Friendly reminder that:

  • Qunari are empowering Saarebas with lyrium so that they can become stronger, open temporary Rifts, slow time down, and use mysterious spells, all through unknown means.
  • Tevinter is terribly weakened, corrupted, and will not last in the war against the Qunari.
  • Fen’Harel, now incredibly powerful, is planning to eliminate the Qun (good thing), but also to tear down the Veil (not that good, depending on the consequences). He will probably help the Tevinter slaves in rebelling against their masters too.
  • Titans are awakening. They are enormous beings living deep underground, whose blood has been consumed for millennia by mages and Templars alike, shaping the world as it is today. They also seem able to influence events above ground and they are very angry with the world or at least with the elves. They will probably re-establish their contact/link with the dwarves.
  • Something is happening in Weisshaupt, the Wardens have gone silent, and a new Blight is most likely coming.
  • The Evanuris are still locked away, but it’s obvious they will get free soon. They are a bunch of homicidal assholes who will not think twice about conquering Thedas again. They might be also tainted by the Blight, if the theories “Evanuris locked away with the Blight in the Black City” are true.
  • If Kieran was born, Flemeth/Mythal took the Old God’s soul from him, planning to do something with it. We still don’t know what it is, but it’s unlikely she will stay “dead”. She still has to have her revenge, her “reckoning which will shake the very heavens”.
  • Either Morrigan or the Inquisitor drank from the Well of Sorrows and the consequences of that act are still unclear, but whatever they are, they are going to suck or at least be mildly disturbing.
  • Mysterious Dalish elves live in the Tirashan. They are violent, cruel, and worship the Forgotten Ones.
  • Strange people from the Volca Sea are returning after a long absence, claiming a terrible calamity struck their lands.
  • We still don’t know what lies beyond the Amaranthine Ocean, but whatever it is, it makes people go insane and suicidal.

Basically Thedas right now:

It's also kind of fun to note the similarities in the approval rating for the Urn of Sacred Ashes questline as well as The Temple of Mythal one. In both of them you do something that's surrounding a very large religion (one human/andrastian the other primarily elven/dalish). Yet with both they hold the same thing: the andrastian party members get pissy if you go against andraste. Whereas those who aren't extremely religious just kind of shrug if you go against the option that does grant them a raise in approval.
In Urn, if you agree to help Kolgrim, you get a disapproval from: Sten, Oghren, Alistair, Leliana and Wynne. The latter two will attack you at the Urn as well if certain steps aren't taken. Now out of those who approve of you helpin Kolgrim, the only one who disapproves of you actually saying you won't defile the urn is Shale (I'm not including Morrigan because her's is easily avoided so lmfao). I always thought it was such an interesting thing to note that those who weren't very religious were the one's who kind of shrug when you stick to protecting the urn.
Similarly, in the Temple, those who disapprove of you doing the puzzles are: Cassandra, Iron Bull (a theme, right? even if he isn't andrastian, he has shown distaste previously for the elven pantheon if i recall right), Blackwall, Vivienne and Sera. Yet, once again, if you skip them, there's only about two people who disapprove: dorian and solas. Both I think are obvious as to why. What I'm getting at here is the fact that a lot of the characters that seem to disapprove you doing anything non-andrastian are usually andrastian themselves. Who have also previously in the games done and said things that are pretty shady towards any other religious view, ie non-andrastians.

In game, Cassandra at one point (during the start) says to a Dalish Inq "isn't their room among your gods for one more?". It's a quote that's always kind of irked me in a way since we never got the opportunity to say back something along the lines of "Can you not accept my own?". Even in the DLC Jaws of Hakkon we're presented with an elf who incorporated the Maker and Andraste into the Dalish pantheon. It's like the game keeps pushing the idea that elves need to be considerate and acknowledge the Chant of Light and Andrastians but there's not once any signal that humans or those who follow the Chant doing the same courtesy for elves.
It's an ongoing theme that - the more Sigriss is around - the more irritated she gets with it. Now she's not someone who cares about religion per say. She herself isn't actually religious (doesn't follow the pantheon nor the forgotten ones as her clan does) but that doesn't stop her from noting the clear divide that happens. She views it as humans attempting to make elves bend and adhere to what they believe is right; rather than accepting that the elves have a different view and set of beliefs. All in all this topic is a great way to make Sig actually annoyed with you (which otherwise is hard to do).

Hands rubbed against cheeks — dragging what bit of water had clung to rush against the skin in a soothing splash. An Exalted Council had been called for the Inquisition; to see where its fate might lie. Would the Inquisitor relinquish power to Orlais? Ferelden? Disband? Who knew but time itself. No outcome meant anything good for her; the Qunari plot was still driving itself full force. And it seemed that there was some plan that was to be implemented by Solas to draw the two situations into one brutal collision.

