Alright, I’m going to try to be brief and rapid-fire my favorite things about each of them!
As cool as it is to see a strong warrior woman, what attracts me to Astrid the most is her incredible sympathy and empathy to others. Once she gets past her tough, competitive, and sometimes even suspicious exterior, she has the sweetest, softest, gentlest heart. It’s gorgeous.
Hiccup: Sense of Morality
I’ll admit, I don’t always agree with Hiccup’s ethical perspective. However, I love the sense in which Hiccup fights for what he believes is right. What makes him such an incredible and heroic character, what makes him so inspiring, is the way in which he steps forward to make his ideal a reality.
I am a complete and utter nerd. And I fell in love with Fishlegs when I went to HTTYD in theatres in 2010, and he started rattling off dragon statistics. “THIS KID!” I thought immediately. “HE IS MY PEOPLE!” I love the fact that there is a character in the series who is completely, utterly, unashamedly nerdy, down to his dragon stats and dragon cards.
I’m struggling to find the word I’m looking for. What I love about Ruffnut is she is unabashed to be herself, her very unique self. I love the fact we can see her character blossom into someone wholly interested in fires and explosions, and who intentionally makes sure her hair smells like stinky fish. The fact she does that, and is proud of it, and does not question any of who she is, is something I really adore about her character.
The things that come out of Tuffnut’s mouth are wholly special. Everything he says is so random, yet always so… him. The hysterical absurdity, the convoluted logic, the anachronisms, the bizarre poeticism… it’s a great combination and makes every line of dialogue from Tuff a treat.
Snotlout’s protests give me life. Sometimes his complaining is ludicrous, and he has no reason to bring it up. Other times, he makes many valid points. In all instances, Snotlout speaks with a characteristic, sarcastic, loudly protesting bite that is wholly enjoyable. Snotlout complaining and interacting with another character always creates memorable banter.
