Merry New Year.

One of the things I did in 2021 was write like 50 minutes of material for the fictional band Coestts. You may remember “The Sounds of March.” Here is another song, titled “The Crawl.” It is very different in style (I may even be able to learn this one on guitar). I made it over the course of like three days, and I was gonna keep it secret until the final album is released, but screw it, I want to end 2021 with something special. And this song is special to me.

It is another lonely song, though it finds a kind of comfort in that. Rise with me, it has been a long several years adrift at sea, now we must learn to crawl again.

My bones atrophied, thoughts slow
I shunned them all with my limp swan song

I still remember a time I dreamed him in my arms, city meant nothing
Of course, illusion flourished with absence, and my heart, as it grew fonder, made movement hurt

The smoke at night tints the starlight shimmering hues,
That same smoke which stained our daytime with choking diseases and blues.
My heart pains to crawl.
