Mark Beard, Three Handstanding Gymnasts, 1956.

I went to the Abercrombie & Fitch tower of doom in Ginza once, and all six dimly-lit floors had murals all over them that I’m pretty sure were by Mark Beard. All Aryan male athletes without shirts on, in wholesome track-and-field style scenes. It was super homoerotic. The whole place felt like a club with no people in it and the perfume in the air was so thick we stank like it for the next three hours. All the staff were models and the only thing they said was “What’s going on?” and “Don’t take photos please,” and the male models at the door didn’t have shirts on and the only other customers were middle-aged ladies.
