This is a “just in case” post. In short:
- Tumblr is a corporation and I am an angry, skilled, aggressive programmer who pisses off capitalists and other kinds of dominants left and right (often on purpose).
- Because of Tumblr’s position, they are financially incentivized to protect rapists (very much like FetLife, BTW).
- Tumblr has previously censored my blog in order to silence rape survivors and protect rapists. Please read my short post: “Tumblr censors you to protect rapists” for one example of this. Thankfully, that got enough Twitter press for Tumblr to silently revert their decision and restore my blog posts.
- Like all current corporate-controlled social networks, Tumblr (just like Twitter, Facebook, and FetLife) uses a “Report Abuse” function that is systemically designed to empower cyberbullies, not their targets. (For a deeper explanation of this and my proposed alternative, see this post.)
- The above means that, for me, Tumblr is not generally a safe place to write about rolequeerness. But I will still write about rolequeerness here, because this is where the discussion is happening.
- However, I will also be using the web-space I do have full control over for many of my own posts about this from here on out and have already copied most of my #rolequeer posts over there.
TL;DR: Tumblr is in a dominant position and I am going to do what I can to insulate myself from that threat by ensuring my work is not dependent on Tumblr to stay available to myself and other people. I want you to know this ahead of time in case I am banned or you think my posts may be getting censored, (which has happened before, see above).
