Elizabeth was exhausted from working a little too nonstop. So when she sat down to relax she couldn’t reach her glass of wine. Turning to the person sitting near her in the clubhouse she smiled sheepishly. “Can you please pass me that?”

Image

“Sure, I can do that...wouldn’t want you to get bogged down with all that heavy lifting,” she teased. “Any more where that came from?” she asked, passing the glass.

“Wait,” Neslyn reached her hand out placing it over their cup. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I saw someone slip something in your drink.” Her brows furrowed with a look of worry on her face as she glanced over at the other. “You haven’t drunk any of it, have you? They must have left already,” she questioned looking around.

image

“That’s awfully chivalrous of you,” she replied, pushing the drink aside. “Can I get your next round?”

Regina sat on the steps out to the roof terrace smoking a blunt lazily, a smirk on her face that implied she’d just told herself some kind of dirty joke. When she heard the door behind her open she turned, giving the person who arrived a cheeky grin. “Good morning… I see the assassins failed again. I’ve got to start going with a new company.”

“I might know a few,” she said with a roll of her eyes. Bringing a cigarette to her lips she asked, “have a light?”

“you gonna stand there or are you going to join me? C’mon? I want some fun tonight and I’m sure you’ll be able to help me.”

“You sure about that, sweetcakes? My idea of fun might not be what you had in mind,” she said with a wink.

“So, what do you think?” It had taken Emma a bit of courage to take the plunge and dye her previously brunette locks blonde. Now that she’d done it (and thought that it looked decent), she was proudly debuting her new ‘do. “You know, they do say that blondes have more fun. Maybe it’ll help me get laid.”

“Can’t say it’s helped me in that department, but hey...whatever makes your boat float. Looks good on ya, though.”

“You had me at milkshake, hot lips.” Gavin was in the process of rearranging his silverware when he caught Sydney’s movement and then felt her body push into his side. “Oof,” he exhaled jokingly. “Second thought maybe you should lay off the milkshakes. Don’t worry though, I’ll have yours for you.” His arm was stretched out a little, his finger rubbing under the tiny pup’s chin. “That’s because he’s much more dignified than most. He eats like a boss and dresses like a boss because the tiny king is a boss.” Gavin enjoyed her laughter and ordered a couple milkshakes when the waitress swung by. “If you want I could feed and dress you too. Then you can be just as hot a number as the great Gator. It’s stiff competition but you’re pretty, you might have a chance of pulling it off.” Gavin had to wonder if Sydney was from New York because of how fast and how much she talked in one go. She didn’t even leave room for him to respond most of the time. So he took a small chunk of her hair and tugged on the blonde locks a little. “Oh hey there, chuckles. I already ordered the shakes so we’re good there. The fact that you even made the mistake of putting up shy in regards to me is—ridiculous. Well aside from those fits of laughter you don’t smile all that much and I’m not sure what competitions your personality has been in so it’s hard to say with that winning stuff.” He teased. “I have to say that it’s the way you stole something of mine and turned it around on me like it was yours. That’s a gift not many people possess. But really, why can’t it be all of you?” Gavin had no idea what to make of her just yet but he liked the good mood she was in today. “So now, back to me, where this originated…”
image
If nothing else, she enjoyed the banter with Gavin. His personality was fresh and he definitely kept her on her toes. “I’m ten pounds lighter than my ideal weight according to American health standards, I’ll have you know,” she said with a chuckle, jabbing him with a fake punch on the arm. She paused, sure that he would come back with another smart aleck remark. Meanwhile, the waitress returned with the milkshakes and wanted to collect their orders. She asked for a steak cooked well done and extra fries, then waited while Gavin ordered for himself and Gator, picking up the conversation when he was finished with the waitress. “I love that you treat him well, I can’t even hate right now.” She couldn’t help but laugh at his response. “I mean, I won’t say no, I could use some help, especially when it comes to feeding me. I wouldn't mind a home cooked meal every now and then,” she said, being truthful as she eyeballed Gator in his cute little outfit.

