Me: *remembers Han responding to Leia’s “I love you” with “I know” not because he wasn’t ready to say the words but because he had already shown and probably even told her he loved her and by telling her he knew that she loved him he was acknowledging the fact that Leia was willing to overcome her fear of abandonment in front of literal strangers to make sure Han knew he wasn’t alone and that she would try to find him*

At some point in my life I read Star Wars meta that essentially said “Han says ‘I know’ in Empire Strikes Back because he told Leia he loved her FIRST, and she needed a bit more time to come to terms with her feelings.” and honestly it changed my life I live for hardened smuggler Han Solo being head over heels for strong headed princess/general Leia Organa, and telling her in so many words and then being patient to hear them back it’s one of my favourite headcanons for anything

I know.

Can we take a second to talk about the I love you. I know. interchange in Empire?

I get in a lot of arguments with my guy friends about this. Bless them - I mean really - because they think they are being progressive. And its actually kind of heart warming to see. But, usually, the people who think Han is an asshole for saying I know instead of I love you, too chalk his behavior up to some kind of toxic masculinity. Han won’t say he loves her because he refuses to be vulnerable. Han is too arrogant to admit he has a weakness. Han is aggressive. Han is downright cruel at times.

And… okay. I guess I can see where they’re coming from. But, to me, that is a really shallow interpretation of his character.

I guess what I, and I think many people who ship Han/Leia, see in that interchange is that Han’s response isn’t motivated by his own feelings. His response has nothing to do with what’s he’s thinking or how he feels.

It’s about validating how Leia feels.

Which, honesty, I think she needed more at that moment than a mirrored declaration.

Leia sacrifices everything for the cause. Her strength to put the rebellion before her personal interest is incredible. It’s her defining characteristic. It’s what we all know and love about her.

It’s also what she knows and loves about herself. By Empire, Leia has lost almost everything of any personal value to her. She’s lost her family. Her home. Her friends. Her position in the Senate. All she has is her own sense of identity. The only thing she can use to define herself anymore is her core values.

Can you imagine how difficult it would be to let anything compromise that?

Admitting that she has feelings for Han would be admitting that she has room in her heart for anything other than the cause. It would be admitting that her life is not solely defined by the rebellion that her family died for. It would be admitting that behind her emotionless, rational, militaristic persona is actually just a twenty-two year old girl with feelings, longings, and desires that are entirely selfish.

Han knows this about her.

Ultimately, it’s why Leia loves him. Because even Luke, her own twin with whom she shares a connection in the force, at times fails to see her as anything other than the princess.

But somehow this dirty, cocky, smart ass, nerf herder is the one person who has ever managed to look into her soul and see past every single wall she has built around herself.

Han knows her. She has never had to tell him anything. She has never had to pour her heart out to him. She has never had to make herself vulnerable in front of him. And yet, he still knows.

I guess many people see that scene and they see a cocky smart ass being clever and evasive instead of sincere when he says I know

But that’s not what his eyes say.

His eyes say…

I know you love me.

I’ve known you love me for a long time.

It hasn’t scared me away.

It hasn’t made me think less of you.

It hasn’t made me see you as weak.

You’ve screamed at me, hit me, threatened me, insulted me, and done everything to push me away, but I still know that you love me.

And I know you know that I love you, too.

Because it’s taken an invasion of a base, a broken down hyperdrive, a giant cave dwelling slug monster, Boba Fett, a carbonite chamber, and Darth fucking Vader himself to actually make me leave you.

And I know that you will do everything in your power to bring me back.

Male/Male Shipping in The Sons of Anarchy fandom: Why it is Not Appropriate

Alright, alright. I’d like to start off by saying that I am not against same sex shipping/couples. As a pansexual myself and having several muses that are the same, I’m not bashing on same sex shipping/couples.

Now on to the main purpose of this post. Male/Male shipping in the Sons of Anarchy fandom and why it is not appropriate. I have mostly seen pairings of Chibs/Juice since being apart of this fandom. And I am going to nip this in the bud right now; Tig and Venus are not included in this rant/post. Venus is a transgender woman. So therefore, Tig and Venus are a M/TW ship. Back to the others. If anyone was really educated with biker gangs and SAMCRO, they would have noticed that homosexuality is against the code. It’s up there with no blacks, Hispanics, or women joining the club.

If Chibs/Juice were canon—which it never would be—they would either be 1.) Kicked out and shunned or 2.) Killed. Simple as that and those would be the only two options.

“But Juice has sex in prison with a man!”

Wrong-o. Juice gets raped and it is a form of punishment for being disloyal to Jax and the club. And if you paid attention to the scenes, he’s not enjoying himself nor is he giving consent.

“They clearly love each other! They kiss each other’s cheeks!”

Yes and yes. But what you and most others are failing to comprehend is that it is a brotherly love. Nothing more. You are taking things out of context. And here is a list of reasons why you would!

  1. You like to sexualize homosexuality
  2. You just want to see two guys fuck
  3. You don’t respect the characters and or what is canon

I would also like to point out that neither man—Chibs and Juice—has shown or hinted in romantically loving each other or another man. So yes, the shipping of m/m in this fandom is inappropriate and goes against the show and Sutter’s writing/plot/vision.

