spread out across every biome of the entire planet? Our best chance for survival is diversity. Having lots and lots of variation of genes and experiences and abilities makes us EXTREMELY versatile and adaptable as a species, which is part of why we’ve been able to make such a huge impact all this time.

So yes, society means we don’t HAVE to follow biological systems of survival, but even if we DID our best chance is STILL to have a diverse and varied population.

So eugenics and social Darwinism isn’t just cruel and inhumane, it’s also just fundementally wrong. Having a population of just the “fittest” individuals is far more likely to lead to our destruction as a species than edgy “survival of the fittest” people seem to think it will.

These two are singing “O magnum mysterium” by Tomas Luis De Victoria! It’s a very pretty piece from the renaissance that has a lot of different voice parts singing totally different melodies that mesh well together. I sung tenor for a song of his as well. It sounds ethereal in cathedrals and bathrooms alike my opinion. Its the room’s ability to bounce sound and make it resonate, giving it it’s “mermaid siren” like quality. It sounds great. Congratulations, you both! Sounds very pretty and seems like a fun time to clean with things like that.