“Instead of walking my dog you can be my pseudo Homecooked Meals on Delivery go to guy. When do you think you could fit me in?” She teased, sipping on her shake as she waited for him to respond, though her comment was all in jest; she truly had no expectations of him doing anything of that nature. “And remind what I stole again? I seem to have had a sudden lapse of memory. Go ahead, remind me. I’ll wait,” she said with a chuckle, shaking her head from side to side a little she waited for him to explain. At the rest of her personality break down she gave an emphatic nod. “Fair enough, I’ll take it, though having fits of laughter yet rarely smiling is a bit of an oxymoron, isn’t it? Do I not smile enough for your liking, though?” She asked, pausing for a beat. “I’ll have to remember to work on doing that more if that’s the case.” She bounced around in her seat happily when their food finally arrived, then prepped her fries with salt and pepper with a little ketchup on the side for dipping as she thought about her response, though there wasn’t a lot to think about. “I like everything about you for the most part; besides being funny, you’re laid back and easy going so far. Makes me feel like I can relax and be myself around you,” she said, cutting her steak. “You just seem like the type of guy who would make a blanket  fort with me and drown in a bottle of scotch while watching Netflix and scarfing down a pizza.”

She looked across the room towards the clock checking the time, “I think they open in about twenty minutes. Which gives you plenty of time to eat and wake yourself up more. You’re more than welcome to use my shower and borrow some clothes, I don’t mind.”
Image
“You’ve been absolutely life saver. I don’t know how I’m going to pay you back,” she said, pausing to take a bite. “Wait, I know exactly how. Let me take you out to dinner tonight. Dinner and drinks. Do you have anything else going on?”

“He sort of is.” Elizabeth said with a sigh. “He works in a different department but we’re all government officials and I feel like he continuously finds reasons to ‘need to speak with the governor on matter concerning his statements to the public and or press’ because then he gets to talk to me.” She rolled her eyes. “And they say women are crazy.”
Image
“Yeah, well the lines between admiration, desperation, and harassment are super thin. Just don’t let things get out of hand. If it were me I’d be documenting each of the occurrences, no matter how frivolous; in case you need an out at some point,” she said with a smile. “Anyway, I’m glad I could help. I’m Sydney, Sydney Stark. Don’t think I caught your name.”

caught up {owen & sydney}

Owen couldn’t pull his eyes off the police officer, as much as he wanted to look away he simply couldn’t. His insides were yelling to throw her out of the pub. This woman was the one that had seemed to make it her personal mission that he saw the full extent of punishment when it came to his arrest and incarceration for the accusation of murdering his wife. She had been so convincing with the evidence she had collected and put up against him, that Owen himself started to believe her that he was guilty somehow. That he somehow murdered his own wife in cold blood. The death and loss wasn’t Officer Stark’s fault but the way his life got destroyed from it all, she definitely held a strong role in that. His anger had long left him though and Owen didn’t know what to do with her right in front of him and he didn’t know how to take the words she was saying to him. He’d made peace with his impending death and here was the woman that would’ve happily been his executioner. “How was I supposed to know that? And are you saying that’s my fault?” There was a civil case in process that his lawyer and sister pushed for against the state and he had no idea what it meant for Ms Stark in front of him, if she’d be included at all. In all actuality, Owen wanted it all behind him. Six years were gone. That was a lot of time to make up for.
He bit the inside of his cheek. “How am I doing well? You know, anything is better than sitting there waiting to die. Even death. So yeah, I guess I’m doing better than I was on death row.” His throat started to ache, she was bringing up a lot of memories and emotions. Owen had wondered how it would all go down if they ever came face to face again and anything short of her on her knees begging for forgiveness, didn’t measure up. Even he didn’t understand the calm he maintained or how he never raised his voice or got remotely angry with her. Maybe it was just difficult to feel much of anything anymore. Seeing her swipe at the tear though, he sighed and shook his head. “You’re paying for food you’re not going to eat?” He pushed the twenty back to her. “You don’t have to go. Eat your food, have some drinks, whatever it was you came here for. Just maybe do it at a table or booth over there.” He rubbed his forehead and then his hand down his beard before leaning forward slightly. “Bothering me doesn’t begin to cover it, Stark.”
“I can’t sit here and pretend that I understand what you went through, Mr. Owens, but I’m truly sorry for everything that happened,” she said, pausing to gathering her thoughts. Her heart was racing as he stood there staring at her through piercing blue eyes. Clasping her hands in front of her, she let out a troubled sigh. Deep inside she knew there was literally nothing she could say that was going to appease this man or even herself for everything that happened for that matter, yet she was resolved that she was going to settle this once and for all. For her peace of mind if nothing else. “Yes...yes I do have to go, Mr. Owens. But not before I say one last thing,” she said, finishing off the remaining liquid in her glass and placing it down hard on the counter, leveling her gaze and looking wrongly convicted man dead in the eyes, jaw clenched. “New evidence showed you’re not the person I believed you to be...I was wrong about you. I was wrong about the case. I was wrong about everything. I hope to God you don’t prove me wrong again. Tell your barmaid lunch is on me today,” she said, then got up, gathered her things and then turned to leave.