I hate to be this guy but…

Eggs and bacon you’re mistaken.

I’m going to skip the point about Tig/Venus for a moment to point out something else you said in the first paragraph:

If anyone was really educated with biker gangs and SAMCRO, they would have noticed that homosexuality is against the code. It’s up there with no blacks, Hispanics, or women joining the club.

Let me put this simply: just because there is a racist, outdated bylaw doesn’t mean the members of the club share that mentality.

Case(s) in point: Happy is Mexican. Juice is Puerto Rican. Montez is…not white (*shrug* they haven’t said). Also there was Armando, PRESIDENT of the Tucson charter. So, yeah. I guess they aren’t super strict with the “no ‘Hispanics’” rule.

Second: Jax, who is in many ways a despicable human being and indulges in the casual racism so very common on this show, asked the other presidents to change said bylaw so that they could patch over the Grim Bastards. (side note: we can discuss this show’s unfortunate tendency toward White Savior-style plotlines another day; my point is about the bylaws as written vs. in practice)

Third: Never. Has anyone. At any point. Misgendered Venus. Yes, Bobby made that joke about her having a penis, but no one has ever called her “he” or “it” or (worse) “he/she/it whatever!” They’ve been very respectful of her. And I can guarantee that these guys aren’t exactly down with transgender rights and the importance of using the correct pronouns and etc.

So why? I don’t know. They have a measure of respect for her as a human being? Sure…but also it could be that yeah, they’re members of an organization with racist/homophobic/sexist rules, but they’re intelligent enough to realize those rules are outdated and should be changed. What did Jax say when he found out about Juice’s dad? “Maybe it’s time we changed a few bylaws.” And Bobby (old guard, remember) and Chibs agreed with him.

Now. As you pointed out, Venus is a transgender woman, and their relationship is m/tw. But if these guys are as homophobic as you’re painting them (Mayhem vote for fucking a dude?!?!), I seriously doubt they’d see the distinction, AND I doubt they’d be so accepting of it. Chibs even encouraged Tig to defend Venus when that racist asshole made that comment about her and Tig.

I think you’re deeply wrong when you say pairing two men of the club is showing a lack of respect for the characters. These are men who lead extremely dangerous lives, and as much as they might love a woman (Jax and Tara springs to mind), the club somehow always comes first. Another member of the club is the only one who really can understand what that’s like. To form a connection that goes beyond friendship isn’t hugely different than soldiers connecting that way in wartime. (which I could write a whole other essay on, e.g.: Greek/Spartan tradition…etc. but I digress.)

Um. Also. Can I just point out how homophobic that statement is in and of itself? “Implying this man has homosexual feelings for another man is DISRESPECTFUL to him!! Because being gay/bi/pan/something other than straight is LESS MANLY.” Or, I don’t know. Shameful? Wrong? What word would you use, since it was your point?

Look. If you want to exist in your strange heteronormative bubble where a group of people this size is entirely 100% straight, then sure. Go ahead. But maybe recognize that the problem here isn’t the people who think otherwise; it’s you. It’s you for having an issue with what other people ship. It’s you for assuming that these men are so small and narrow-minded that they would react as negatively as you’ve stated. According to your definition, despite your self-serving disclaimer, by all rights they should have stripped Tig of his patch and held a Mayhem vote because of his relationship with Venus.

They didn’t. They blinked. Blinked again. And went on with life.

They’re bastards, but they’re not always fucking bastards.

In other news:

  1. It’s just fanfic chill the fuck out.
  2. Sutter’s vision. Really? Really? We’re gonna go there? Casual racism; constant misogyny; rape as plot device; gratuitous violence; total lack of consistency with characterization; self indulgent storylines; lack of respect for his characters (way more than any fuckin fanfic, yo); and, of course, gleeful delight in being a total asshole to the people who love this show and made it a success in the first place.
  3. It’s funny that I can deconstruct this argument point by point when it comes to racism and homophobia within the club’s bylaws vs. racism and homophobia amongst actual club members, but I can’t do the same with sexism. That, my fellow SoA fans, is an example of Kurt Sutter’s fucking vision.

Point being, Sutter and his precious vision can go fuck themselves. Bring on the fanfic!!

I love you so much @stupidscalptattoos I think I would like to marry you or otherwise form an appropriate consenting relationship of some kind with you. Friendship is included! Thank you so much!

How about we ship and let ship and if you don’t like it….don’t read it.

i hope OP knows that motorcycle gangs were started by gay people soooooooo for the sake of the show im pretty sure half of samcro was gay as hell?

oh btw Sons of Anarchy is a fanfiction of Hamlet so yeah theres literally no reason to point out Kurts “vision” when literally it was someone else’s idea to begin with….

The more reserved a Taurus is on the outside, the crazier they are on the inside. Once you get to know them, you’ll be surprised by how much they like to joke, their sarcasm, and even their spontaneity. It’s very rare that a person (besides family, close friends, and partners of a Taurus) gets to see this side of them. Consider yourself loved if you get this opportunity.

A Taurus tends to have really hyper and outgoing friends. Other signs might not understand why, but we like to live daringly through these people. More importantly, we like them to bring us out of our shell.
