The state of being awake and aware of one’s surroundings.

The awareness or perception of something.

The fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.

Religious people and theists like to bring up the topic of consciousness in their attacks against Science that they believe to bring merit to their religion or theism. Since Science hasn’t fully explained everything about consciousness, they see an opportunity to trot out their favorite logical fallacy argument: God of Gaps.
