Sooo… I’ve been reading quite a lot of fix-it fics for the s8 ending, lately. You know, the one we don’t talk about. And I’ve noticed that it’s almost always Shiro who distances himself from everyone else, especially Keith and/or marries Curtis in spite of his feelings because he thinks Keith deserves better or it’s better to be with someone who wasn’t so involved in the war, I don’t know. So I kinda wanted to turn this thing around a bit: what if it was actually Keith who started ghosting everyone, including Shiro, after the war ended and ran off into space, because he’s too damn afraid to tell Shiro how he feels. This goes on for about a year until Shiro catches him in his shack right before he’s off to leave earth again and confronts him about the bs he’s pulling, since Shiro kinda thought they’d be a thing after the war. It ends in fighting, Keith denying everything and pushing him away and Shiro storms off, his departing words something along the lines of “if that’s what you want, then fine. I won’t stop you. But don’t expect me to be there when you get back.”Just. Like. Adam. Did. All those years ago. But he can’t help it. He’s angry and confused and heartbroken. They both are. In the next few years they barely talk and at some point Shiro gets married to Curtis, because that’s how people get over the love of their life and move on, right? Right?? But it only takes a short message from Keith after years of silence… And of course Shiro replies in an instant. Because he still cared for Keith, no matter what happened. And that’s where the fix-it part begins :)
