Freedom of the 18+
The anti-social behavior we witness today in time of crisis is to be expected in a society where freedom is hailed as a value but suppressed throughout childhood.
How are we supposed to understand the concept of freedom further than “I do what I want, you do what you want” when we spend our first 18y+ in subjugation to authority? When freedom finally is granted, should we really be surprised to see it understood in simplistic, dichotomous terms? When you spent years waiting to finally “do what you want”, should it be so unexpected that simple restrictions to your freedom to do whatever you want, for the sake of everyone else’s freedom (to simply live, in today’s case), are sometimes received as outrageous infringement and overreach?
Wouldn’t it be time to rethink the way we deal with children?