When Liz saw the blonde walk in the door she was wondering what was going on there hadn’t been any other meetings scheduled. When she spoke up a sigh of relief washed over Elizabeth. Bless this beautiful woman for overhearing the conversation and coming to her rescue. “There you are!” She said with a smile and a small laugh. “I was just talking to Brian here about this awesome new movie he said was playing. I know we’re doing dinner but I think we should see it.” Elizabeth spoke as she linked arms with the woman. “It was nice talking to you.” She said to the man leading the girl out of the room. “Thank you so much.” She said when they were safely out of earshot.
Image
“Sounds like a plan, babe...what are we seeing?” She chuckled lightly, casting her gaze on the male, letting it linger a bit as the woman went on to wrap up the conversation with ease. Syd couldn’t help but laugh as they sauntered down the hall, arm linked together. “Oh, that was nothing. Glad to help. I’m Sydney by the way. Who was the guy? Not a co-worker, I hope? How awful to have to deal with that every day.” She let go of the woman’s arm as soon as they rounded the corner and were out of view.

“Oh sure.” Logan said with a small shrug as she offered him a cup of coffee. “That sounds like just what I need right now.”
Image
“Coming right up,” she said with a smile. “I’m Syd by the way. Don’t think I’ve seen you around before.” She looked up at him, handing him the cup. “So what’s got you in need of caffeine?”

“Good morning sleepy head, glad to see you’re finally awake.” She mused looking in the others direction. Grabbing a pot of coffee and pouring them a cup before sliding it across the counter towards them. “Hungry? I have a breakfast casserole in the oven, and I also made some fresh squeezed orange juice.”

“Oh my goodness..you shouldn’t have, you’re too sweet. I shouldn’t be thinking you for letting me stay over,” she said. “Do you think the apartment manager office is open yet? I’d hate to have to call a locksmith, but I really need to get in there to shower and change for work.

Elizabeth had been all set to leave work after a long day. Slipping on her coat and grabbing her purse she was nearly out the door when she was stopped by someone who worked in the building. The same person who constantly tried to talk to her, and it was clear to Elizabeth painstakingly was trying to win her affections. However being that it had been a long day and she really didn’t want to be there Elizabeth politely nodded trying to no avail to get away. “Yeah-” She said “Mhmm” She looked around for something anything that could save her.

Syd had been wandering around the maze of offices for at last ten minutes when she finally heard a voice in the near distance. She was guessing she’d probably missed her appointment by now, but maybe the person could give her directions out of this maze. Walking up to the open office door, she paused upon hearing the conversation and it sounded as if the woman there was being hassled so Syd didn’t hesitate in speaking up. “Hi, there you are....thought I’d missed you. Ready for our date?” She asked, shifting her weight on her hips, giving the other a big smile.