She’d separated herself from the Inquisition after its overall victory. Wishing to wander about before the true battle began. Before they were called to vanish and begin what needed to be done to make sure the Dread Wolf would succeed. Feet drew themselves beneath her - legs folding like a pretzel - by the river bank. A sigh escaping her frame and a hand scratching through loose, tangled fiery curls. No love was held in her for the many misfortunes that would befall those if they were to succeed. She did not like the path she’d chosen to walk so long ago but it was the one she would stick with; the only path she felt truly right. Eyes drew to her side where her friend had joined her, a smile on her lips, though it was one seeming to be bittersweet. " Are you excited, Fel? Once more we must listen to the bickering of shemlen! I wonder what complaints they hold this time. "

“Just making sure you were paying attention.”

He only rarely allowed himself to lower his guard when out and about the roads, for too often there were any and all manner of wild beasts or desperate cutthroats ready to take advantage of the occasional unwary traveler, and, deathless or not, he’d no intentions of being done in by something so tame as a wolf’s fangs or brigand’s knife if he could help it.

Of course, traveling with the forces of the Inquisition as they went about fixing all of this blighted land’s troubles and then some all but guaranteed an attack either wouldn’t come or, if it did, would be swiftly quashed with an unnecessary (yet almost amusing) amount of force in reply. This left him without a need to glance over his shoulder or sleep with an open eye out for trouble, and thus left him prey to another, more common curse than the Darksign- that of pure, mundane, and often-times stale boredom.

Boredom meant dwelling, dwelling meant reminiscing, and as it were, distracting himself with the elf was marginally the lesser of two evils.

Naturally, that entailed casually provoking her into trading barbs.

“With that smile, whatever you just said couldn’t have been very flattering.” Troublesome as most horses or animals in general were whenever Brom came within a certain distance, the muscular beast serving as his mount was too well trained to bother with throwing him onto the ground and actually minded him as he sidled up next to her on the road. “Are all the dalish elves as foul-mouthed as you, or does waving around a staff and setting things on fire make you the exception in more ways than one?”

It already proved irritating enough -- surrounded by the very creatures that made her quite uneasy. Horses with the muscular flicks of their heads and necks; witty beasts that determined life or death with each stomp of their hooves. Could be viewed as merely an irrational fear (or as she saw it: mistrust alone), but Sigriss had not had to deal with such beasts until now. Always opting to travel by foot and take life in for what it was.

Her own mount remaining to be one of those spikey fellows: dracolisks. Sigriss did not spare the other speaking a glance. Instead remaining focused on the slow and steady pace that they kept -- turned forward. Fingers lax against the reins with thumbs tapping idly against her saddle. There was the softest, amused hums, in response to his words. " Oh? You'd craved flattery from me, then? " A brow arched briefly at the notion. She knew this conclusion was inaccurate but it was still amusing to her. " Alright, I can grant you something flattering, then. I can refer to you as da'din'sil'melana? It is rather complimentary. "

Nearer now, Sigriss at last glanced from the corner of her eyes to the other. Arch of her brow lingering - not wiped away - through their conversing. He must find himself so bored if he were choosing to poke at her. Humans. They were so predictable in their nature. Wandering blindly forward with what they feel would be best for them; no care for others or what they might be provoking in the process. Such shems she found perished rather quickly when left alone. Doubtful it'd be the same for this individual though. Someone who signed up willingly or not with the Inquisition - they would fight to keep his flame lit so long as he proved useful to their cause.

" Oh I am quite the exception. " Sigriss grinned lopsidedly at Brom, setting him with a wink. Before chuckling at her own remarks. " Would you rather I instead spit the word Shem at you every other minute? Rather I recount how shitty humans are? I could. Easily enough. Your kind grant me enough ammunition I need not worry of running dry from that fount of knowledge. " Sigriss let out a sing-song hum in thought before continuing. " No, seems you'd rather attempt to pester me. Did you wish to call me knife-ear, too? A tongue like that would do better wagging in other places rather than aloud. "

You know, now that I think on it, the Tirashan elves are one of the few if not the only Dalish clan we know of who doesn't move around. We know that canonically a lot of the Dalish move around constantly; whether this is due to just wishing to continue their nomadic ways or because of outside influences forcing their hand(s) (humans being douchenozzles, the keeper doing something stupid like in TME, etc etc). But the Tirashan elves seem to stick within the forest; maybe even linger in the exact same location without ever picking up and moving. I mean what need would they have to move from their current spot? It proves advantageous to their way of life. As well as keeps them extremely safe from the humans and other enemies they might consider from locating them.
Which, by the way, is another reason I really view the Tirashan itself as bit of a treacherous forest. Well, treacherous is a bit far. Maybe dense and hard to navigate. Possibly containing creatures we've yet to meet in game who boast similarities to real life creatures that are poisonous/toxic and very deadly. As not many people are mentioned or written in lore as going through the Tirashan. It's almost this place that remains untouched by all those except for the Tirashan elves.

Gradually, the elf had come to anticipate the silence of the soldier. One of those who’d joined up with the Inquisition - totting about nothing but his Maker and the desire to do what clearly was right. Perhaps he’d previous knowledge of battle, who knew? Sigriss had never taken time to learn of the other. Their few and between conversations one that ended with his cheeks turning an indescribable shade of red that only deepened when her boisterous laugh spilled forth. She’d always found some kind of satisfaction at getting the boy so flustered, so wound up that he had to scamper about on his boots.

