unpopular opinion: mutual culture = very toxic, and the whole shabam of thinking that the only gateway to interact with someone you know on tumblr is only if your mutuals w them

#okay listen#I’ve been reading fics on tumblr again#and when i decide to lurk through those blogs after reading the fic#im just#in awe with the dni’s byf etc#not in a good way#like yes it’s a priority to make yourself comfortable online#I get that part#but IN REAL LIFE#y’all don’t walk up to people you first meet and tell them#‘don’t talk to me unless i follow you back’ or ‘don’t talk to me if you don’t like ___ or ___’#LIKE#how are you gna make GENUINE friendships that way#and yeah you might be scared to interact with someone you don’t know or you might not want to talk to them bc you don’t have things incommon#BUT THIS IS LIFE LMAOAOOOAOA#and its better to make your judgement on someone once you get to know them and it shouldn’t even be when you don’t know a person exists yet😭#what im seeing Rn is so robot like and fake it’s acc sad 😭😭#like how are these people making friends irl 😭😭#and then when they get petty when you unfollow them#or when they won’t consider you as a friend anymore because you broke the mutual…#PLEASE LMFAO#instead of the mindset: ‘my following indicates the only people i shall consider interacting with and if i don’t follow them or if I’m not—#—their moot then don’t talk to me’ INSTEAD#the mindset should be switched to ‘I follow who i want because of their posts entertain me… I love their content… etc#NAW BECAUSE ITS ALSO RLLY NOT THAT SERIOUS IF YOU DONT FOLLOW SOMEONE#(okay I’m going on a weird tangent rn don’t mind me)#I MEAN HELLLOOOOO LEMME JUST FOLLOW WHO I WANT#it’s not mandatory for friends to follow each other on social media’s#but then again those are the social cues now#T.T and as much as i complain about mutual culture i rlly cant do anything about it but just watch from the sidelines
