Things to bring back in books:

  • Chapter titles
  • Actually having a synopsis on the back instead of reviews no one will read

Some excellent additions from the notes:

  • Maps
  • Indexes of characters and places with pronunciations
  • Numbering books in a series on the spine
  • Tables of contents

Fuck it. Make cis people uncomfortable. Dress however you want. grow out your hair if you want to. Cut it, really badly, in your best friend’s dorm. Use those pronouns. Be unashamedly yourself to the best of your ability. Make them question everything they ever knew about gender without ever giving a shit about their opinions. Put yourself first.

Native artwork is honestly fucking gorgeous and it infuriates me that when you think of or try to look up “Native American art”, you get fetishistic, colonizer bullshit.

I’m so fucking sick of it. We’re always defined by how other people see us.

That and native art is so underrated too. It’s hard to get attention to my artwork, it’s hard to get attention to any native artist, art competition, gallery.. anything. We all spend hours, days, even weeks honing our skills and creating art for ourselves and others. People only want the creations we slave over when it’s cheap or free. They don’t recognize each detail and it’s meaning or the intricacies we took time to sketch out or bead in or sew or anything.

I go to festivals in my area where lots of indigenous people (namely First Nations or Salish) are. A lot of their tents have the stereotypical fetishing native art incorporated into a product somehow and it makes me a little forlorn, but there isn’t much I can do but be sad. Now that’s a part of a bigger issue I can’t get into now, but you see the problem.

Art from all nations needs to be recognized.

I bought art from a creator named Harmony Hoss. She was so friendly and she sells her art at Pike’s Place in Seattle as a Tlingit woman. Tell me her formline isn’t absolutely gorgeous. But she goes so unrecognized because people are so unimpressed with her hard work.

Anyways, support native artists.

For anyone who wants to support Harmony Hoss, she has a website!

Unfortunately, it’s incredibly difficult finding real Native artists online just because of how many people blatantly lie or use misdirection to make people think that they’re Native. If anyone has recommendations for Native artists, feel free to share them!

Here are some native artists and businesses!

Sa-Cinn - https://sa-cinn.com/ - Northwest Coastal-based native business that showcases different artists who make a variety of items such as prints, blankets, jewelry, and drums.

Dancing Blackbird - https://dancingblackbird.com/ - Native hat-band artist based in Arizona. (https://etsy.me/2ES5FDi)

punk academia should be a thing

I love this concept so much! Maybe something along those lines...?

  • no bagpack but a big, bulky jacket (thrifted) that holds pens, book and notebook/a stack of loose paper, folded in the middle
  • optional: academia themed pins and patches
  • coffee or energy drinks, dark circles under tired eyes
  • nightly activities: taking walks to look at the city/university after dark, meeting up at someone’s messy room to lay around, eat snacks and read
  • laughter and discussions in museums, interrupting the stifling silence
  • always ready to help others - share notes, homework, ideas etc
  • secondhand paperbacks or books from the local library
  • endless supply of fun art facts or dirty jokes from Shakespeare plays
  • politics! Punk is always a political statement.

The idea that knowledge should be open for anyone; the rejection of bureaucratic, snobbistic, elitist intellectualism - instead: kindness and thirst for knowledge. And leather jackets.

Transgender pastors Alexya Salvador, Cindy Bourgeois, and Allyson Robinson lead mass in a church in Matanzas, Cuba, on May 5, 2017, during a three-day conference on transgender theology, ahead of the tenth anniversary of Cuba celebrating the global day against homophobia. The mass, held by the Matanzas branch of the Metropolitan Community Church, was the first time a trans pastor had ever celebrated holy communion in Cuba. [link]

When your dad tries to guilt trip you into visiting him: “well I guess I’ll just spend the weekend all by myself...”

You say “glad to know we’re on the same page.” Slowly, he will have to adapt to just outright telling you what he thinks instead of playing mind games.

When your friend tries to hint that they’re mad at you without saying anything: “Oh, I’m fine, clearly you don’t need to worry about me,”

You say: “I’m glad you’re doing well. Call me if you want to talk, though!” Soon enough, they will accept that they can’t be passive aggressive with you.

When your boyfriend says: “All your friends are great, I really love *insert male friend* especially.”

You say: “I’m so glad you like my friends! I should invite them back soon.” He needs to understand that if he has a problem with your friends, he needs to just voice his concerns instead of being sarcastic and accusatory.

As someone who has lived through several toxic relationships and has an abusive father, I think one of the most important manipulation tools a toxic person has is excessive subtext and hidden meanings in their conversation. It hides all of the actual fighting from the eyes of onlookers while still hurting you, which is scary and makes you feel like you’re making it all up. Don’t put up with this bs. Make them stop hiding.

Make. Them. Say. What. They. Mean.

i am a single father and my daughter is going through that demon summoning phase but shes really successful with it and all of these hellish monsters keep showing up in our small rural village, however i am very cute and the monsters all want to kiss me

I honestly just want to cry.

ADAM (yes, the extremely transphobic, lesbophobic film) has been nominated for a GLAAD award - if you don’t know, those are one of the biggest LGBTQ media awards to exist.

I don’t know what to do at this point. I’ve tried so hard to raise awareness. And I keep saying, I’m not even trying to ban people from watching it but just letting people know what it’s really about (a transphobic cishet person pretending to be trans to rape lesbians!!) because the film promotes itself as LGBTQ representation and I don’t think it’s okay to basically trick vulnerable LGBTQ teens into watching it when it’s not representation at all.

But even if it doesn’t win, being nominated in the first place gives their claims of LGBTQ representation more credibility. This is going to hurt people.

I’m just so tired. I’ve tried my best and nothing has worked. The people who have actual platforms just keep refusing to listen to us anyway. No one cares.

Okay, instead of crying, I got angry and wrote an open letter to GLAAD explaining in detail why this film is harmful and why it doesn’t count as representation, asking them to rescind the nomination.

If you would like to read that and/or add your signature in support then you can use this Google form to do so.

not every trans person WANTS to bind/tuck/get surgery trans people do not have to fit ANY requirements to exist and be trans. there are no rules. you can dress and act and be however you want. you are GOOD just the way you are.