It appeared his time to shine had come -- the joke one that caught her slightly off guard. Hands momentarily forgetting their action of sharpening one of her personal daggers to regard the man. A shimmer of confusion in her eyes slowly transitioning to one of beaming amusement.  Are those two to go hand in hand? Do you plan to have one before or after you find yourself between my legs?

Both the Tirashan Elves and those who reside in Nevarra are a bit of an enigma. Especially when compared to the actions of their brethren in the south. However, this is about where their likeness kind of stops. Sure both are exceptionally violent and attack without provocation - this is the only correlation. There's not much mention within the Nevarran elves for perhaps worshipping the Forgotten Ones rather than the Pantheon (as the Tirashan are directly linked to the Forgotten Ones).
I think a lot of what makes the Tirashan elves so volatile in nature is not only their worship of the Forgotten Ones (as I do view this as a prominent reason for their actions and behavior), but the location that they currently hold and their neighbors. There's mention that nobles from Orlais (I believe the most active player of this is Gaspard de Ghislain) enjoy hunting elves down like a sort of sport. Turning 'fox hunt' to 'elf hunt'. If the Tirashan elves are aware of this, that would certainly add to their violent nature when it comes to humans especially entering the dense forest.
I also imagine there is probably a lot of dangerous creatures that reside within the forest itself; nature itself can be pretty brutal and terrifying. You'd have to get a certain aggression to yourself to stick out as a predator rather than a prey when it comes to this. Because we do notice that the southern elves (mainly those in Ferelden and Orlais) are suffering greatly at the hands of humans but don't seem anywhere NEAR as vicious as the Tirashan elves.

yEA THE NEVARRAN ONES JUS ATTACK WILLY NILLY

It makes me wonder if the two clans aren't somehow connected with one another! Because I mean they're both written as just going 'time 2 murder'. Attacking at random and also scaring the ever loving shit out of humans when they do it. I know there are accounts of the Tirashan Elves horrifying humans who wandered into the woods while hunting other elves, and I think there were a few for the Nevarran ones as well? Like what is it that makes these two locations breed such aggressive elves?

Due to their isolated location, I feel the Tirashan elves would pride themselves on being multi-skilled. The little evidence we have of them interacting with humans has been with malicious, even murderous, intent. Thus, the Tirashan elves would require all members of the clan to have some talent with stealth as well as climbing and hand-to-hand combat. The Tirashan itself lies against a mountain range; this would provide for a very treacherous and dense terrain. One that the elves born there would become gifted at navigating while strangers would struggle immensely.
Just as their rogues/hunters, I believe the Tirashan elves would have their warriors and mages be brought up with the same talents. It'd be imperative for them all to be light on their feet, quick, and war trained. Ready to take on anything whether they were disarmed or not. They also would probably have a very 'ride or die' sort of mind set. To die in battle would be a greater achievement than a simple death brought on by natural causes.

The Dalish warrior in the Brecillian forest is gonna shoot you until they find out you're a Warden

I completely forgot about that part, so I thank you for reminding me! But I mean I can't really blame them. How many pleasant interactions have they had with humans crossing their paths in the Brecilian Forest? Probably not many if any at all. And what the Dalish - if they hold no interactions with them - have to go off of for humans is the tales that their clan tells. Which probably don't shed humans in that good of light (rightfully so in a lot of aspects).

Even historically speaking, we always paint our enemy as just that: our enemy. Celene does this to Gaspard and vice versa. Corypheus does this to the Inquisitor and Inquisition and vice versa. Loghain to the Warden, so on and so forth. The major difference in some of those scenarios is that elves lost a war and are now pretty much spat on nonstop. Live in the alienage? Welcome to constant poverty, no chance at ever leaving unless you try to find the Dalish, ab.usive nobles and more. Live life as a dalish? Welcome to needing to keep on the move, stay on your guard and be taught over and over again how humans took everything from you.

Ok, but, why is it so hard to believe/understand why elves hate humans so much and why most in canon and elven OCs have bad shit to say about humans? This is a group who have been systematically oppressed for years at the hands of humans. Who have been slaughtered during a time of war and continue to be in the name of a really sick sport by humans. Who are forced to either live in make-shift ghettos or wander the land not as nomads do for some part but instead often shifting when, that's right, humans move closer to their spot.
I know Lavellan is given the option, when asked by Solas if he were wrong about the Dalish, to say that they are more preoccupied with seeing who hates humans more than actually finding the old way. And yes of course this holds true as we can also see similar in some of the elves written in The Masked Empire. I merely get so disillusioned when I witness people erasing the very horrific and continuously shameful things humans do and continue to do to elves in the name of "yeah but chances should be given."
Even if this is a true statement, you cannot feign ignorance as to why a person is choosing to write their canon/oc elf as wary around a human. Or, hell, even hateful towards humans. The shit that's been done to them is pretty daunting.

Maybe it’s for both of us at once? We both have considerably better fashion sense. Which is rather sad, by the way, since I don’t even wear shoes. Here, I’ll wave and see if his gets more pissy or happy. That’ll tell us!
